Nicole Kidman Cast In Park Chan-Wook’s Upcoming Thriller, ‘Stoker’

Well, here’s an interesting cinematic match up–Park Chan-Wook, the director behind such dark and epic mind twisters as Oldboy and Thirst, has cast Nicole Kidman in his upcoming thriller, Stoker.

According to The Inquisitr, Stoker “tells the story of an eccentric teen, India, whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family following the death of the girl’s father.”

And no, no, despite whatever it is that Kidman has done to her face of late, she will not be playing the uncle, or the teenage girl.

When people mysteriously start to go missing in her hometown at the same time, India begins to believe that her uncle may be the cause.

According to Indiewire, Kidman is set to play the role of the little girl’s mother and will be joined by a heavy hitting array of talent including Matthew Goode, Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till, and Mia Wasikowska.

That said, Kidman totally has the Botox blank stare thing down now, which is actually pretty spooky, and could add a nice bit of creepy, unblinking and unflinching atmosphere to Park Chan-Wook’s film. I mean, it really couldn’t hurt, could it?

The Oscar winning actress plays one half of a dysfunctional married couple and turns in one of the best performances of her career. Joined by a slew of talented supporting actors, Rabbit Hole is a brutally honest drama about family, loss, and eventual forgiveness. Check out our review…

The Plot:

Rabbit Hole centers on a husband and wife and how they each deal with the unsuspected death of their young son. The wife Becca (Kidman) withdraws from the world and concentrates on domestic life, while her husband Howie (Eckhart) wants to heal, move on, and possibly have another child. Becca not only ignores his advances for change but she also forms an unconventional friendship with the teenager (Jason) who’s responsible for her son’s death without Howie’s knowledge.

The Good:

The Acting: I know Nicole Kidman is being noted for her performance in this film but in all honesty everyone deserves some praise here. Eckhart brings his A-game, and the talented Dianne Wiest, and the underrated Tammy Blanchard are no different. Also, up and comer Miles Teller will blow you away as Jason. He holds his own opposite a stoic Kidman and a confrontational Eckhart.
The Story: The premise of Rabbit Hole is something that’s all too real for a lot of people. The actions and emotions that Becca and Howie go through in the film are true to life. The fact that a housewife would withdraw from society, or that a husband might be tempted to cheat because of the lack of intimacy in his marriage makes sense. Nothing is too over the top or “Hollywood.” The story sticks to the bare bones of these people’s lives.
Music: Like the story, the music in Rabbit Hole is simple and straight to the point. It’s a great companion to the film and actually emphasizes the performances without taking away from them.

The Bad:

Who Are You Again?: Without spoiling too much for you, there’s a female character who’s mentioned in the film multiple times as a friend of Becca’s. Even though you hear about her a lot you never see her until the end of the movie, and even then it’s a wide shot so you can’t make out her face. Apparently her and Becca were good friends but they stopped talking after the death of Becca’s son. Everyone keeps saying that Becca needs to call her, but it’s hard to understand why. Maybe the character had a bigger part in the play because in the film you’re just wondering, “who are you and why should I care?”

Overall:

Rabbit Hole is a very simple but heart-wrenching story that doesn’t exactly have the term “holiday movie” written all over it. It’s a character study about loss and forgiveness that will take you to a pretty dark place before it releases you into the light. This film has great performances and a wonderful story. Check it out.

Rating: 9/10

Rabbit Hole hits theaters in limited release on December 17.

Lionsgate just sent over a few new clips from their upcoming release Rabbit Hole starring Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman and Academy Award Nominee Aaron Eckhart in a extremely well-made albeit quite emotional film that is sure to leave you with a few drenched tissues. The film has already been getting a lot of positive feedback even though it won’t be hitting theaters for a couple of weeks. The cast and crew have been nominated for four Indie Spirit Awards including John Cameron Mitchell for Best Director, David Lindsay-Abaire for Best Screenplay, Nicole Kidman for Best Female Lead and Aaron Eckhart for Best Male Lead.

Sounds like you’ve got a winner on your hands if you can handle the topic!

Now most of these clips we’ve seen moments of in the trailer, but it’s always nice to see Dianne Wiest at her best.

