Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse: Which Film Had the Best Trailer?

Here we are, Twitards. I noticed in the last couple of days that it’s been getting a lot more humid, then I realized that the new Twilight movie, Eclipse, is coming out this week. Makes sense. Hopefully there will be less moisture in the air after the weekend passes. What? I’m just talking about the weather. Most of you who want to see the movie are probably already in line, or have been for the past year or so. As for the rest of us, Summit is still trying to suck those who don’t give two shi(p)s about the movie into theaters on opening weekend. They release these things called “trailers” that give us a “preview” of what we would see if we were to buy tickets to their piece of art.

Eclipse marks the third time that the Twilight series will grace intelligent movie lovers with its presence. Since movies release multiple trailers, we chose to use the last and final trailer that is released before the movie comes out. Let’s take a look at which of the three had the best trailer, shall we?

1. Twilight

Since the only people who knew about Twilight at the time were insecure teenage girls and horny housewives discovering their sexuality, not many people had heard of Twilight. Knowing this, the filmmakers had to make a trailer to try and appeal to mass audiences of insecure women. What about the guys? They’re the ones who are getting dragged to go see it. So f*** ‘em.

The trailer starts with the dramatic moment in the first film where Edward uses his super strength to save Bella from an out of control van. Bella then attempts to guess what Edward is by dropping references to Superman and Spiderman.

Nice try with the geek talk, filmmakers. We’re then given a taste of their forbidden romance that is to come when we see them kiss and give each other some sexy looks. I think, at this point, that they realized they had to have some sort of storyline and not just sexual tension. Let’s throw in bad vampires who want to eat Bella! Yeah, that’s it! And by throwing in pretty much all of the action from the movie in the last 20 seconds, we can get dudes excited about the movie!

They did this in order to leave out what the movie is really about = Bella wanting to bang Edward and something else about her emotions that I didn’t really pay attention to. This trailer was made to trick those of us who knew nothing about Twilight that it was a vampire flick. And for that I say screw you, Summit.

Rating: 3/10 I gave it three points for being tricky. It originally got ten points off for making me pay to see the movie.

Was it better or worse than the actual movie? Going to go with better than the movie here due to it being an hour and seventeen minutes shorter.

2. New Moon

Alright, cat’s outta the bag. At the point everyone knows what Twilight and what it’s about. No point in them making deceiving trailers to lure more people in. They have their audience and now it’s time to make sure they stick around for more. Might as well give them what they want, right? Ef yeah, it is!

After starting off ”dark” and eerie with snippets of the Volturi and neck snapping, they get into Bella’s lip biting, self-pitying depression, and constipated acting. Edward has left her for her own good, but not for ours. Now we are stuck with Bella to see her moan and go into the fetal position as she sees tries to forget Ed- ohmigod is that Jacob without a shirt?!?! Oh yes, bring out the shirtless boys! That’ll get them into seats!

We get about six moments with our shirtless leads in this trailer. If I were a Twitard, that would be equal to six orgasms. But I’m not, so it was six shots of vodka to try and forget what I just watched. Then they try and end it with some more action to try and remind the guys that it won’t be all bad. Don’t try and sandwich a bunch of constipated acting and talk about emotions with a couple of action sequences. You’re not tricking me again!

Rating: 4/10 I respect you for being honest this time around as far as what you’re selling, but now it makes me not respect you for making that kind of movie to begin with.

Was it better or worse than the actual movie? Better, of course. Sitting through this movie was even more painful than the first. Watching Kristen Stewart moan and complain for two hours is too much. It was hard enough to watch in the trailer.

3. Eclipse

It’s been two movies, but you guys still have more of a story to tell? I (painfully) read the books and, yes, it can all be fit into about the size of a comic book. Most of it is Bella talking about how hard Edward’s body is, how beautiful his eyes are, his cold touch, and much more. I believe I just made all of the women in my apartment complex feel a shiver down their spine by writing that. Oh yes, Twilight is that powerful. Which is why we have our third and most recent trailer:

Oh boy. Let the love triangle begin! Even though the trailer starts off with some sexual tension, it goes right into what seems to be the main focus of this movie: vampires and werewolves battling to the death! A lot of creepy shots and action sequences. Instead of sandwiching in the emotional stuff with action, they decided to have nothing but action!

