Lionsgate Wants more Twilight

In an interview with the LA Times, Jon Feltheimer – the CEO of Lionsgate – talked about his plans for the Twilight franchise now that his company owns the rights. Those plans seem to be to milk it for every cent that it’s worth through spin-offs. Whether that’s on television, or additional sequels, it’s hard to say as Feltheimer basically says he knows that a blockbuster series isn’t finished until audiences are sick of them.

Much of the future of this will rest on Stephenie Meyer, and what she’s going to write or be involved with. Surely if the check is there, she will gladly let other people play in her universe. Perhaps they will go on a spin-off route and follow some of the minor characters. Both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart seem to relieved to be done with the franchise, but many of the supporting players would love to have a steady gig – though someone like Jackson Rathbone can already make a living through Twilight convention appearances and signings.

Having watched Abduction over the weekend, it seems the only way Taylor Lautner will keep working is through the Twilight franchise. Perhaps he and his werewolf friends could have a side adventure. If more of his other projects don’t pan out, he seems the most likely to return, and the easiest to spin off.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1: Review

Though The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 doesn’t feature the wrap up of the series, it does get to something the series has been building to since day one: Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) finally putting their desires to bed. And for the couple it is literally a bed-breaking event, one that leads to pregnancy. As a film Breaking Dawn Part 1 classes up the joint by adding Oscar winning writer-director Bill Condon to the mix, but for those hoping for something that might rise above the material, they’re going to be sorely disappointed. For the fans, it’s likely everything they want.

The Plot:

It’s time. Bella (Stewart) and “Team” Edward Cullen (Pattinson) are tying the knot so she can finally become a part of the Cullen family. “Team” Jacob (Lautner) wants no part of it, but decides to make a late appearance anyway. His clan is still upset with the Cullens, but currently they have a fragile peace. Edward and Bella go on an exotic honeymoon, and finally couple in an event that leaves her bruised and the bed broken. But as she feels weird, it becomes apparent that Bella is now pregnant with a vampire baby.

Full Disclosure:

I have only seen the first two films and haven’t read the books.

The Good:

Slightly Better: The jokes are funnier, the acting’s a little less stiff, and they managed to have the shortest running time of series. It has the more polished tone of the later films, but with the fun (and some of the camp) of the first film. The wedding sequence has some great little zings and jags – with Anna Kendrick having a number of funny moments.
They Go There: I have heard about imprinting and the more daffy elements of the narrative beforehand, and they’re in there, and it’s just as strange and messed up as I was led to believe. I wish it was R-rated (few films this obsessed with blood and sex are not), but that was never going to happen. Still, it’s weird.

The Bad:

Telenovela: At this point in the narrative, there’s not a lot of drama, and the drama in the film probably means more to the faithful. I guess there’s another war brewing between vampires factions and werewolves, but it’s a minor section of the film. Instead, a good chunk of the film is dedicated to a wedding and a honeymoon. There’s nothing going on under the surface of these things, and when Edward confesses that he once killed people Bella says it’s no big deal and then it never comes up again. And then Bella gets pregnant, and it’s all about waiting for her to give birth (abortion is mentioned, quickly dismissed). Much like the other broken-up book of the last couple (Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows), it feels more like a collection of scenes than a film. And so you wait for Bella to come to term so something happens, because every time Jacob and his crew get antsy it gets resolved quickly.
If You Don’t Know Me By Now: Where a number of franchises make it easy to drop in on later chapters with relative ease (There are Aliens in outer space, Harry Potter’s in school), but with Twlight at this point the mythology is established and the audience is there. Nothing about Breaking Dawn is going to matter much to those who aren’t in for the ride. It’s just for the fans, and only for them.
Not for You: And to that point, this doesn’t really function as a film. The performers are never bad per se (even Taylor Lautner – once the hot property – who has probably 86′d his chances of too much work outside Twilight after Abduction), but there are no arcs. The same could be said for the film. Not even the pregnancy is used as a device. This is a filmed book. And what appears to be not a very good one, that covers half of a narrative, which would be about one and a half of a three act structure. When the film hits its conclusion, it doesn’t feel like a cliffhanger, as all tension is resolved from the incident itself.

Overall:

I guess this is functionally better than the previous films in terms of having scale and better quality of most everything, but this is a movie for people who already care. As an outsider it was dull, but relatively painless, sometimes insane and occasionally interesting, but only to a point.

Rating: 4.5/10

Holy Renesmee! Kristen Stewart May Somehow Make The ‘Akira’ Remake Even Blander

Earlier this month, we reported that Akira, a visceral, mind-bending anime about futuristic Japanese motorcycle thugs is being remade as a live-action American film. Unfortunately, it’ll be directed by the guy who helmed Paris Hilton’s House of Wax and will star Tron: Legacy‘s Garrett Hedlund as Kaneda (a 15-year-old Asian boy in the original). Now, we can add Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart to the list, as she’s been offered the role of Kei, Kaneda’s love interest. Oh, great.

