Just like last week (and the week before that) our DVD choices are almost entirely dominated by television. This Tuesday, we take one more pass at preparing for the upcoming fall season (only three weeks until premiere week!) with another extensive selection of last season’s biggest shows.

Of course, there are a few movies hitting shelves, but Marmaduke and Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too? aren’t all that exciting.

“Sons of Anarchy”: Complete Second Season

Let me see if you’re in the same boat as me.

I was late to the party on SoA. I mentioned this and somebody very nicely bought me Season 1 on DVD for Christmas. I tore through it. Dug it. And couldn’t wait to get to Season 2 so I could catch up.

Then I realized: “Season 2 isn’t out yet! What am I thinking? They only put DVDs out like two weeks before the show comes back. What kind of a fool am I?”

But there’s another question that comes along with this: Why do they wait so long to put these DVDs out? Why do they only give you a tiny window to catch up on a series? Wouldn’t it make much more sense to release the DVD at the beginning of the summer. You know, when nothing else is on and maybe somebody thinks to themselves, “Gee, there’s nothing on, but I heard ‘Sons of Anarchy’ is a good show – I’ll catch up with that that.”

Nope, instead we’re forced to marathon the show over Labor Day to get ready for the premiere. So yes, that’s what I’ll be doing this three-day weekend.

A theatrical trailer has been released for the upcoming live action adaption of Marmaduke, and I feel guilty for saying this, but it’s hilarious. It’s funny in the campiest way imaginable. It stars Owen Wilson as the voice of the title character and Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies“) and Judy Greer as the couple he drives insane. Check out the slap stick comedy below…

In the film, Marmaduke navigates a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, he woos the purebred of his dreams, and overcomes a fall from grace. Greer, Pace, and William H. Macy play the humans, while Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans Jr. supply the voices. The film will be directed by Tom Dey and is scheduled for release on June 4th.

The beginning of the trailer with the family seems purposely corny. How many times are they going to scream Marmaduke’s name? At one point I expected Lee Pace to shake his fist in the air and say “Mar-ma-duke!!” Despite its obvious flaws, we’re looking at either a box office flop or a surprise hit. The voice actors alone are enough to draw some people in, Kiefer Sutherland’s playing a bad-ass Rottweiler in it. Do you know how dedicated his fans are?

A while ago, we brought you the cast list for the upcoming live action-animated feature Marmaduke. The popular comic strip that was based on the misadventures of a Great Dane will be brought to life with the same method used for Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield. According to Reuters, Owen Wilson has landed the role of the mischievous title character, and will lead the voice crew in the film.

The film sees Marmaduke navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace. Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. This may be a toss up for Fox, who is producing the film because today’s younger audience isn’t that familiar with the character of Marmaduke. Even if you were a kid of the nineties the character wasn’t really on your radar, so how do they expect it to fare for children today? Isn’t that the same issue we had with Garfield? And Alvin and the Chipmunks will always be a fluke in my eyes, I don’t understand how that movie became a success.

Marmaduke is a toss up between the previously mentioned properties, so will nostalgia be enough to make it a box office hit or will it depend on the sly vocals of Owen Wilson to carry it over?

I vaguely remember reading an article about the upcoming animated feature Marmaduke. The film is based on the popular comic strip character of the same name that was originally created by Brad Anderson. The film will be a mix of CGI and live action following in the footsteps of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield. The newly announced cast features everyone from a British comedian to a Black Eye Pea, find out who’ll be behind the scenes of Marmaduke.

I’m not really surprised by Fergie’s casting in this film because she has a history of voice work as a child actor. She used to do one of the voices on Charlie Brown. I think the one thing we want to know is, who’s going to play Marmaduke? The character isn’t even mentioned.

“The original comic strip for the character was about a family and their Great Dane has been published fairly regularly since 1954, and it spawned a series of cartoons in 1980.”
