For reasons known only to the harsh and meaningless universe, which deems it necessary to punish all living things with an existence that is barren of hope, decency, or reason, another Mortal Kombat film is being made, thanks to the good folks over at Warner Games, who are hoping that if there’s one thing moviegoers want to see in 2013, it’s a film in which a hearty young lad by the name of Johnny Cage rips out the spine of a strange chap named Noob Saibot and then chokes him to death with said spine as that wacky Noob proceeds to violently vomit out his own entrails before spasmodically dying.

What is Mortal Kombat Rebirth? The trailer for it has popped up online and we’re not sure if it’s a promo for a new game or a live action film. The last time we saw MK in theaters it was 1997 with Annihilation the second of two lackluster adaptations by Paul WS Anderson.
Over at Latino Review, they’ve learned that this new video is being used as “test” to show studios what they can do if given the funds to produce a legit R-rated version. The actors used in the trailer are Michael Jai White (Jax), Jeri Ryan (Sonya Blade), Matt Mullins (Johnny Cage), Lateef Crowder (Baraka) and Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion) with fight choreography by LarnellStovall . Check it out…

Get over here! It sounds like Warner Bros’ is channeling the inner chi of Scorpion one of Mortal Kombat‘s most well known characters. The studio picked up the film franchise rights last summer, and it sounds like they’re ready to do something with them. We heard that Warner Bros had bought most of Midway Games’ assets, including the hit game Mortal Kombat, but are they already moving forward with it? Last night, Firstshowing was sent a random link, from a small California newspaper SGV Tribune saying that the former actor and karate teacher Chris Casamassa, who played Scorpion in the original two Mortal Kombat movies was getting ready to start filming a third movies by the end of this year. What?!
