It’s official! Over at Variety they are reporting that Ryan Reynolds has beat out Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake for the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming comic adaptation, Green Lantern. Yesterday and today has been filled with speculation over who will be the one to land the coveted role, and finally a decision has been made.

Some movies are unfortunately shrouded with problems, and it looks like Zack Snyder’s latest project is one of them. There were already several casting issues that had to be worked out for the all girl led Sucker Punch, and now it’s release date has been moved. I wonder if another movie he did this year has anything to do with this? Synder’s not the only one feeling the burn, director Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern comic book adaptation is also being shuffled. The film’s Christmas 2010 release date is no longer set in stone, and has been pushed back to 2011.

It looks as if someone’s decided to take a risk and invest in Mel Gibson’ s career again. Last November Gibson wrapped a project entitled Edge of Darkness, which he shot with Ray Winstone and Danny Huston. For months the film has been looking for a distribution home, and finally it’s found one. According to Variety, Warner Brothers has decided to take the plunge and has acquired the rights to the film. The feature is based on the BBC miniseries of the same name, which”centered on a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Dept, whose only child is murdered on the steps of his home.”

This past December we reported that the script for the DC Comics Green Lantern adaptation was still in development. A writer had been found in the form of Marc Guggenheim, who at the time was on his third draft of the film’s screenplay. Now things are officially underway, as a well known director is in negotiations to helm the project. According to Variety, Martin Campbell is in talks with Warner Brothers to direct the film that will be produced by Donald Deline and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti is also a co-writer of the Lantern script along with Guggenheim and Michael Green.
