Now that April is officially here, the debut of Matthew Vaughn’s comic adaptation Kick-Ass is on the horizon. The film’s cult fanbase has grown significantly over the past year thanks to its unique marketing campaign and there’s more to come. Today, we’ve got two clips from the film that show the title character Kick-Ass himself and the older, slightly insane Big Daddy in action.

For some reason, Nicholas Cage decided to take the opportunity to step on stage before they screened a clip for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to talk about how he likes to make films for the children because of 9/11. I realize the date and I realize it’s importance, but I’m not quite sure how it was relevant?
His message, however well intentioned, did not make it across to the audience. When asked about producing and acting in the film he said:

Comic-Con is almost upon us and information is starting to steep out about what is showing and who will be there. Yesterday we saw the first banner for Avatar, today it has been confirmed that footage from Matthew Vaughn‘s new film, Kick-Ass, will be shown towards the end of the day on Thursday, July 23. There is no word on whether or not the stars of the film will make an appearance.
Kick-Ass is a Mark Millar comic about a dorky high school student, named Dave Lizewski, who decides to become a superhero. The only problem is he has no defining ability or even coordination. A few problems arise when Dave encounters bad guys who can fight and have weapons. The film stars Nicholas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Chloe Moretz. Aaron Johnson stars as Dave Lizewski and Lyndsy Fonseca plays his love interest. Nicholas Cage plays a former cop who has trained his daughter, Chole Moretz, to be a lethal weapon.

Nicholas Cage is a great actor, right? Well, let’s just start by admitting that he’s a successful actor: he’s in blockbuster summer hits that gross well over 100 million dollars, he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Leaving Las Vegas. He’s also a member of the dynastic Coppola family. Yet, in spite all of his accomplishments he regularly delivers sub-par performances in sub-par roles, typically in sub-par movies. At this point in his career he can afford to skip a few roles, yet his marriage to the King of Pop’s ex-wife may show how poor his decision making skills are. The following are ten of the worst films by Cage, as well as a few choice roles that makes all of us believe that a quality actor may still be lurking around in there somewhere.

Another end of the world popcorn flick anyone? This trailer is much better than the last trailer. It has many of the same images, but less of the forced drama. I used to love these movies until The Day the Earth Stood Still remake, where all they were trying to do was make you care. I didn’t care, I just wanted to watch some shit get destroyed from unimaginable angles. For some reason I just love watching the earth (most commonly in these movies the United States) get torn to shreds and then I return to my cozy bed.
