Anchorman: The Legend Continues (or Anchorman 2, for those of you with short attention spans) dropped a new teaser onto the internet this morning (as if new teases for Skyfall and The Master weren’t enough for one day). A bit of a rush job, there’s no new footage in the Anchorman: The Legend Continues teaser, but it does round up Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner, and feature series of new one liners: “This time, I’m on top,” “it’s gonna get stanky,” and “in this movie, we play witches!” Check out the ridiculous clip below.

The teaser comes courtesy of Funny or Die!, naturally, features about a minute of mugging from the original cast, with Steve Carell stealing the quick show with his blank-faced awkwardness. Pretty funny stuff for a film that hasn’t even begun filming yet.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues won’t begin filming until later this year, and won’t hit theaters until 2013, but hopefully the teaser will tide us all over before the real footage starts slipping out. For now, dig into the teaser poster for the film, and start counting down the days until 2013.

As we previously reported, the film concerns “when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79, All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with,” according to director Adam McKay.

Ever since the March announcement that Anchorman 2 was finally happening, fans have been waiting for any kind of preview of the long-awaited sequel. This week, we get two—teasers for the film have been attached to prints of The Dictator, and today, we have a teaser poster heralding the film, it’s new official title, and a loose release date. Check it out after the jump.

First off, the film is now no longer just Anchorman 2—you can call it Anchorman: The Legend Continues now. Further, while the film had been rumored for a 2014 release, the poster is pretty boldly proclaiming a 2013 release date.

As for the barest sketch of a plot, all we know is what we reported in April, when we noted that Anchorman and Anchorman: The Legend Continues writer-director Adam McKay noted the film would be set “when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79, All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

Also, it is known that Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner would be returning to reprise their roles, with no indication, however, if Christina Applegate would be returning for another round of madness.

Keep checking back for updates, including the Anchorman: The Legend Continues teaser trailer as soon as it’s available.

It didn’t take long for Judd Apatow to segue into Dramedy, did it? The director, who launched Steve Carell and Seth Rogen into stardom with The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, seems to want to add a little more pathos into the mix, and maybe that’s why there are no laugh out loud moments in the trailer for his upcoming film This is 40. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Oh, there are some giggles, and it looks like they brought in Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy to play, but this is very much a film about getting older. It’s a semi-sequel to Knocked Up in that Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann seem to be playing the same characters, and have the same children (Mann and Apatow’s daughters), but it’s hard to say if Jason Segal is playing the same character. Or – for that matter – if Seth Rogen or Katherine Heigl will show up (for the record, neither are listed on the IMDb, but that proves nothing).

This is a small glimpse of the film, and the way Apatow shoots, there’s no guarantee anything in the trailer will be in the film as is. This is 40 also features Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, Chris O’Dowd and Lena Dunham, so there’s likely a lot that’s not in the trailer. This looks promising, but there’s no killer moment. Because it’s a winter release, my guess is that they’re going to go for the Oscars again.

Would you like to see Judd Apatow win an Oscar?

With Amy Poehler handling the writing and directing (and acting!) chores this week, she crafts a sensational episode of Parks and Recreation, where her Leslie Knope finally gets into the debate ring with Bobby Newport. And that means the welcome return of Paul Rudd. The show is running full steam ahead as it prepares for the finale of season four, which has been excellent throughout.

Episode Title: “The Debate”

Leslie goes toe-to-toe with Bobby Newport in their big televised debate. Ann, Tom and Chris work in the media spin room, while Ron goes the extra mile to save a party for Leslie’s donors.

The Good:

April: Leads things off because of her line about the “$100 lap dances”.

Andy: Maybe, kind-of stole the episode with his acting out of classic films like Roadhouse and Babe. And watching he and April act like rich snobs was also a lot of fun.

Leslie: Poehler did superb work as writer, director, and yes, actress. Her reactions to porn star Brandi Maxxx during the debate were great.

Speaking of Brandi Maxxx: She’s dressed just like Leslie. Nice! And she’d do porn with everyone on stage.

Joan Callamezzo: Nice to see Joan working the debate. She’s newly single, if you hadn’t heard. Had to laugh at her comment that Twitter is “…something that happens now”.

Chris & Ann: They were kind of back together, as the Spin Team. It was sweet to see Chris reach out to Ann, and a touch sad when she rejects him. But he is far too good-looking to be alone for too long.

Speaking of Ann: Nice to see the cutie pie suddenly the ‘it’ girl.

