The Christian Post talked to Michael Flaherty, co-founder and president of Walden Media, and he tipped his hand that The Magician’s Nephew will be the fourth Narnia film (even though it’s the sixth book in the series), if there is to be a fourth Narnia film at all. Flaherty makes no guarantees, as he has to talk to both 20th Century Fox and the C.S. Lewis Estate before going forward – and that’s all before the script has been written. This could be a talk, but let’s look at the numbers…

The first trailer for the 20th Century Fox adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has been released. After the lackluster debut of Prince Caspian a few years ago, and Disney’s decision to drop the property, we weren’t sure if this installment would ever see the big screen. But lucky for us, Fox came in and saved the day and set it up as a 2010 holiday release. Check out the trailer…

So, the Narnia trilogy is moving full speed ahead. I haven’t heard much about the third film installment of the series, The Dawn Treader and I was getting a bit worried until I came across this piece of casting news over at Moviehole. New Zealand actor Roy Billing has been cast in the upcoming film as Chief Dufflepud. He’s an interesting choice, but I think he has what it takes to pull it off.

For a little while there, it looked like the third film from The Chronicles of Narnia series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, would be docked for good. But with a 20th Century Fox takeover (who needs Disney anyway?) and the hiring of screenwriter Michael Petroni to pen the screenplay, it looks like the movie will set sail after all.
Petroni replaced Richard LaGravanases to script the adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ novel, which tells the story of the two younger Pevensie children, Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) returning to Narnia, along with their stuck-up cousin Eustace (Will Poulter). Once there, the children must find Prince Caspian and join him on a sea journey aboard the Dawn Treader.

Remember after school reading programs? The annual book fair, or dare I say the “Bookmobile?” After watching Lain Softley’s adaptation of Cornelia Funke’s novel Inkheart, that’s all I could think of. With a story submerged in children’s literature, it’s easy to feel as if you’re being held captive in a library instead of a theater. Inkheart makes an attempt to follow in the footsteps of Narnia, and The Golden Compass, with it’s fantasy driven theme, special effect’s, and Oscar winning cast, but doesn’t quite make it.

In 2007 everyone was blown away by the box office numbers with such releases as Spiderman 3, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Shrek the Third, and Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End. No one thought the 2008 film slate stood a chance. That is until Batman raked in the cash, Iron Man blasted the competition, and Indy whipped his way to box office gold. Last year we saw records breaking left and right, led by an onslaught of well known superheroes. With the country suffering from an ailing economy, jobs being cut and companies crumbling, the box office is still flourishing. Although the entertainment industry appears strong at the moment, recent reports have stated that this may be the first time the entertainment industry won’t be able to hang on.
So we have to ask, will the film industry be effected by the economy? And what are studios doing to protect themselves?

Forget Lord Voldemort. It may be the recession, the credit crunch or whatever you want to call it that may actually kill Harry. And by kill, I mean that the final book in the beloved series won’t make it to the screen. Don’t believe me? Well, it’s not beyond rumor yet, but the main screenwriter of the series says the bean counters at Warner Brothers are scared… and it ain’t of the creepy guy missing a nose.

With all the hype surrounding Twilight, and Harry Potter, we’ve all forgotten about the little books that could, The Chronicles of Narnia. This shift in popularity may be the cause for its primary financial backer deciding to pull out of the franchise. According to THR, Disney will not co-produce or finance the next adaptation from the book series, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
