Passion: Movie Review

Passion
There's always a worry that when an older director returns behind the camera that the magic is gone. That they are no longer the craftsman they used to be, and that the world has gotten away from them. It is then with a great sigh of relief we report that Brian De Palma still has it, and Passion is a slick and nasty little thriller.

Just over a year ago, we reported to you on the first international trailer for Brian De Palma’s new film, Passion.  Given De Palma’s auteur status, and that fact that he hasn’t released an enjoyable film in 11 years (nor a great one in more than twice that), film fans watched the trailer in hopes that the old De Palma vision—cool, kinked, obsessive, voyeuristic, and drenched...

Dead Man Down: Movie Review

Dead Man Down certainly is a cool little revenge thriller with a love story wrapped around it, but the intensity that the film slams on you within the first fifteen minutes flutters away. What's left is a decent love story with little sprinkles of action that feels a little too long for its run time.

If somebody harmed someone we loved, we'd go on the war path until the perpetrators got what they deserved. Okay so we can't actually take the law into our hands, but it's nice to see it unfold on the big screen. The difference between normal tales of revenge and Dead Man Down is the sweet love story in the middle of all the bloodshed. Colin Farrell is our main...

It's never fun being on the wrong side of the law, that is unless you happen to be a member of the most powerful gang in town. But then there's the moral dilemma that people don't see that's swimming through the heads of some criminals in thrillers, which is one of the many topics that's discussed in Niels Arden Oplev's new movie Dead Man Down. While Victor...

'Prometheus 2': Noomi Rapace Has Been In Script Talks With Ridley Scott

PROM-005 - Ridley Scott directs Noomi Rapace on the set of PROMETHEUS.
Prometheus—it was one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2012, seeing as how it was a Ridley Scott-directed prequel to his sci-fi horror classic, Alien.  In the end, it became one of the more controversial films of the year in terms of its reception, as the film—for the most part—fell far short of expectations and ended on a jarring and ambiguous...

There's nothing wrong with getting old - it's getting lazy that's the problem. But age and absence often leads some filmmakers to lose their passion or craftsmanship. So we're curious how Brian De Palma's Passion plays. His last big theatrical release was 2006's The Black Dahlia (and few saw his 2007 film Redacted),...

One can walk a very fine line between having a movie be a prequel or it's own original piece. At the same time, if you're watching a movie you don't want to be constantly guessing over whether or not it has any connection to the filmmaker's previous flicks. With Ridley Scott's Prometheus, a lot of fans were under the impression that not only is he going back to his...

Even The Posters For 'Prometheus' Are Spoiler-Heavy Now

Until very recently, part of the fun of Prometheus’ ad campaign was just how ambiguous the marketing was for Ridley Scott’s semi-prequel to his 1979 classic, Alien.  Was it a true prequel?  Would it connect directly to the beginnings of Alien?  And so on.  And then, unfortunately, came the spoilers.  In April, we received a three-minute trailer of pure...

Charlize Theron and Idris Elba in 'Prometheus'
For a while there you could say that Ridley Scott's Prometheus was playing cute. It was embracing one of J.J. That game plan has been modified for marketing recently, and now we're getting a clearer sense of what the...
