Piles of bits and pieces for the day:

- Mickey Rourke is getting his handprints immortalized at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The theater has recently been offering more people to get their prints in their cement, with the Twilight Cast also recently were announced to be hand dippers as well. Part of this is trying to bring new life to the theater, which has been eclipse fiscally by the Arclight theater down the street.

- Daniel Radcliffe‘s got a new movie that isn’t Harry Potter, and there’s a teaser for it. The film is called The Woman in Black. Check it out…

- Harrison Ford knows of Uncharted, which seems drawn from the Indiana Jones films. Heck, he’s even played it.

Chronicle is a found footage superhero movie. Found footage is wearing out its welcome like woah, but the central conceit of this looks pretty good:

The most recognizable face there is Michael B. Jordan, familiar to fans of The Wire and Friday Night Lights.

- Mark Romanek is considered the front runner for The Lost Symbol, according to Deadline Hollywood. Romanek is coming off of Never Let Me Go, a film which I thought was the best film of last year, but also one that didn’t make much of an impact. romanek may need to make a film that makes some money, and this is something of a safe bet, even if it’s a sequel to The Da Vinci Code.

Megan Fox is an Angel in Passion Play

Though surely men have described Megan Fox as heavenly before, it seems that the film Passion Play is making that literal. In the trailer for her new film, Fox has wings and everything. She’s joined by Mickey Rourke, Bill Murray and Rhys Ifans, and was directed by Mitch Glazer. The film opens May 6, and hits DVD on May 31. The cast is A list talent, but the film looks sort of weird and direct-to-video-ish. Take a look…

Again, this looks like the sort of thing that either works, or is torturous to sit through. The film screened at Toronto’s film festival last year and was panned hard, so likely this doesn’t work, but Bill Murray usually puts something on the ball. This wouldn’t be Murray’s first time working with Glazer as Glazer was one of the writers on Scrooged, and used to work with Michael O’Donoghue. Since then he’s been doing studio work, including writing the scripts for such films as The Recruit, and the 1998 version of Great Expectations.

This is Glazer’s first film as a director. Which means it’s likely heavy on ideas, though may lack a good visual sense. Going from the trailer, the idea of Rourke and Murray squaring off is so weird that it looks fascinating. The film opens May 6 in New York and Los Angeles. Likely this is contractual obligation.

Do you find it weird that a film with this many A-listers is essentially going straight to video?

Do you remember hearing about an American adaptation of the French film 13 Tzameti? The original was released in 2005 and the English version was filmed a few years ago but it still hasn’t seen the light of day. Just when we thought all was lost the first trailer gets released. It features Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Ray Winstone, Sam Riley, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Take a look…

This film combines all of the usual elements of gritty filmmaking. It has a wide range of actors, there’s missing money, people’s lives are on the line, and at the center of it all is an organized game of Russian roulette. The game which is led by none other than Oscar nominee Michael Shannon. Will he ever do something that doesn’t force him to act creepy and indecent?

For those of you who are adamantly against Hollywood remakes of foreign films, here’s a bonus: 13 is directed by Géla Babluani, the same guy who helmed the original. This doesn’t look like our cup of tea but we can see the appeal for those of you who are interested.

Megan Fox Spreads Her Wings In Passion Play Clip

The first clip has been released from the indie drama Passion Play that stars Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox. It’s an interesting yet creepy tale about two people who bond over their faults. Earlier this summer while out promoting Jonah Hex, Fox spoke about her role in the film and revealed a little about the relationship between her and Rourke’s characters.

Mickey’s character is a trumpet player. He’s kind of down on his luck and he was a heroin addict. He comes across my character who’s a part of a traveling freak show. She has bird wings that sprouted out of her back when she went through puberty and it’s sort of this very bizarre, strange relationship that they have and it follows them. It’s sort of a modern film noir. It’s very tragic.

