The trailer for Gangster Squad is an interesting beast—it starts out appearing to be a star-studded (Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, and Emma Stone) and sharp take on 1940s noir; then, around 1:30 mark, it switches gears and becomes a Guy Ritchie-styled monstrosity. So what kind of film is this—an L.A. Confidential neo noir, or a Sherlock Holmes-in-fedoras mess? Check out the trailer and see if you can figure that one out.

With 3.3 Million viewers tuning into the pilot of Luck, HBO feels confident enough to order a second season of ten episodes. The show, which was written by Deadwood‘s David Milch and executive produced by Michael Mann, stars Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte (among others) in a series about a horse track and getting even. Though many shows have been cancelled after a high profile pilot failed to bring in viewers, rare is the show that is renewed so quickly renewed out the gate.

Michael Mann and David Milch make one heck of a combination. The creator of Miami Vice – and one of the greatest filmmakers on crime – and the creator of Deadwood working together? Sold American. A new trailer for the Arthur remake with Russell Brand has hit the net. The previous one was pretty funny but it was missing one important element — Greta Gerwig. She’s the lady who plays the real love of Arthur’s life, yet she didn’t get any screentime in the first trailer. She’s not exactly plastered all over this version either, but she gets something. Take a look…

Jennifer Garner wasn’t the star of Juno, but she played one of the creepiest high-maintenance characters we’ve ever seen, an experience that will undoubtedly help her with her next role. According to THR, Garner and Nick Nolte have joined the cast of Arthur, the remake of the 1981 comedy (of the same name) that currently stars Russell Brand, Helen Mirren and Greta Gerwig.

If there’s was one person in Hollywood you could choose to train you in a technique of martial arts who would it be? I’d go for Jet Li, Jackie Chan, or Jason Statham, but director Gavin O’Connor prefers his mentors more on the weathered side. According to FirstShowing, O’Connor has cast Nick Nolte as the lead in his MMA centered film, Warrior. Nolte will play “an ex-Vietnam vet boxer-turned-steel mill worker whose family was torn apart by his alcoholism.” Sounds like a role he was born to play.
Check out more after the jump.