Ron: He climbed a telephone pole, sang a few lines from the Glen Campbell classic, “Wichita Lineman”. And it was damn good.

Paul Rudd: His Bobby Newport character is pretty terrific. He just looks funny; his mannerisms, that is. His, ”Holy sh*t, Leslie, that was awesome”, line at the end of Leslie’s closing comments in the debate was also ‘awesome’.

Montage: The answers from the candidates from what had to be some silly questions from Perd and Joan were all over the place and very funny.

The Bad (but not that bad):

Ann/Tom: Awful together. Awful broken up with even the slightest chance they might get back together. Let us pray Ann does not get back with Tom.

Tom: The sad baby routine over Ann is annoying. There are episodes when Tom owns it, but with this Ann stuff his character is kind of a d-bag.

Overall:

There is a quick shot near the end of “The Debate” of Jerry watching Leslie’s closing comments while surrounded by nuns. Hello!! How does one even continue?

Poehler gets a standing ovation for her work as writer-director-performer on “The Debate”, which might be one of the top three best episodes of the season. Everything just flowed perfectly. Looking back, there were no wasted moments, just lots of laughs. A sweet moment here and there and Leslie’s home run of a debate closer, but mostly just superb work from an ensemble working off an outstanding script.

There was a throwaway line from Jennifer to Ben about Chris. Wonder if that sets up something in the final episodes? It was hard to watch Chris get the Ann rejection, but now he can put her and Millicent in the rear-view mirror, go run some stairs to burn off the emotion, and prepare for new love.

Paul Rudd delivered the funny once again as loveable Bobby Newport, while Andy, April, and Ron each had episode highlights. Who wouldn’t want to watch Andy act out like 15 more of his favorite movies?

There’s been Leslie bashing from time to time around here, but she was solid as a rock in the episode.

“The Debate” was aces start to finish.

Rating: 9.5/10

With the news that Anchorman was finally getting the sequel its creators had tried to make (for years now), you’d figure they’d have their ideas and plans on lockdown. There was talk of testing it as a stage show, and all sorts of interesting rumors about the directions it could head, but writer/director Adam McKay has talked about their progress so far. He tells Empire “We’ve done about two per cent! Half a per cent? We’ve got five pages of story notes and chunks of story. We’re holing up writing for the next three months.”‘ He does hint at their direction…

And that would be towards the emergence of CNN. McKay said this:

“It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79, All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

We do know that Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner are back for more, though it’s unknown if Christina Applegate will return in any capacity. That was being talked about last we heard, though there was nothing definitive.

What makes this project so exciting is that when a film like Star Trek gets a sequel, it’s because it made enough money to generate a follow up, but – ultimately – you could tell that J.J. Abrams was more interested in making a film like Super 8 than going back to that well. Here everyone involved has spoken about wanting to do this project, which is better than people coming back because of contractual obligation. Or – in the case of a sequel like Men in Black III – where you get the sense people are returning to the well because they need a career boost.

Which is why it’s so much fun to hear about. At worst, Anchorman 2 will be funny. But it won’t and can’t be desperate or passionless.

What’s your favorite Anchorman quote?

In his latest, David Wain attempts to make a whole comedy about the dwindling lives of a middle-class couple living in a hippie-infested commune called Elysium. Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston play the leading couple, and share the screen with a talented supporting cast of comedic actors like Joe Lo Truglio (the naked one), Lauren Ambrose, Jordan Peele, and the awesome Alan Alda. Check out our full review below…

It’ll be wrong not to mention Martha Marcy May Marlene, the dark film that caused a whirlwind at Sundance last year with its topic of commune living; that said, Wanderlust, unlike Martha Marcy May Marlene, doesn’t challenge its audience with questions about existentialism as, after all, it is a comedy, complete with running gags and not-so-meaningful conversations.

The Players:

Director: David Wain

Writer: David Wain, Ken Marino

Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, Malin Akerman, Justin Theroux,

Cinematography: Michael Bonvillain

The Plot:

Linda (Jennifer Aniston) and George (Paul Rudd) are a young married couple living in Manhattan. After their lives come crumbling down, George decides to take his wife to his brother Rick’s (Ken Marino) house in Atlanta. During their road-trip, Linda and George pull into a bed and breakfast that turns out to be a commune run by a peculiar, mature hippie named Kathy (Karri Kenney) and a mysterious guru named Seth (Justin Theroux) . After spending a wild night at the commune, Linda and George resume their journey to Atlanta, but when their plan B also falls through, the two return to the commune and attempt to live as free spirits.

