The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, and Mila Kunis, finally hits theaters this weekend, and centers on a wanderer fighting to protect a book that he believes can save mankind. Peter Jackson’s film, The Lovely Bones, will also hit theaters and even though its gotten mixed reviews, visually it’s a very interesting. Michael Hoffman’s Leo Tolstoy biopic, The Last Station, starring Christopher Plummer, Helen Mirren, James McAvoy, and Paul Giamatti, will make its debut in a limited amount of theaters and again this movie has received fairly mixed reviews, but has an amazing cast.
If you find yourself in or around New York, the indie flick Fish Tank should be playing. Apparently, the performances by the leads Katie Jarvis and Michael Fassbender, are both very good and worth your time. And for those of you in Los Angeles, the New Beverly Cinema has a film festival running from January 15th to the 21st. There are all sorts of films being shown, including Amadeus and City of the Walking Dead. Plus, director Stuart Gordon will be on hand to help kick off the festivities this Friday.
Check out all the movies that come out on January 15, 2010…

Foregoing the AFI Fest Centerpiece Gala The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus last night in favor of a film far less likely to get a North American release, I went to see the Cannes Jury Prize-winner Fish Tank, the second film from already-acclaimed director Andrea Arnold (Red Road). It’s fortunate that Fish Tank is an excellent movie because otherwise I would have had a problem being objective.

Where has all the promotion for this movie gone? Over at Empire they’ve posted two new photos from the Neil Marshall film, Centurion. They appear in the latest issue of the magazine, that features Sam Worthington on the cover as Perseus from Clash of the Titans. The film has Gladiator and 300 written all over it, and with a cast led by Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds), what’s not to love?

Yesterday we gave you B.J. Novak and Mélanie Laurent and today we have another Basterd for you! This one speaks the Kings and looks dashing while doing it. Michael Fassbender, the new face taking Hollywood by storm, plays double agent, Archie Hilcox in Quentin Tarantino’s war epic Inglourious Basterds and boy does he make an impression. It’s easy to see why Josh Brolin made sure to give him a shout out at Comic-Con, he’s about to be huge.
Check back in later and we’ll also have interviews with Eli Roth (watch videos), Christoph Waltz, Diane Kruger, and of course, the captain of the ship, Tarantino, but until then, check out what Fassbender had to say about his role in the film below…

Although I could have talked to Michael Fassbender all day about his amazing performance in Inglourious Basterds, the subject of his upcoming film Jonah Hex of course came up in our round-table discussion. At Comic-Con, while everyone was asking Josh Brolin about his character, Brolin made sure to mention that Fassbender will surely be the scene-stealer of the film. We may not know him very well yet, but after Basterds, Hex, and his upcoming roles in Centurion, Birdsong, and possibly The Sweeney, we’re about to get to know him very well and if Broline has anything to say about it, we’ll all be blown away.
Check out what Fassbender had to say about creating his character “Burke” for the film Jonah Hex, his tattoos, weapon of choice and more below…