Over at ET, they’ve posted a clip from the movie that shows Fox unveiling her wings to Rourke.

Passion Play will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

A new trailer has been released for Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables and it features a whole lot of action mashed into 60 seconds. When you take the world’s most talented and well known action icons and put them in one film prepare yourself for some balls to the wall over the top fun. Check out the latest trailer…

The Expendables co-stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story centers on a group of rogue mercenaries on a mission to take down the corrupt government in a South American country.

I love everything this movie has to offer. The premise is campy, unoriginal, and it features the most typical eighties dialogue ever written — and that’s what makes it awesome! Running with machine guns, MMA and wrestling stars going toe to toe, and Dolph Lundgren throwing guys on spikes just because he can. You gotta love it!

The Expendables is directed by Stallone and will open in theaters everywhere on August 13, 2010.

Expendables Gun Fight Clip: Stallone vs Statham vs Mercenaries

A new clip for The Expendables was just sent over to us and it fills all the kick-ass requirements… Overtly macho? Check. Bad action-movie-dialogue? Check. Needless off-the-cuff slaughter? Check. Completely ridiculous? Double check! To some people those might seem like shortcoming but to us it’s just what the doctor ordered. Take a look…

That was pretty over the top but what else would you expect from a Sylvester Stallone testosterone fest that stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger? If it didn’t border on the ridiculous it wouldn’t feel right.

It looks like Stallone and Statham will have an “odd couple” type of relationship in the film, which could either work or be annoying as hell. As for the rest of the crew, their jobs are to sit there and look deadly while their leaders plan out their next move. They can have Crews and Couture in the background all they want but Jet Li better get a decent amount of screen time, because let’s be honest, he’s the most badass. Don’t let the size fool you!

The Expendables is scheduled to hit theaters on August 13, 2010.

The Final Poster for The Expendables

Lionsgate has just unleashed the final poster for Sylvester Stallone’s testosterone fest, The Expendables. Last week they released a new trailer for the film that was less than action-packed and filled with gimmicks. It focused more on the talent than the movie itself, which is exactly what this one sheet does. It’s all about the acclaimed action stars that make up the cast as opposed to the “story.” Take a look…

The Expendables stars Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and for a brief cameo, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Check out everyone with the exception of the Governator featured on the poster below.

The fact that Bruce Willis is the only character featured wearing a business suit, should be a tell-tale sign that he won’t be heavily involved with the majority of the film. He looks like a behind the scenes type of guy who doesn’t want to get his hands dirty but is willing bankroll anyone who’ll do it for him.

The Expendables is directed by Stallone and is scheduled to hit theaters on August 13, 2010.

New Expendables Trailer is Legendary

A new trailer has been released for Sylvester Stallone’s latest action flick, The Expendables and surprisingly it’s a lot shorter than the first one. It plays more like a teaser and shows barely any footage but what it lacks in story it makes up for in heavy handed marketing. The people behind this movie really want you to know that this is an action epic…

The Expendables stars Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, oh yeah and The Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger. The last two actors actually make cameo appearances in the film and don’t have real roles yet they get top billing in the trailer? It doesn’t make sense but we guess they’re trying to capitalize on the name and face recognition.

Another interesting promo tool they used are clips of cliched action dialogue and taglines. You have to see this movie because it has the “Greatest Action Stars of All Time!” Even though this is one of our must sees for the summer, this trailer is a disappointment. Come on guys, step it up.

Photos From Tarsem Singh’s Immortals

Over the weekend Rogue Pictures released a few production stills from their upcoming Greek epic, Immortals. The film is directed by Indian helmer Tarsem Singh and features “The Tudors” Henry Cavill, Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, and Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto. The film’s premise is very similar to Clash of the Titans and aesthetically it looks like the yet to be released Neil Marshall film, Centurion. Take a peek at the photos and tell us what you think…

Immortals centers on a young warrior named Theseus (Cavill) who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat the evil and powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Rourke stars as the film’s villain King Hyperion, while Pinto plays Phaedra, an oracle priestess who aids the young warrior on his quest.

