funnypeople09 2 20 Funny People: Movie Review

This weekend we get Judd Apatow’s new star-studded comedy Funny People with Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Eric Bana, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, and Jason Schwartzman. The film makes fun of the people in it, as much as it makes fun of itself and is by far one of the smartest comedies in theaters right now.

Check out the good, the bad, and the plot below…

lizbanks Elizabeth Banks Joins What Was I Thinking

Two of my favorite comedic actresses Elizabeth Banks and Leslie Mann will join each other on the big screen in the upcoming film,  What Was I Thinking? According to THR, both actresses are attached to headline the film which is based on the book of the same name. The book What Was I Thinking is a compilation of 58 boyfriend horror stories that were assembled by Barbara Davilman and Liz Dubelman.

New Funny People Trailer Shows Promise

funnypeople09 2 20 New Funny People Trailer Shows Promise

I was a little worried about this film but after watching this trailer I think there is hope. Not because of the “I’m dying” plot line, but because they are making Eric Bana and not Adam Sandler the comic relief. I prefer serious Sandler, he’s more funny. It seems like they’re not trying to force humor onto us. They’ve given us a simple pitch, with some subtle humor, that looks like it has a lot of promise. Judd Apatow at his finest. What I love about Apatow’s films is that his trailers are always only 50% of what his films will be because A. He saves the best moments for the movie and B. By staying true to life, punchlines come from long build ups, not catch phrases. So with this solid trailer and an amazing cast including Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, and Jason Schwartzman, it sounds like this is going to be another hit.

TRAILER: I Love You Phillip Morse

Thursday, December 4, 2008 8:35PM - By Mali Elfman

OK. I’ve heard about this film. About the passionate sex scenes and the great acting, but this trailer sure as hell doesn’t really show much promise. It looks a cheesy romantic comedy. Adding a homosexual “edge” does not make it any better. I will say I am interested in seeing Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor’s chemistry though. But, with directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa), maybe it’s just one of those movies that you have to see and that a trailer will never properly be able to represent.
