After screening at Venice Film Festival, Steve McQueen‘s Shame got picked up by a legitimate studio, while the rights of the longest-running comic book series were sold to the production company behind the Resident Evil series. Unlike Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, The Hangover: Part II woke up in a very pleasant place this morning — at the top of the box office. On opening night, the Warner Brothers picture grossed a record breaking $31.6 million, making it the highest opening for an R-rated film. Today, The Hangover: Part II has gone above and beyond ($118 million) its budget ($80 million), making us wonder if executives are already conjuring up a third sequel. Another sequel this weekend was the lovely Kung Fu Panda 2, which we thought would be No. 1. We were very wrong. In 2008 we got the cute and funny cartoon Kung Fu Panda, featuring the voice of Jack Black. Three years later, our panda Po is still overweight, but doing what he loves and so hilariously fought for in part one — being the legendary Dragon Warrior. The sequel still has its tasty tray of A-list Hollywood voices (Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman) and this time around we also get Gary Oldman. We also get more heart and soul and less laughs, which for me, was a good thing!
