Disney has released a new TV spot for their live action adaptation of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The film features Nicolas Cage as a sorcerer who likes to dress like a hobo in his free time and is grooming Jay Burachel to be his successor. Check out the new promo below…

Apprentice is loosely based on the Disney classic Fantasia, but takes place in present day Manhattan. Cage plays a contemporary sorcerer who leaves everything in the hands of his apprentice (Baruchel) when he goes on a trip. The film also stars Alfred Molina as the main villain, an evil sorcerer who believes the world centers around two things, power and control.

Even though Cage’s performance seems a bit over the top, the film’s based on the concept of good and bad “magic” so what would you expect? Also, the special effects are a plus because they look a lot better than what we’ve seen from that other Disney blockbuster, Prince of Persia (sorry Jake).

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is directed by Jon Turteltaub and co-stars Teresa Palmer and Monica Bellucci. The film opens in theaters nationwide on July 16, 2010.

JustJared has recently posted some new photos of Monica Bellucci and Nicolas Cage stirring up some magic on the set of Jon Turteltaub‘s (Cool Runnings, National Treasues 1 and 2) new film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The film is currently shooting in Battery Park, New York. Between the fire and Bellucci’s cleavage, one thing is for sure, this is one hot kids film.

Bellucci, who is 44-year-old (and still as sexy as ever) plays Veronica, a sorceress and the long-lost love of Nicolas’ character, Balthazar Blake.

Even though production began a while ago, Nicolas Cage’s upcoming project The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is still adding to it’s cast. Apprentice is loosely based on the Disney animated classic Fantasia which featured Mickey Mouse. In this version Cage plays a contemporary sorcerer who leaves everything in the hands of his apprentice (Jay Baruchel) when he goes on a trip. According to Variety, Italian actress Monica Bellucci has been tapped to co-star in the film opposite Cage as a love interest and a sorceress.

Bellucci will play Veronica, the long lost love of Cage’s Balthazar Blake. The actress will be joining the cast, which currently includes Teresa Palmer, Toby Kebbell, and Alfred Molina. Cage is doubling as actor and producer for the feature via his Saturn Films along with partner Norm Golightly. Bellucci is best known to American audiences for her role in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

I’m sure Bellucci will do fine going up against Cage. She’s a sorceress, he’s a sorcerer, he’s Italian, she’s Italian, their like ying and yang. I just want to get the image of her from the 2007 film Shoot’em Up out of my head. That movie was horrible and went beyond ridiculous in terms of it’s plot and dialogue. Show me something new Bellucci, please!
