What? Zack Snyder isn’t doing a movie filled with graphic sex and violence? Yes, the director of 300 and Watchmen has taken a step into the family friendly genre of animation with his latest film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. The film is based on the children’s books of the same name that were written by Kathryn Lasky. Not only is he stepping into new territory by doing a family film, but Legend of the Guardians also marks his first encounter with 3D.
Unlike a lot of filmmakers, Snyder didn’t sign on to do a 3D movie just because it’s “all the rage.” He did it because he thought the story would genuinely be better if it was told in the format. When the director appeared at the Los Angeles press day for the film he spoke about the challenges he encountered making Legend of the Guardians, and his inspiration for buckling down and doing a kids movie. This morning Zack Snyder and the cast and crew of his latest film, Legend of the Guardians: The Owl’s of Ga’hoole attended a media junket in Los Angeles. One of the major topics that continued to pop up during the press conference was 3D. Legend of the Guardians wasn’t converted in post, it was shot in 3D from day one, but that doesn’t mean that Snyder didn’t take some creative and technological liberties. According to him Guardians broke all the 3D production rules — yet the film still looks amazing!

Eight new posters have been released for Zack Snyder’s upcoming 3D animated epic Legend of the Guardians The Owls of Ga’Hoole. The film is scheduled to hit theaters this fall on September 24th and Warner Bros has really started to amp up its marketing campaign. Earlier today, we brought you the first photos from Zack Snyder’s animated 3D feature Legend of the Guardians and now the teaser trailer has dropped. This is a big deal considering it wasn’t supposed to officially debut until tomorrow with Alice in Wonderland. I guess Warner Bros said screw that and decided to release it a day earlier.
