Here are this weeks movie, TV, special edition and straight to DVD releases.
FEATURE FILMS
Max Payne
Starring: Mark Wahlberg
Remember when this movie came out? Yeah, didn’t think so. This movie was promoted heavily during the start of the NFL season and somehow almost beat The Dark Knight to DVD. So what was the problem? Well, it’s a video game movie – always a problem since they all suck. Secondly, it was based on a character that hasn’t been relevant for nearly a decade. It’s not like it was “Halo”.

They were hoping for over $22 million. And even with Wahlberg’s SNL stunt and rumors of it opening to $20 millions opening night, they only made it to $18 million. But it’s still number 1!

Well so far, it’s not looking good for Max Payne. All the hype in the world isn’t enough to win over film critics. They’re estimating $20 million at the box office for the weekend, which is good, but it’s no Tomb Raider (which opened to 47 million). But only time will tell what the masses think.
If you’re wondering if Max Payne is worth your time, here is your review round up of snippets that the critics thought about the movie.

Looks like it’s a pretty good weekend to go to the movies. Oliver Stone’s film W. is coming out just weeks before the election. I’m sure everyone will be talking about it, seems like no matter what this film will stir up some controversy. Always fun. Max Payne is the end of summer video game, gone movie with a ton of actions sequences hopefully held together by a comprehendable plot, but we’ll see! The Secret Lives of Bees has been getting a lot of buzz (pun intended), it will either be a sappy crier or just sappy. Bring your tissues and hope for the best. Morning Light is a good documentary, it’s only problems is that it has a limited release and it hard to find. As for, Sex Drive, the name says it all. Teenager with an overactive sex drive trying to hump his Internet girlfriend. What Just Happened? is good if you’re going for drinks after and if you live in LA. If you don’t, it’s a bit of an inside joke, but has it’s moment and tends to provoke interesting discussions.

Fuck all, except for the fact that they both have released exclusive clips! Aside from that I really can’t find any other connections. Personally, I like to wait for the movie, but I know many of you just can’t restrain yourself.
You only have a little over a week before the release of Max Payne, but just to keep your busy until then (I’m sure you have nothing better to do) you can watch Mark Wahlberg being a bad ass. Check out the exclusive film clip on Latino Review here.
And if you want to watch Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson in bed together (don’t worry Palin fans it won’t offend you – at least I don’t think it will) for the new film Soul Men, then check out this exclusive clip on comingsoon.net.
