…As the first openly gay superhero! Woohoo! Nice one DC Comics! It’s about damn time we had some openly gay superheros as opposed to all those closeted ones.

DC Comics writer Greg Rucka told Comic Book Resources she was “a lesbian socialite by night and a crime-fighter by later in the night”. Her appearance coincides with a battle in Gotham City to take over Batman’s cowl after he was seemingly killed off in November.

“We’ve been waiting to unlock her – it’s long overdue,” Rucka said. “Yes, she’s a lesbian. She’s also a redhead. It is an element of her character. It is not her character. If people are going to have problems with it, that’s their issue. That’s certainly not mine,” he added.

It looks like Nolan has decided to cash in on some of his success with Warner Brothers in order to pursue some of his own work.

According to THR Nolan’s next film will not be Batman 3, but will be a project which was written by Nolan himself. The film is titled Inception and is described as a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” The plan is to begin shooting this Summer release the film in Summer 2010. No further details have been revealed at this time, but don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye on it.

heathoscartop Oscar Backlash for Dark Knight Snub?

Last week, comic book fans everywhere rejoiced when the late Heath Ledger was nominated for his performance as the maniacal Joker in the summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight. Unfortunately, as the list of nominees continued to rolled off the tongue of the presenters, all those smiles turned to frowns as TDK was ignored in every other major category, including Best Picture and Director. Many fans stated that they would protest watching this years telecast if the film was overlooked, but since Ledger was nominated is that enough to stave off their anger? Will the ratings suffer?

darkknight08 12 15 Editorial: For Your Consideration... Is Dark Knight Really Oscar Worthy?

Last week the 2009 Golden Globe nominations were announced and Oscar season was officially kicked off. A Golden Globe nomination is widely accepted as the precursor to who and what will receive Academy Award recognition. For the first time since I can remember, I actually agree with the majority of the nominees on this years list. It seems as if the Hollywood Foreign Press Association wanted to think outside the box, by acknowledging some unconventional characters, including a sociopath who likes to dress up as a clown.

fycheath EDITORIAL: A Dark Night at the Oscars

It’s that time again. The major studios are scrambling to send out promotional materials in support of their films and actors for 2009 Oscar contention. It’s no secret that Warner Brothers’ The Dark Knight was one of the best reviewed films of the year. It also holds the spot for the number 2 biggest grossing domestic film of all time behind Titanic. Knight had rich characters, great direction, and stunning cinematography, all the things you could hope for in a film! These are all elements that add up to an obvious Oscar contender right?  Unfortunately, we don’t know. TDK has one flaw that could count against it in terms of it earning itself a spot on the voting ballots, its a comic book movie (gasp)!

More on the Oscars and The Dark Knight after the jump.
