This is very serendipitous week on DVD. Because in the wake of Tuesday’s Oscar nominees, this week’s DVD releases give us a chance to analyze the contenders…that missed out on nominations. Yes, this week’s release calendar is filled with those movies that, in March, look like this year’s batch of Awards contenders but never quite fit the bill and end up as the prestige pictures that didn’t get any prestige.

So let’s take a look at what went wrong. Plus, as  a bonus, two insane sequels that you probably had no idea existed! Check it all out below…

Matt Reeves 1-1 Interview for Let Me In

matt reeves9 29 10 Matt Reeves 1 1 Interview for Let Me In

Before you stone the man for remaking a great film, give him a chance. I was also one of “those people” who loved the first film and didn’t think it should be remade and while talking over the phone to the director of the film, Matt Reeves, I found comfort in the fact that he felt the same way when approaching Let Me In. He knows how great Tomas Alfredson’s film-adaptation of Let the Right One In, but he also knows that the writer of the original novel, John Ajvide Lindqvist has written something so rich that it was worth going back into and reinventing again for both audiences that were possibly too afraid of subtitles to enter the theater the first time around and those who loved the original.

Check out our one on one interview with Reeves and find out how he convinced himself that the film was worth making and then how he succeeded in making a solid American-version of the film below…

let me in9 29 10 d Let Me In: Movie Review

For those of you who were fans of Let the Right One In and are still in shock that they could ever remake such a masterpiece… keep reading. If you’re one of those people who wouldn’t see it because it had subtitles, jump to the next paragraph. I hate to admit this because I was one of those people scoffing at the remake BUT when I found out director Matt Reeves had a similar response when presented with the projected, my mind was slightly eased and I was intrigued once again. The when I saw the film, even I had to admit he did a successful job at newly re-imagining the novel and drawing your attention to certain things that weren’t in the original film.

For those of you who are Let Me In virgins, you’re in for a real treat. You’re about to be introduced to two of the most interesting characters ever brought to the big screen and this time, you won’t have to “struggle” (my god people it’s not that bad!) to keep up with the subtitles.

Reeves in a way accomplished the impossible – pleasing both parties – but has he made the better film? Find out below…