Nicole Kidman Gets Honored at Santa Barbara Film Festival

The next time Nicole Kidman appears on the big screen, she’ll be bringing the tears in the drama Rabbit Hole (have you seen the trailer?) The movie might put her in the pool with this year’s Oscar contenders, but until that’s official, Kidman is getting another statue. She will be honored with the Cinema Vanguard Award at the 2011 Santa Barbara Film Festival on February 5, 2011.

The festival’s executive producer said:

“Honoring Nicole Kidman is so exciting for us here at SBIFF. He work is immensely diverse and with this year’s heart-wrenching and brilliant performance in ‘Rabbit Hole’ – a project she helped develop as well – it is exactly who we should be celebrating with the 2011 Cinema Vanguard Award.”

In the past the award has gone to notable actors like Vera Farmiga, Ryan Gosling, Peter Sarsgaard, Kristin Scott Thomas, Stanley Tucci and Christopher Waltz.

The award is meant for those who have taken risks and made unique contributions to film. I’d say Kidman matches their critieria. Her career spans over 20 years and features roles that some actresses only dream of taking on. Make sure you catch her in Rabbit Hole, opposite Aaron Eckhart, on December 17, 2010, it’s destined to hit you where it hurts.

Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It Trailer

The first trailer for Adam Sandler and director Dennis Dugan’s latest film, Just Go With It has been released. We heard a little about the movie last summer while the duo was out promoting Grown Ups, but at the time very little was known about its premise. Today Yahoo Movies premiered the first trailer for the film that features Sandler surrounded by a group of attractive blonds. Take a look…

A plastic surgeon, romancing a much younger schoolteacher, enlists his loyal assistant to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie. When more lies backfire, the assistant’s kids become involved, and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives. The film stars Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Brooklyn Decker, and Nicole Kidman.

We find it strange that Kidman is in this movie yet they don’t show her in this trailer. Do they think she’s still box office kryptonite or what? If so, it’s not like Aniston has been dropping jewels as of late either. The one thing that bothers us about this story is that it features a pretty woman who wears glasses and a ponytail and expects those items to make her ugly. It’s still Jennifer Aniston! Have we learned nothing from She’s All That?

Just Go With It hits theaters on February 11, 2011 just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Rabbit Hole Trailer – Get Out the Tissues!

The trailer for Rabbit Hole has just hit the web with a big ol’ bucket of tears for ya. It’s a good thing this is based off an award winning play with popular and/or Academy Award winning actors like Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart otherwise no one would be willing to get this depressed. One can only hope that what we’re seeing in this trailer is merely the surface of the film and that it’s secretly uplifting and hopefully at times even entertaining and not just people crying over their lost loved ones. There’s only so much we can take.

Official Synopsis:

Becca and Howie Corbett (Kidman and Eckhart) are returning to their everyday existence in the wake of a shocking, sudden loss. Just eight months ago, they were a happy suburban family with everything they wanted. Now, they are caught in a maze of memory, longing, guilt, recrimination, sarcasm and tightly controlled rage from which they cannot escape. While Becca finds pain in the familiar, Howie finds comfort.

The shifts come in abrupt, unforeseen moments. Becca hesitantly opens up to her opinionated, loving mother (Dianne Wiest) and secretly reaches out to the teenager involved in the accident that changed everything (Miles Teller); while Howie lashes out and imagines solace with another woman (Sandra Oh). Yet, as off track as they are, the couple keeps trying to find their way back to a life that still holds the potential for beauty, laughter and happiness. Nicolas Cage Drops Out of Joel Schumacher’s Trespass

Nicolas Cage must be learning from his past mistakes because according to Deadline he’s bailed on a project with director Joel Schumacher. The film is called Trespass and the Oscar winning actor has abruptly dropped out and he’s not coming back. Neither Schumacher or Cage have had the best box office track record as of late and maybe just maybe, one of them realized that two wrongs don’t make a right.

Mike Fleming’s sources claim that Cage dropped out of Trespass last week and went on a vacation in the Bahamas. There’s no word on whether or not the deal was “pay or play” but he was set as one-half of a leading couple, with his counterpart being Nicole Kidman. They were set to play “a married couple taken hostage by thieves looking for an easy payday. Cage was going to play the husband, but within the last two weeks he switched and instead decided to play the leader of the kidnappers.”

