Jodie Foster’s latest directorial project The Beaver has been hanging in limbo over the past year due to the personal scandal that’s surrounded its star Mel Gibson. Even though Summit Entertainment released the first trailer a week ago, a theatrical release was still unconfirmed but today we’ve learned that they’ve finally nailed down a date.
Over the weekend Summit Entertainment finally released the first trailer for Mel Gibson’s latest film, The Beaver. The movie has been held hostage in limbo for ages thanks to the unfortunate public scandals surrounding its star. Oh Mel Gibson, what are we going to do with you? The future of his latest film The Beaver has been floating in limbo due to his recent pr troubles. It’s kind of hard to sell Gibson as a headlining star these days but according to Deadline Summit plans on releasing the film in spring 2011. To kick start the marketing, they’ve released the first official photo of him and director/co-star Jodie Foster and they’ve announced the trailer premiere.
At the rate Mel Gibson’s career is going we’re not sure when his next movie The Beaver will hit theaters. It’s a dark comedy directed by Jodie Foster and co-stars Gibson as a man who uses a beaver puppet to communicate. The story was interesting and off the wall enough to get picked up by a studio, but because of the decline in the actor’s public appeal will it ever see the light of day?
Over the past couple of weeks, The Hangover 2 has been the center of attention for all the wrong reasons. The film has been overshadowed by a dark cloud brought upon us by Mel Gibson. The Oscar winner was set to do a cameo in the sequel but the cast and crew were against it causing director Todd Phillips to drop him. Rumors soon spread that Galifianakis was the main culprit, who caused Gibson to get tossed. Galifianakis recently appeared on an episode of “The Today Show” to promote his new film, Due Date and he addressed the speculation regarding his involvement.

The actor was confirmed to appear in Todd Phillips upcoming sequel The Hangover 2 for Warner Bros but according to Coming Soon, it’s not happening. Phillips has revealed that the Gibson cameo has been officially dropped.
Yesterday, there were rumors that Mel Gibson would attempt to breathe new life into his career by appearing in the sequel, The Hangover 2.
