Well, Mad Men fans, it’s been over a year, but your wait is finally over—MM is finally back, having launched its fifth season premiere on Sunday night, a slow-moving, two-hour episode that eased us back into the world of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.  “A Little Kiss” takes us to Memorial Day 1966, wherein two collisions occur in this double-sized episode: that of the civil rights movement and the universe of SCDP, and the disastrous meeting of Don Draper’s personal and professional lives.  Check out our full review below.

This week the Academy added The Muppets and Cirque du Soleil to its Oscars telecast. We’ll have the chance to see acrobatic dancers perform, and best of all, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. There’s been a deluge of Mad Men news of late—between AMC forcing the show’s fifth season into production with or without creator Matthew Weiner to Weiner and AMC finally coming to a compromise concerning product placement and episode length, it’s been a rollercoaster of a month for Mad Men fans.  And now, there comes a bit of payoff for all of the stress—Mad Men is coming to Netflix Instant.

Well, knock back a scotch and loosen that tie a little bit, Mad Man fans, as it’s time to rejoice—the protracted contractual bickering between Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and the AMC network have come to an end.

We recently reported that negotiations had stalled over the fact that AMC wanted two minutes cut from each episode to allow more commercial time, wanted more product placement in the show, and insisted that two regular characters be cut to save money.  Essentially, every bad decision a network could possibly make when trying to meddle with something that was already perfect and insanely popular in an effort to squeeze just a little more money out of the situation.

Everybody’s favorite arthouse Blockbuster hits shelves this week as Natalie Portman’s oscar-winning role in Black Swan dances its way onto DVD. But that’s not all for the art film set. There are two movie so tiny, that you may not even know they exist. Or, you could just enjoy Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the kiddie hit Tangled. It’s all for the laser-aided spinning.

But it’s not just movies this week. Finally, we get the return of TV on DVD with HBO’s Treme and AMC’s Mad Men bringing the cable heat.

All that, plus a movie I’m pretty sure Hilary Swank wished didn’t exist.

As the battle between Mad Men creator/ showrunner Mathew Weiner and AMC continues—AMC wants Weiner to agree to “integrating product placement into the series, cutting 2 minutes from each episode’s running time in favor of more commercials and eliminating/reducing two regular cast members to save money,” according to Deadline, while Weiner is taking the opposite, ‘why don’t you pay me $30 million over the next two years to make creative/ business decisions that ensure the show doesn’t suck,’ stance—AMC is skipping over Weiner by exercising a contractual option with Lionsgate TV to launch season five of the series in early 2012.