Word on the street is that Liev Schreiber had been offered the husband role in lieu of Cage’s absence. Cage was going to score $7 million for his part in the film, which we’re surprised he bailed on considering his current box office clout. Will Trespass continue on? The fate of the film is up in the air but let’s look at this as a blessing in disguise.

Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews, Brooklyn Decker Join Just Go With It

It’s time for an Oscar winner, an eclectic musician, and a swimsuit model to join Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It. According to Collider, Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews, and Brooklyn Decker have all signed on to join the Dennis Decker helmed project. Excited yet?

They haven’t released specific character descriptions on who’ll play what but Kidman’s role is drawing comparisons to Tom Cruise‘s in Tropic Thunder. Does that mean she’ll be an overweight, foul-mouth control freak? Who knows. On the other hand, it seems that Sandler will once again be joined by his pal (of two films — Don’t Mess With the Zohan and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry), Dave Matthews, while Brooklyn Decker (Mrs. Andy Roddick) will be making her feature debut as Sandler’s object of desire.

Don’t get confused, even though the plot is being kept under wraps, it’s been said that Aniston will play Sandler’s ‘fake’ love interest. The project was first called Holiday in Hawaii, so I’ll bet that Sandler will take his ‘pretend wife’ to the island and fool everyone there (maybe even himself). Oh, the predictability of the romantic comedy, will it ever return to its former glory?

Robert Pattinson to Seduce Nicole Kidman

Twilight star Robert Pattinson is set to take on Oscar winner Nicole Kidman in an erotic new role (eeewww). The young actor has signed on to co-star in the film, Bel Ami according to Screen Daily, where the duo will team up for a sexually charged story that will feature Pattinson as an ambitious young man who sleeps his way to the top.

Finally, we have another film that highlights a man as a whore! This will be a period piece, that’s based on the novel of the same name by author Guy De Maupassant, which was published in the late 1800′s. Robert Pattinson wouldn’t have been the first actor to come to mind for a role like this, but regardless of our thoughts he’s got it.

The story of Bel Ami centers on a young, up and coming journalist who meets a powerful woman named Mme Forestier, who helps him with his work. Through her, he meets several influential people and begins to establish some connections of his own, all while sleeping with various women.

Bel Ami will be directed by both Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod from a screenplay written by Rachel Bennette. Nicole Kidman is a definite sell for this film, but Pattinson leaves some doubt. Not to knock his talent, because the only thing we’ve notably seen him in is Harry Potter and Twilight. Perhaps if given a proper script with a strong premise he can work wonders in a movie.

I’m convinced only critically acclaimed actors could audition for this film.

The film is based on the Broadway play of the same name, and centers on a middle aged director trying to complete his latest movie. Unfortunately, the filmmaking process becomes a tedious task when his personal relationship with various women begins to interfere with his work. The film will debut this fall just in time for awards season, isn’t that convenient? Does anyone in this cast really need another nomination? Come on, now.

Nine hits theaters nationwide on November 25th.

Over at Latino Review, they’ve posted six new gorgeous production stills from the movie. Everyone looks sharp, on point, and dressed to the nines!

Nine has a cast filled with Academy and Grammy Award winners including Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, and Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson. Punch Replaces Kidman in Woody Allen Film

A while back we told you about Woody Allen’s upcoming untitled project, which features a variety of talented actors including Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts, Freida Pinto and Anthony Hopkins. As we reported earlier Nicole Kidman was also set to co-star in the film, but unfortunately had to drop out. According to THR the Oscar winning blond has been officially replaced by a lesser known British actress by the name of Lucy Punch.

The name Lucy Punch may not sound familiar, but trust me you’ve seen her in stuff. The actress is best known for her appearances in Hot Fuzz and Ella Enchanted as Anne Hathaway’s evil sister. She also starred in the CBS series The Class, which came as fast as it went. Speaking of fast arrivals and exits, Nicole Kidman was signed on to star in the Allen film back in March and then quickly vacated the role weeks later.

This is a big coup for the actress who isn’t a familiar face in the U.S. Sources say she “wowed” the director with her audition, which makes me wonder about the range of this role. I’ve only seen her in comedies, but so much of the plot is being hidden for this film. Will this movie be like Annie Hall or will it be like Match Point? I guess we’ll have to just wait and see.
