So the big news so far this week is that Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, The Man of Steel. And now, RiverRun International Film Festival has released a video interview with the actor who reveals his thoughts on Zod, the Christopher Reeve superman films, Snyder’s reboot storyline, and more. Also, he’s kind of odd.
Last month, we reported that Oscar nominee Michael Shannon was in the running to play General Zod (you know, the “KNEEL BEFORE ZOD” guy) in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, The Man of Steel. And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Shannon has been confirmed as Superman’s best non-Lex Luthor cinematic nemesis.
With Sucker Punch due out tomorrow, it’s no surprise that casting rumors and plot details are making heavy rounds for Zack Snyder‘s Superman: Man of Steel. As the film comes together two of the biggest questions are: what famous villain will be taking on Superman, and who will play him? Earlier today we heard word that Edgar Ramirez was in the running, and now it looks like Michael Shannon is as well. At least, so says Deadline Hollywood.

To me Take Shelter felt like a Raymond Chandler short story brought to the big screen — but not in an entirely successful or unsuccessful way. The film suffers from it’s length and repetitive nature, but also benefits from it. There were a number of interesting ideas raised in the film, stunning visuals, and great acting — so it’s hard not to respect. What I liked about it is also what bothers me which makes it almost impossible to form an actual opinion on it… but I’ll give it a go…
Everyone seems to have a sick obsession with professional hitmen these days. But not just any kind of hitmen, hitmen who work specifically for the mob (not free agents). Case in point, it was just announced that Michael Shannon will play the lead role in a drama called The Iceman, which is based on the actual life of a mob contract-killer named Richard Kuklinski. We’ve also learned that he’ll be joined my Benicio del Toro and James Franco.
“Boardwalk Empire” is just about ready to wrap up a successful first season and several of its characters are at a crossroads. Margaret needs to consider the principles she’s sacrificed, Nucky needs to admit to himself that he’s a true gangster, Van Alden needs to come to terms with his desires and even Al Capone needs to grow up a little. Last night’s episode wasn’t the most entertaining one we’ve had, but those various subplots definitely amplified the drama. Check out our review to see what we thought…

Gerard Butler will continue his assault on the action drama with his upcoming film, Machine Gun Preacher. The title makes it sound like a campy comic adaptation but its actually a fact-based drama. According to Deadline, Lionsgate has acquired the North American distribution rights to the film that will feature Butler in the starring role.