The Good:

An Uncomfortable, Yet Hilarious Pep Talk: The best part in the entire movie, hands down, is an R-rated pep talk George gives to himself in the bathroom mirror. It’s ridiculous, uncomfortable, and hilarious. So hilarious. The movie would be worth watching all over again if just for that moment. This is one of Rudd’s best moments.

Supporting Cast: Elysium is filled with colorful personalities played by talented comedic actors. Kathryn Hahn shines as Karen, an annoyed feminist who gives George a very hard time when he accidentally kills a mosquito. Then there’s Ken Marino, who co-wrote the film with Wain. He plays George’s inappropriate brother, and scores big laughs. There’s also the paunchy, wine-making nudist Rick played by Joe Lo Truglio, and the pretentious, Christ-like commune leader Seth played by Jason Theroux. All of these different actors, and more, lend themselves to funny jokes, and each shines, even if just for a brief moment.

Paul and Jen: Aside from the hilarious mirror scene, Rudd plays it straight. His character is the sane one in a movie filled with insane personalities. Rudd still has the charm that makes him a successful leading man. Aniston is also charming and likeable. One of her best moments is when she’s on hallucinogenics and believes she can fly. Still, she stays in her comfort zone, and that’s okay, because that’s what we expect from her. She’s not one to take many risks.

The Bad:

Running Gags: The bad thing about the running gags in Wanderlust is that they weren’t funny to begin with. There’s nothing funny about calling a pint-size apartment ‘a studio’ or ‘a micro-loft’. Call it what you want! We can see that it’s tiny. Then there’s the ‘no privacy’ thing, which was funny at times, but mostly just made for uncomfortable and obvious situations.

Pointless Plot: Although the story centers around an ordinary couple struggling to make ends meet, the film scarcely shows them trying to get back on their feet. Instead, George quits the job his brother offers him almost immediately, and the two escape to a free spirit environment with no doors and no privacy. George and Linda’s financial crisis is a segue to the plot of the story, which begins about 25 minutes into the movie when they arrive at Elysium. At the commune, George and Linda struggle to fit in, but in the end, their experiences make them appreciate a different way of living, and each other. But of course, no Hollywood comedy is complete without a happy ending. Everything works out for George and Linda, even when they weren’t even trying to get back on their feet.

Overall:

There are moments that will make you laugh-out-loud, but overall, Wanderlust is one big, dumb joke.

Rating: 5.5/10

Wanderlust opens February 24, 2012.

If you could assemble a cast that includes Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Christopher Meloni, and Joe Lo Truglio, you’d have an A-list comedy on your hands these days, and that may be what you get if they make Wet Hot American Summer 2, the long-proposed sequel to 2000′s cult comedy. Co-writer and star of the original Michael Showalter said it’s definitely happening and everyone is on board.

Showalter said so on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live last night, and said so with great authority. This is after the recent live table reading of the original film’s script that took place at San Francisco’s Sketchfest. The cast for Wet Hot American Summer also included Janeane Garofolo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Ian Black, A.D. Miles, Ken Marino, Molly Shannon, Judah Friedlander and Marguerite Moreau, many of whom were at the recent reading.

When Showalter offers no hesitations, it suggests that this has been in the works for a while, and that they have some form of financing. Director David Wain has a new film coming out shortly called Wanderlust (with Rudd), and if that does good business, surely WHAS 2 will be next on deck. The first film was barely released by the now-defunct USA Pictures, and found an audience on home video. It’s hilarious, and well worth checking out.

You smell like a burger, I don’t like you any more?

The campaign for City Council is heating up on ”Parks and Recreation“, and who better than Paul Rudd to guest star for a handful of episodes as Leslie’s dopey opponent. It was the audio/visual portion of Leslie’s campaign with the team showing off their TV production skills. Not a weak story or subplot to be found anywhere near the “Campaign Ad” episode – just great writing and acing start to finish. Rudd’s appearance only adds to the overall excellence of the show.