Since the Akira remake isn’t already whitewashed enough, Warner Bros’ is adding Kristen Stewart for good measure. The young actress may take the lead female role in the film because thus far, it doesn’t have enough sleepy-eyed actors delivering numb and blank performances. Both Stewart and Hedlund are known for mimicking those things real people call “emotions.”

It’s a casting move that makes a fair amount of sense, as her name will draw a gigantic swarm of tween fans. They’re exactly the type of audience the remake seems to be aimed at. The casting announcement was conveniently released the same week The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I opens in theaters. Coincidence? We think not!

Two New Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 TV spots

Kristen Stewart‘s Bella and Robert Pattinson‘s Team Edward are getting married! That much is certain, and it seems they enjoy a night of conjugal pleasures which have unexpected consequences that upset Taylor Lautner‘s Team Jacob. How much and when the divide of Bill Condon‘s Twilight: Breaking Dawn happens is not spelled out, but it looks like in this one we’re definitely getting to see the couple consummate their love. Part 1 opens November 18, and there’s two new TV spots. Check them out….

The first spot is called “Event”:

They’ve been building on the same images, many of which seem rather suggestive. I mean Pattinson is destroying that headboard, and though perhaps girls of a certain age have no concept of what he’s doing, that looks like some pretty intense sexxing.It must be, it gets Bella pregnant, stat.

The fourth book was the least appreciated by fans, but I think at this point (much like with the books) the Twi-Hards are in for the ride. Ironically with the placement of Bill Condon at the helm of the picture, the worst reviewed book will likely have the best reviewed movies. Regardless, the rabid fanbase is going to eat this up.

New Photos and Synopsis for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

With the release date of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 closing in on us, Summit Entertainment has sent over nine images and a new synopsis. Like seen in the photo aboce, the first part of this conclusion will take us through the romantic marriage of Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart). Academy Award winning screenwriter Bill Condon directed both part 1 and 2 of Breaking Dawn; the latter is schedule to conclude on November 16, 2012.

Those of us who are fanatics of the books and film franchise will know exactly what to expect in the first-half of Breaking Dawn, story-wise. As for us, we suspect, Part 1 is going to cover Edward and Bella’s blissful marriage as they go on their honeymoon and get news that there’s a baby on the way. Here’s the new Official synopsis for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1:

The highly anticipated fourth installment of The Twilight Saga, directed by Academy Award® winner Bill Condon, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 reveals the mysteries of this romantic epic that has entranced millions.

In March, some Breaking Dawn set photos were leaked, and people got a sneak of Edward and Bella’s sex scene, as well as one honeymoon scene photo. Summit took immediate action by requesting the photos to be removed, and launched an investigation to find out who the culprit was.

Now, three months before the release of Breaking Dawn Part 1, Summit has decided to share their official set photos. Below you can see photos of Bella and Edward enjoying their married life, Bella finding out she’s pregnant and the two on a speed boat, possibly during their honeymoon (or maybe they are being chased by evil vampires)? Regardless, the photos make the film look mellow. Mostly we see Bella and Edward smiling, without a hint of worry in their eyes. It seems like all the action is being saved for Breaking Dawn Part 2. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 will hit theaters later this year on November 18th.

Breaking Dawn Trailer Delivers Wedding Invitation

So it’s down to this. At the MTV movie awards (or as it’s become… the Twilight movie awards) the new trailer for Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiered. Reactions around the web are going to be intensely partisan (witness the hysterics!), but – as it is no secret to those who’ve read the book - the fourth entry in the franchise has Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) getting married (which doesn’t make Taylor Lautner‘s Jacob all too happy). Now there’s a trailer. It features bed-breaking-sex. No, really…

It’s easy to kick the wheels on this franchise, but it’s worth noting that Oscar winner Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters) is the director and as an award winning screenwriter, he likely had a lot of input on this film. Not to knock on any of the previous directors, but Condon’s the most accomplished and respected.

At the same time, the trailer features a shot of the martial bed being broke. This sort of heightened passion is a bit much for the PG-13 franchise, but that’s exciting. For those who’ve read the books or the summaries, the original story goes in some… interesting directions, regarding sex acts and pregnancies, and C-sections, and imprinting. As a film fan, I would love Condon to take this to some sort of Douglas Sirk level of intensity, real melodrama, which seems one of the core appeals of the material.The first opens in November, 2011, the second half comes in the fall of 2012.

