According to a report from THR, Webb may be in line to replace Steven Soderbergh on the developing drama, Moneyball.

So what ever happened to Steven Soderbergh’s planned adaptation of the Michael Lewis book Moneyball which was supposed to be written by Aaron Sorkin and star Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s manager who used non-traditional statistical systems to build the cheapest winning baseball team alongside Demetri Martin? It got inexplicably canceled a couple of months ago, with no explanation. That is until just now.

Columbia has replaced Steven Soderbergh with Aaron Sorkin to write Moneyball. Production was set to start in June with Soderbergh, but was later cancelled after Amy Pascal and other executives felt the script was different than what they signed on for, reports THR.

Brad Pitt is still set to star as Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s manager who used non-traditional statistical systems to build the cheapest winning baseball team.

According to Variety, Columbia Pictures had a change of heart after company topper Amy Pascal read the final script and didn’t like the new direction the filmmaker was going in. Soderbergh planned to use real former baseball players, Scott Hatteberg and David Justice in the movie. (Variety)