We have to admit, Rourke’s blind eye is a bit distracting in his photo but it adds a badass factor to his character. He looks batsh*t crazy, which makes us wonder what type of psycho antics King Hyperion will be involved with. Cavill is ripped as Theseus but he looks like a standard Greek action hero, we’ll need to hear some dialogue and see him fight before we judge him.

Immortals also stars John Hurt as Zeus, Twilight’s Kellan Lutz as Poseidon (rolls eyes), Isabel Lucas as Zeus’ daughter Athena, and Stephen Dorff as Stavros a “master thief.” The film will debut in theaters on November 11, 2011 (yes, its release date is the gimmicky 11-11-2011).

Mickey Rourke Cast in Tony Scott’s Hells Angels?

Tony Scott has been developing a big screen adaptation of the book Hells Angels for the past few years but it’s taken a back seat to some of his more recent projects like the upcoming action flick, Unstoppable. According to Deadline there’s been some movement on the Angels front that involves the casting of Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke and one of the stars from Transformers.

According to the site Fox 2000 is currently in negotiations with Rourke to star as Sonny Barger, the founder of the famous Oakland Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. Last year it was revealed that Scott and Stephen Gaghan were developing the film’s script and now we’ve learned that Scott Frank has been brought in for rewrites.

Besides Rourke, sources are saying that Shia Labeouf’s name is also being thrown around for a part. We don’t know how and we don’t know why but it’s out there. Even though Rourke doesn’t look anything like Barger we can buy him as an ex-con and a biker. Labeouf on the other hand is questionable. Whenever his name pops up in the same sentence as motorcycle we see images of Mutt Williams from Indiana Jones.

Do you think Mickey Rourke can play a believable Sonny Barger? Who could Labeouf be?

Audio/Video: Iron Man 2 Press Conference – Downey Jr., Favreau, Rourke, Paltrow, Johansson, Cheadle

Not long ago we attended the press conference for Iron Man 2, which was basically Robert Downey Jr.‘s chance to show off a unique hybrid between himself and Tony Stark. Not only did he dominate the stage, the questions, and everyone elses answers, but at one point he literally “held” the press conference together – but more on that below. In attendance along with Downey was the director Jon Favreau, writer Justin Theroux, producer Kevin Peige and cast members Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, and Don Cheadle (sadly no Sam Rockwell who absolutely rocked the film).

There’s no doubt that Downey is as entertaining in person as he is on screen. He’s smart, clever, scolds bad journalists in a professional and yet witty way. And although he’s jovial he in no way takes what he does for granted and you can tell that he works very hard at what he does and knows how to give one hell of a sound bite. For instance…

Question: Robert, did you dress up as a superhero as a kid for Halloween?

Downey: Growing up, no, but in my mid-thirties in Palm Springs right before an arrest, yes. Underwear Man. It was a premonition.

And of course the telling off of the journalist…

Question: This is a little off topic. Robert, are you going to be the Vampire Lestat?

Downey: Yeah. I mean anything that’s going on, just imagine that it’s been offered to me. I like that you’re imagining that we’ve been on topic so far.

Jon Faverau comes off almost exactly opposite of Downey, he’s much more humble and sweet with long detailed answers about the process of film-making. He seems like he hasn’t let any of this go to his head and really cares about what his fans think of his work.

Question: There was a lot of improv in the making of the first Iron Man. How much of the original script are we seeing onscreen? And how much of it is the entire group coming together and making things up as they go?

Favreau: The story was very well fleshed out… We leave a lot of room in those scenes and try to do multiple cameras sometimes or stay up and rewrite. Justin, he was doing multiple passes, sometimes double digit passes on scenes because we learn things from each scene that we shoot. We try to shoot pretty much in order and what’s nice about having the actors that you see up here is that they’re all very good stewards of their characters emotionally and they’re used to being in films where you don’t have the safety net of all the high technology and the explosions.

