If there’s one thing to say about M. Night Shyamalan‘s career, he’s failed up. Columbia Pictures announced today that Will Smith – the biggest and perhaps only real movie star left in America – will team with Shyamalan to produce and star in a science-fiction film. Also starring: Smith’s son Jaden. Jaden had been rumored for the script before - and the project is currently known as One Thousand AE, but Will Smith’s presence takes this to a new level.

M. Night Shyamalan The Happening 2 7 10 kc Mark Walhberg Admits That The Happening Sucked

Over the past few years, M.Night Shyamalan has been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh reviews. Ever since his acclaimed 1999 debut The Sixth Sense he’s gone downhill. We even tracked his progression or should we say “regression” over the past decade and out of all of his films one stands out as the worst…The Happening! The movie starred Mark Wahlberg and over the weekend, while out promoting his latest project The Fighter the actor admitted to the world what we’ve known all along. The Happening f*cking sucked!

After the success of last summer’s The Karate Kid, Jaden Smith’s career has been on the rise so why would he want to risk it by getting involved with M. Night Shyamalan? According to EW, Smith is in talks with The Last Airbender director to star in an upcoming project, which is more than likely the science fiction flick 1000 A.E.

LastAirbenderDVDMainALP11 15 10 New DVD Releases: A Christmas Carol, The Kids Are All Right, The Last Airbender

Here’s the bad news: There is absolutely no TV on DVD being released this week. None whatsoever. Well, at least none of note (something tells me Season 5 of Perry Mason doesn’t really resonate with the Internet crowd) so there will be no section on the small screen for maybe the first time in the history of this column.

The good news: There is a TON of new feature films being released this week. Everything you could want from indie critical darling of The Kids Are All Right to the disappointing “3-D” blockbuster attempt of The Last Airbender and all points in between.

So we’re blowing up the format this week with a blurb about the eight feature films being released this week. And, don’t worry, we didn’t forget about informing you of that one little nugget of DVD badness either.

Check it out below…

VOTD: M. Night Shyamalan Parodies Devil With Escalation

Escalation M. Night Shyamalan 26 8 10 kc VOTD: M. Night Shyamalan Parodies Devil With Escalation

M Night Shyamalan has been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh words via critics and movie goers alike. His last film, The Last Airbender was a mess, and prior to that The Happening wasn’t exactly a fan favorite. At this year’s Comic-Con they showed the trailer for the latest film he’s producing called Devil, and the audience reacted with boos, laughter, and groans. Not good. Word must have spread to him because he’s trying to get back on our good side — through comedy.

He recently shot a parody trailer featuring Stephen Lang from Avatar and MTV correspondent Josh Horowitz that intercuts footage from Devil. Instead of it being about a group of people trapped in an elevator, they’re trapped on an escalator. Take a look…

First Trailer for Devil – Story By M. Night Shyamalan

devil7 10 10 First Trailer for Devil Story By M. Night Shyamalan

You got with with a tittle like Devil and the tagline “Bad things happen for a reason…” but you completely lose me when I hear “From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan.” Though he did not direct this film, newcomer John Erick Dowdle does, nor write it, Brian Nelson has him covered there… it’s still from HIS mind. Shyamalan came up with the idea for the film and is one of the producers. I will say that the man does have good ideas, he just should never be allowed to write a screenplay again. Maybe they’ve finally found the answer! Let him have an idea and then take it and make it interesting?

All that we know about it is that it “is a supernatural thriller with M. Night Shyamalan’s signature touch.” I hope by touch they don’t mean ability to destroy a seemingly good idea with nonsense and horrible dialogue.

Watch the trailer and lets discuss…

M.Night Shyamalan: Past, Present, and Future – Will The Last Airbender Make It?

m. night shyamalan2 M.Night Shyamalan: Past, Present, and Future Will The Last Airbender Make It?

M. Night Shyamalan with a camera is like a kid in a grown-up’s body. He’s megalomaniacal, but in a sincerely nice way. He’s made a notorious habit out of making films with twist endings because that’s the way he keeps you on a leash – he throws one final curveball that knocks you off your lid. You might like it (The Sixth Sense), and you might not (The Village). But either way, your forced to admit when all is said and done that you just drank his psychological Kool-Aid.

the last airbender LA 3 26 10 The Last Airbender: Movie Review

After months of bad press and racebending rants M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film The Last Airbender is about to hit theaters. It’s based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” that was created by Americans who were inspired by anime. The show was popular with both critics and fans alike but unfortunately the live-action adaptation doesn’t deserve such praise. Not only did Shyamalan direct but he also wrote the screenplay for the film that suffers from many problems that go beyond its questionable casting.

M. Night Shyamalan always goes for the dramatic both behind and in front of the camera, so we’re not surprised that his latest project is being kept under lock and key. According to THR, the director has a new film in development and it has several Hollywood actors set to co-star including a previous Oscar winner.
