This week we’ve got a new take on the action film, some love stories, a movie about a choir, Madonna‘s directorial debut, and the Men in Black. It’s not a bad week for releases – all things – with some great catalog titles to replace old DVD editions (if that’s your thing).
New Year’s Eve is around the corner. 2011 is coming to an end and we have the ensemble movie New Year’s Eve to remind us of that. To celebrate the new year and release of the movie, we at ScreenCrave put together a competition where we asked you to name 20 actors, of you choice, that you would put in a film. We got everything from celebrities to serious actors. Unfortunately the competition has closed, and it is time to reveal our winner for the amazing New Year’s Eve Giveaway. The Twilight Saga finally got knocked down from its three-week perch at the top of the box office by none other than, New Year’s Eve. Although the star-studded movie took the top spot during its debut weekend, it is off to a dreadful start — $13.7 million. Jonah Hill‘s The Sitter followed New Year’s Eve with another low score of $10 million. Breaking Dawn Part 1 fell to No. 3, and brought in $7.9 million, bringing its worldwide total to an outstanding $633.5 million. The Muppets was No. 4 with $6.6 million; and Arthur Christmas fell to No. 5 with $6.6 million.

This Fall has been modest in comparison to many other recent years, in terms of major film releases. On paper there were a number of films that could have been $100 Million plus titles, but only Breaking Dawn has done blockbuster business, and has remained on top of the box office for three weeks. That’s going to change with the release of New Year’s Eve. Still, it’s been a slow, slow Fall.

Just when we thought New Year’s Eve was done with its growing cast, we were proven wrong. The movie has re-added Oscar winner Halle Berry according to THR. The actress previously signed on for the film back in December but was replaced by Katherine Heigl shortly after. But the trade is reporting that she’s back and playing a completely different character. What in the world is going on over there?
Just when we thought we’d found one romantic comedy without Katherine Heigl’s influence, we’ve been proven wrong! Over the past month, the casting for Garry Marshall’s latest film New Year’s Eve has been growing at the speed of light. The movie has experienced a serious surge in actors with the latest batch being added on Thursday. Now according to Deadline, the reigning rom-com queen Heigl has found a way to creep into the mix.
Earlier today we expressed our concern about the growing cast of Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve. The romantic comedy is becoming less of an ensemble and more of a free-for-all. This morning it was announced that Josh Duhamel had joined the cast and now THR is reporting that two more have signed on to co-star. Make room for Ice Cube and Ryan Seacrest everybody!