One of the best parts of the press conference was the banter between Downey and Favreau…

Question: Jon, I noticed your cameo from the first movie definitely got more fleshed out. Why did you decide to join in on the action yourself? Robert, I noticed your wife’s name was in the credits as a producer when she wasn’t on the last film. What did that mean for you?

Favreau: Sure. Do you mind if we swap questions? He’ll talk about Happy Hogan and I’ll talk about Susan Downey? Susan is a great producer. It’s not like she came onboard and became a producer because we’re making ‘Iron Man’. Quite the contrary. We were funneling towards a start date and we had a lot of ideas spread out and… she has tremendous organizational ability and she understands Robert’s creative process, understands the first movie and lived through it with us.

Downey: On a certain level they might’ve thought that she was going to come in and tame me or put me in check but I was completely out of my mind — power hungry. Let’s talk about Happy Hogan. There’s three Happy Hogan’s in the movie. There’s the Jon Favreau that’s in actually excellent shape. He was boxing everyday in pre-production and made it into the ring for the scene where he gets his ass handed to him by Scarlett. It was originally a longer scene and maybe he was just too emasculated to let it be in the movie, (to Scarlett) but I think you laid the boots to him quite severely….

Favreau: Yes. He’s on a run, let him go.

Downey: Then about midway he’s struggling with the meta-fast but occasionally binge-eating on pizza and then saying, ‘This is crazy. I have to get back in the gym -’

Favreau: Can I have my question back?

Downey: By the time we were doing re-shoots they were framing him out of shots. Here’s the thing though, this is one of the things that I love about you.

Favreau: Oh, here we go now.

Downey: You know what, I don’t even have the up beat part. I forgot it.

Paltrow and Downey did have something interesting to say about the tension and kiss between them…

Question: There’s a real ‘Moonlighting’ thing going on with your two characters in this film, but the kiss was highly anticipated. How it was finally having that onscreen kiss?

Downey: I couldn’t get her off me. It was embarrassing.

Paltrow: It was great because both my husband and his wife were right there.

Downey: Yeah. She said to me that I didn’t know what I was doing, like it didn’t feel good and I’m like, ‘You know what, first of all, we’re all friends so what would be creepy is if I was coming off all sexy to you,’ and by the way I’ve done that in movies and it creeps them out!

Don Cheadle was only asked the mundane “so what was it like taking over the role from Terrance Howard” question and Mickey Rourke although asked questions, didn’t really give any answers. You try asking an intimidating brick wall a question when it doesn’t want to talk, it’s not easy! Nor productive.

Sadly, the hour that we were supposed to have with the bunch quickly got cut short because a poster fell behind the actors and apparently we can’t ask questions without an image behind them. Although Downey quickly ran to pick it up, wrap it around himself and point to the people on the poster who were answering question, the press conference was quickly shut down. You can see everything up until “the banner falling catastrophe” in the video below but if you want to hear the full shenanigans listen to the audio below the video…

Hilarious Japanese Trailer For The Expendables

A new overseas trailer has been released for Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action flick, The Expendables and it’s hilarious! The film isn’t a comedy but the Japanese promo brings the funny. It’s a 30 second TV spot that features all the major actors in tough situations using their expert training in combat and weaponry to survive. In other words, it’s set up like every other movie made between 1980-1989. Take a look…

Besides Stallone, the cast of The Expendables consists of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, oh yeah and The Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story centers on a group of rogue mercenaries on a mission to take down the corrupt government in a South American country.

Is it just us, or does this look like an advertisement for an energy drink? The narrator is so loud and over the top. This type of presentation is typical in Japanese promos but this one is so extreme. When the credits appear with the names of the various actors we keep expecting one of them to stop, look at the camera, and take a swig of Redbull.
