This will come as music to some fans ears this morning as news has surfaced that the long developing adaptation of the film, Old Boy is no more. For months it’s been stated that super producer and director Steven Spielberg had the project in his sights along with actor Will Smith, but according Latino Review it doesn’t look like the film is happening, so lets start the parade.
Hollywood and the Judicial system are like ying and yang. For years directors and producers have had to deal with lawyers and legal tape to obtain the right to adapt established properties. No matter how big you are in the business it will find a way to get to you, just ask Steven Spielberg. According to /Film, his adaptation of Chan-wook Park’s Oldboyhas run into some legal woes.
Our obsession with death, particularly of the gruesome and horrifying variety, is perhaps nowhere more prevalent than on the silver screen. Watching our favorite stars impaled or decapitated is an oddly acceptable family past-time. As the Romans watched slaves fight to the death and the French decapitated their bourgeoisie in the public squares, so too do we partake in the perverse human curiosity for the obscene.