Now, given that I haven’t seen this one yet (Yes, I am going to. When you have a girlfriend, it’s kind of obligatory), but watching that trailer makes me feel a bit less dreadful about seeing it. But I do know it is another trick of theirs to make us guys feel like it’s going to be okay. It’s not. It will never be okay. We’re going to get in there and watch them attempt to act as Bella looks constipated and bites her lower lip for 90 minutes.

Rating: 5/10 For a semi-cool action packed trailer. Five points were docked for my inevitable letdown… and because it’s Twilight.

Was it better or worse than the actual movie? I (surprisingly) have not seen this one yet. My girlfriend probably isn’t taking me this time around due to me laughing my way through the last two. But I know I can safely say this trailer is better than the movie. If you disagree with me then you must like Twilight.

The Winner: Eclipse

Because it had the one with the least amount of dialogue and most action. I’m a guy, what’d you expect? But what about you?

Twilight and New Moon – Double Feature! Run!!!

Whether you choose to run toward or away from the event is your choice! But if you’re excited to see Twilight: Eclipse, but there’s only one problem? You miss Twilight and New Moon. Well, lucky for you Summit and Moviefone are taking care of you with a double feature of both films under the stars, a week before the opening of Eclipse. That’s right, it’s a Twilight double feature. I’ll be hiding from all you Twi-Hards in the mountains some where, but if this kind of 5 hour, fantasy-fest is your thing, then get all the information on how to see it below…

In celebration of the lunar eclipse on the evening of June 26th, Summit Entertainment is inviting everyone across the nation to “TWILIGHT Night,” a 12-city event including outdoor screenings of TWILIGHT and THE TWIILGHT SAGA: NEW MOON. After sifting through countless comments both entertaining and disturbing, we’re ready to announce the winner of our Twilight: New Moon Special 2-Disc DVD giveaway! To enter, you had to tell us what you would do to spend an hour with a member from the movie’s cast. Once we opened it up to all the Twihards out there we were flooded with some the strangest comments we have ever seen. Due to the sheer volume, we thought it would be fun to post some of the top contenders that caught our eye.

Twilight’s New Moon DVD Sells 4 Million Copies!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the latest vampire-werewolf centered film marketed towards 14-year-old girls and (inappropriate) forty-somethings, debuted on DVD and Blu-Ray last Saturday and sold a staggering four million copies during its opening weekend, according to Collider.

Four. Million. Copies. Does anyone remember that scene in the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers, when that wave of horror washes over Kevin McCarthy’s face just as he realizes that everyone he knows has been replaced with a duplicate pod person? Me too, guys—me too.

The first Twilight film sold 3.8 million copies in its opening weekend before steamrolling on to sell nine million copies total. Despite the fact that DVD sales have been in a slump as of late, expect The Twilight Saga: New Moon to do business equal to its predecessor, if not better, between now and the inevitable release of The Twilight Sage: Eclipse on June 30th (which–gasp!–got a new theatrical poster this week).

In other news, rumors ran rampant in Hollywood that Twilight star Kristen Stewart made a facial expression. More on that story as it develops.

Twilight Eclipse 7 Minute Sneak Peek!

Last week The Twilight Saga: New Moon DVD hit shelves and if you’re like most girls in the world, you stood in line waiting for it feverishly. If you bought a copy at Walmart you got a little something extra with your film, the Ultimate Fan Edition of the DVD has a seven minute clip from Eclipse located on the disc. Of course that footage has leaked online, and we’ve got it for you right here…

The sneak peek features interviews from a lot of the actors discussing how Eclipse will be filled with an all out war, especially with Victoria literally out for blood. The actress who will play the role of the red headed vamp is Bryce Dallas Howard, and we get to see and hear a little bit of what her portrayal of the character will be like. Everyone pretty much understands that Victoria is seeking revenge for the death of James and they all seem to be scared sh*tless about it.

In my opinion, the best part of this sneak peek is seeing both the vampire and the werewolf actors in training for their epic battle in the movie. They’ll actually join forces to fight a common enemy and that means they need to be in tip top shape. There’s even a shot of Robert Pattinson on a huge treadmill trying to get his cardio and endurance up!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon Headed to DVD

It seems like just yesterday we were watching Taylor Lautner rip off his shirt and flex his abs in front of a 30 foot screen. But that was last fall and now The Twilight Saga: New Moon is gearing up to hit DVD shelves. In an announcement made today by Summit Entertainment, the vampires and werewolves are ready for your home entertainment use, and a release date has already been set.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 20, 2010. If you’re one of those people who are fans of collector’s editions or special cuts, you can own a two disc special edition copy of the movie in both traditional and Blu-ray format. When New Moon was in theaters it took in an estimated 300 million dollars domestically, and had the third largest weekend opening of all time with 142 million.