Check below for the complete review…

The Players:

Director: Dean Holland

Writers: Alan Yang

Cast: Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Jim O’Heir, Retta, Aubrey Plaza, Rob Lowe, and Chris Pratt

Episode: “Campaign Ad”

Faced with a tough new opponent, Leslie and Ben disagree on the content of her first campaign TV ad. Ron is very uncomfortable when Chris tries to befriend him…

The Good:

Bobby Newport: Paul Rudd is perfectly cast as the extremely entitled, mostly goofy Booby Newport, who is running against Leslie for City Council. He likes dogs and his dad is friends with John Cougar Mellencamp, so you know he’s cool! Actually, he is a sweetheart of a buffoon who is clueless about local politics or really what he is doing in a race for City Council. Rudd nailed it. He had some fantastic scenes – especially when he begs Leslie to drop out of the race. It’s nice to know he’ll be around for a few more episodes.

Leslie/Ben: How to defeat Bobby Newport, whose family is well-known around Pawnee? Go negative, baby! Ben is ready to drop the hammer, but Leslie would rather just be nice and rattle off an exhaustive list of things she is ‘pro.’ It’s a long-ass list. This was a great story line, made even better with the involvement of Jerry, Tom and Ann.

Andy/April: Andy hits his head and then we get some fine physical comedy as he and April visit just about every doctor in Pawnee. This goofy subplot supplied a lot of funny material, highlighting nicely how out-of-touch April and Andy are to the world.

Ron/Chris: Ron Swanson spending time with Chris Traeger is always a subplot I am down with. Ron playing bad cop felt just so – right. Their exchanges were funny, and it was surprise when we find out that Chris is interested in Ron replacing Ben as the assistant city manager. Now there’s a thought.

The Voice: The back and forth between Tom, Ben, and Jerry over who has the better voice for the negative campaign spot was awesome.

Hair Game: I need a favorite line of the night, and Tom’s ‘his hair game is on point’ is my winner. Andy’s “Too handsome for glasses” is a close second.

The Bad (but not that bad):

Bobby Newport: Not a lot was bad for such a solid episode. As much as I loved Rudd’s goofy character, I did think he might have been too ‘dumb’. The writer’s could have gone with a ruthless political type to run against Leslie, but going with the entitled and ridiculously enthusiastic character of Bobby Newport was a win for sure. Still, it did seem almost like an extreme caricature, but that’s just nit-picking by me at this point.

Overall:

Home run episode in my book. It’s my first 10 rating. I usually leave the better episodes at 9 because 10 just feels like there was not a single thing wrong. But “Campaign Ad” felt like 10 all the way.

I think “Parks” is one of the top 3 best comedies on TV. “Modern Family” is NOT in my top 3, that’s for sure. This season has been steamrolling so far, continuing to develop a superb cast of characters and deliver really great comedy. They keep topping themselves, and that cannot be easy considering how many great episodes we’ve seen.

The moment when Ron can’t get the office door clicker to work quick enough to keep Chris out is exactly why I love the show so much. The look on his face…

The Knope campaign rolls on, and having Paul Rudd around for a few more episodes is only going to keep things interesting and funny. I was wary of the show being focused so much on the campaign, but so far it has been a big time success.

Rating: 10/10

“Parks and Recreation” airs on NBC at 8:30 pm (ET/PT) on Thursday nights.

What did you think of last night’s episode?

In the trailer for Wanderlust, Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston play a couple dealing with very real world problems. He gets laid off and the duo end up at a commune. As directed by David Wain (who also did Role Models and cult favorite Wet Hot American Summer), the film looks to offers laughs and lots of small roles from Wain’s old comedy troupe The State. Check out the trailer…

In trailer you can spot State-vets Ken Marino, Kerri Kinney, and Joe Lo Truglio, along with Alan Alda, Justin Theroux and Malin Akerman. Most of these people seem to be a part of the same universe, and often show up in each other’s movies, so that’s not really a surprise – though it’s interesting to see that Akerman has landed in comedy after Watchmen did little for her (or anyone’s) career.

The film comes out February 24, 2012, which never means much when it comes to comedy – they can play at any point in the year – and if it delivers as much as the trailer, it should be a nice small comedy success for the group. Wain’s career as a director didn’t really take off until Role Models proved he could work in the mainstream, so it was a long road after 2001′s Wet Hot American Summer, which is one of the funniest films of the last ten years, though was barely released in theaters.

Yesterday, we reported that Megan Fox was set to bring her box office poison unique charm to the set of Judd Apatow’s new film, starring as a yet to be detailed character. Today, it seems, someone with actual comedic talent and chops a little more familiar to the comedy world is now in negotiations to join the cast—Albert Brooks.