If you’re interested in knowing what type of special features will pop up on the DVDs we’ve got you covered. The press release that was sent out by Summit revealed what each package will entail. Once, again the street release date is March 20th, but there will be pre-sale copies available starting January 26th.

New Moon Bootlegging Charges Dropped

The drama behind the accidental New Moon bootlegging incident has come to an end. Weeks ago a Chicago woman was arrested for having footage from the film on her digital camera and even though she insisted that she had no intention of bootlegging the movie, she still ended up in jail.

According to THR, Cook County prosecutors announced Friday in court that they won’t pursue charges against Samantha Tumpach. She was previously arrested on November 28th for recording less than 4 minutes of New Moon on her camera. As her defense, she stated that she was taping her sister’s birthday party and wasn’t trying to record the movie. Her story made national headlines and even caught the attention of New Moon director Chris Weitz.

Weitz wrote an email defending the woman, stating that she obviously had no intention of recording the film for illegal purposes. “He told the Chicago Sun-Times there’s a difference between trying to protect a copyright and prosecuting someone who didn’t mean to commit video piracy.”

I think it’s ironic that the police pressed this woman so hard for footage that didn’t even contain consecutive shots from the film. She had two segments recorded and the rest were mixed with images of her family and friends. Who would buy that? If they really want to crack down on bootlegging, they should check the post production houses that edit these movies. Everyone knows that’s where all the clear copies come from.

New Moon Director Defends Accused Bootlegger

The Twilight Saga: New Moon made a killing at the box office when it debuted in theaters, regardless of online piracy and bootlegging. Recently a woman was arrested for attempting to record the movie at a local theater, and she’s gained a massive amount of media attention. She even caught the eye of New Moon director Chris Weitz who is speaking out in her defense.

A 22 year old Chicago woman named, Samantha Tumpach was charged with one count of criminal use of a motion picture exhibition, a Class 4 felony. Tumpach was caught with a digital recorder during a screening of New Moon at a Rosemont movie theater, and it earned her two nights in jail. When the footage was reviewed by officials there was less than 4 minutes of the film captured, along with images of her family and friends.

In her defense she stated that she was recording parts of her sister’s surprise birthday party that took place at the Muvico Theater. She claims that she had no intention of pirating the movie, which can clearly be seen by looking at the video. New Moon director Chris Weitz sent in an e-mail to the Chicago Sun Times stating his concern over the incident.

Weitz stated that there’s a difference between protecting someone’s copyrights and persecuting an individual who clearly doesn’t have any intentions towards video piracy. From an outsiders perspective, it sounds like the woman might be innocent. If there weren’t any clear, leveled or consistent shots from the movie on her camera, maybe she didn’t intend to sell it. The last time I checked even the most amateur bootlegs pick up the entire movie, not bits and pieces. Who would buy that?

Twilight’s Heading to TV

The FX cable network has acquired the television rights to broadcast The Twilight Saga over the next couple of years. They also scooped up two sci-fi movies and an Oscar hopeful thanks to preexisting agreements they have with Summit Entertainment and various other studios.

According to THR, FX will start running last year’s Twilight in late 2011, while New Moon will debut in 2012, and Eclipse will air in early 2013. At the moment Summit has yet to greenlight Breaking Dawn, the fourth installment of the series but we all know its coming. Even the actors involved are expecting to film the movie relatively soon. The studio will continue to milk this cow until there’s nothing left.

On another note, FX also picked up a couple on non-vampire related films including The Hurt Locker, Knowing, and Push. All three movies are set to debut sometime in mid-2012. Having these films on their upcoming slate will be a ratings coupe for the cable network, but it will cost them a good chunk of change.

The license fee for the movies is based on their North American box office performance. If the third and fourth Twilight movies continue to go strong, each reaching the $200 million mark domestically, FX could end up paying close to $100 million for the quartet. (For a marquee film title, ad-supported networks usually shell out about 12% of the domestic tally and as much per as $24 million if the movie’s receipts total crosses $200 million.)

This would have been an even better deal for the fans had the movies gone to a broadcast affiliate like ABC,NBC, or CBS. At least that way everyone could watch it, and you wouldn’t miss out if you didn’t have cable. If the wait is that long, you might as well pick up the DVDs.