According to /Film, the movie, which centers around Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s unhappily married couple from Knocked Up, is set for release on June 1, 2012. Brooks, like Fox, would be playing an as yet undetermined role—but, considering this is an Apatow film, I’m guessing that he’ll play a mentor-like father to Rudd, who occasionally smokes pot but is still fairly grounded, and gives his wild, permanently-adolescent son the advice he needs to finally mature and be the man his wife deserves. I can’t swear to it, but since that seems to be the general Apatow model for films, I’m guessing it’s not far off, either. Either that or everyone will just give up and point the camera at Seth Rogan and just let him grumble and giggle for two hours straight (which, yeah, I’d probably pay to watch).

What do you think of Albert Brooks in a Judd Apatow film?

Do you remember the bromantic comedy I Love You, Man from a couple years ago? The film starred Paul Rudd and Jason Segel and it features a lot of too close for comfort moments between the heterosexual buddies. The film wasn’t a monster hit at the box office but it had some fans, enough to warrant a sequel…or a sort of sequel. Rudd and Segel have joined forces with veteran musicians Rush for I Love You, Man: The After Show. Check it out…

In the video, Rudd and Segel reprise their roles as Peter and Sydney from I Love You Man and if you remember correctly, the duo has an unhealthy obsession with the band. As a matter of fact, their little obsession is one of the main things that drew them to one another.

Here we see them getting a little too comfortable in Rush’s dressing room after a concert. Sydney got the pair some fake passes, but Peter is none the wiser. They’re eventually confronted by the band, who promptly ask them to leave. But before it’s all said and done, Peter get’s a special gift from one of the members.

This sketch doesn’t touch the surface of hilarity that’s present in I Love You Man. If you haven’t seen the movie, a lot of the second hand language will come off as mumbo jumbo to you. Watch the film first to get the full impact.

What do you think of the video? Was it funny or should it die?

There’s not other way of saying it, with My Idiot Brother mainstream Hollywood has officially hit the streets of Sundance. Despite the fact that I will see Paul Rudd (even when I’m supposed to be looking for the best unknown ____ who is soon to be amazing) in anything and enjoy the entire supporting cast, one can’t help but wonder what this film is doing at an Independent film festival — everything about it seems as mainstream as possible…

Sundance Synopsis:

Despite looking for the good in every situation and the best in every person, Ned always seems to find himself holding the short end of the stick—being conned into selling pot to a uniformed cop, being dumped by his girlfriend, and worse yet, losing custody of his beloved dog, Willie Nelson. When he turns to family, he is passed from sister to sister while he gets back on his feet. Ned’s best intentions produce hilariously disastrous results, bringing the family to the cusp of chaos and ultimately the brink of clarity.

Review:

Well, it’s fun! I think my biggest problem with this film is that it was in no way a Sundance film…

Did it have new faces? Nope, it only had recognizable faces — even the extras were A-listers (really! Just look… reallllly hard.)

Did it push any boundaries? Do Steve Coogan’s cock and balls constitute as a boundary? We’ve seen Jason Segel’s, Ken Jeoung’s, Ashton Kutcher’s were referred to a lot by Natalie Portman in No Strings Attached and Ewan McGregor’s has made appearances loads of times in comedies and the like — I think we need more than just apenis, or some incredible penis feat to really get a laugh and/pr push any boundaries.

Did it have a small budget? For a mainstream film maybe, but not in the “I sold my last shoe to buy the tape to get the final shot” — not so much (hough I don’t know if that’s a realistic Sundance category anymore). Once a studio buys it (which was already done by the Weinsteins before any of us had time to form an opinion) so much money will be pushed into it, it won’t matter if they made the whole thing for a tissue, it will still be a multi-million dollar film.

Did it have a new director? Nope! But not a well-established one, one that is definitely trying to make his mark — that’s something.

The Shots/Camera Work: We’ve got no interesting colors, odd angles, wide ranges, extreme close-ups or anything to really differentiate this film from any other pretty and cleanly shot rom-com in theaters.

Did it embody the spirit of Independent film (whatever that means)? It’s as mainstream as all the other comedies in theaters, it was just took the Sundance route to get some buzz and possibly because John Cooper wanted Paul Rudd there (I have no idea if that’s true, but it might be!)

That all being said. It’s funny for a mainstream comedy, has a few very clever moments, is predictable but a fun ride none-the-less. Plus, check out how hairless Coogan is! Did he just get everything he could waxed before the shoot?

Rating: 5.5/10