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

First Photos: Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund in On the Road

Several new photos from Walter Salles feature adaptation of On The Road have surfaced online. They include shots of the director and stars Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund. When we spoke to Hedlund during the press junket for Country Strong, he had nothing but positive things to say about his experience working on the film, and now we get to see some of what he was talking about. Take a look…

The film officially wrapped principal photography on December 11, but a final release date hasn’t been announced. The production spanned six months and proved to be a bonding experience for all the actors involved. According to Hedlund,

“It was a guerrilla shoot with the most incredible family. Walter Salles directed it and he’s put so much work into this film over the last six or seven years. I’ve been attached since September of ‘07 trying to get this project made. Being on set during the first day like, ‘we’re fucking filming On the Road‘ to today’s the day after we just finished it. It was unfortunate to part with a family you’ve come to love so immensely on this journey.”

Judging from these photos, everyone looks like they had a good time.

Kristen Stewart Up For Snow White and the Huntsman?

Kristen Stewart may have found her first major post-Twilight role with Snow White and the Huntsman. The film is a darker take on the classic children’s tale that will feature the Huntsman as a co-headliner instead of a small, supporting character. According to Deadline, the actress has become a frontrunner to play the young, damsel in distress.

The studio has been testing various actresses for the part, and Stewart is leading the pack.

The new take sees an expanded role for the Huntsman - in the fairy tale, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go – and according to sources the two are chained together for part of the movie as they make their escape. And no, the Huntsman is not a love interest for our leading lady, the prince is very much in the picture. Instead, he acts like a mentor and teaches the young woman how to fight and survive.

Many actors have been rumored for the part of the Huntsman including Johnny Depp, Tom Hardy, and Michael Fassbender. The latter has just signed on for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus so he’s out of the picture, and Depp’s schedule is always packed so that’s a long shot.

As for the possibility of Stewart in this role, we don’t think she’s a bad actress, but she does have mannerisms that often distract from her performance. Could we really see her as Snow White?

Edward and Bella are getting in on! In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, they’ve published an exclusive photo from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn that features Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in an intimate position. The duo’s alter-egos will finally give in to their passion while on their honeymoon in the latest installment of the series and we’ve got the photo to prove it. Check out the full image below…

This photo is obviously a lot more explicit and to the point than the feathery one director Bill Condon released two months ago. Condon told EW that Edward and Bella’s physical union “is one of the most anticipated scenes.” He continued, “I spent a tremendous amount of time thinking about it. The anticipation is part of it and you want to play with what people expect and maybe subvert it a little and surprise them.”

We’re having a hard time figuring out what’s going on in the photo. Bella looks asleep, but she has her hand up to Edward’s face. He looks like he’s watching her (as usual) and maybe caressing her head. We’re sure it’s a lot more romantic in live action. At the moment she looks like a corpse, and there’s nothing sexy about that.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I will hit theaters on November 18, 2011 and Part II on November 16, 2012.

Bootleg Footage of Twilight Breaking Dawn Honeymoon Scene Online

Over Thanksgiving break, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon released the first official photo from the movie. It featured Bella’s limp arm laying on a bed, with feathers surrounding it. It was a nod to the post-sex scene that takes place in the book and the film and it had fans in a tizzy. If you thought that was awesome, some bootleg footage has popped up online that features Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) on their honeymoon on the beach getting hot and heavy.

The footage was shot in Brazil where their long awaited honeymoon takes place. There’s a shot of Edward speaking to Bella while kneeling down that also features them sharing a kiss, while Bella wears a blue sweater over a swimsuit and Edward sports a tank top and some shorts. Why does the image of him wearing that throw us for a loop? Edward, dressing like a normal teenager just seems weird.

Production on the final installment of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is well underway and photos of the two primary characters, Edward and Bella, have surfaced online. The international paparazzi have set up shop in South America to document every behind the scenes moment between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart while filming. Check out the rest of the photos and tell us what you think…

Apparently, the cast and crew of Breaking Dawn are in Brazil to shoot three important scenes: “an airport scene where Bella and Edward arrive in Brazil, a taxi cab scene that brings them to a marina and then a boat scene where Edward drives Bella to Isle Esme, their honeymoon destination.” From the looks of these photos Bella definitely appears to have grown up. No more hoodies and T-shirts for her, check out that dress!

Official Synopsis:

After their wedding, Bella and Edward travel to Rio de Janeiro for their honeymoon, where they finally give in to their passions. Bella soon discovers she is pregnant, and during a nearly fatal childbirth, Edward finally fulfills her wish to become immortal.

Kristen Stewart and More Fight for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Role

If you’re an A-list actress in Hollywood the name to have is Lisbeth Salander – she is the lead character in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which all of the young, female A-listers are hoping for a chance at. The film which is based off the Stieg Larsson’s book “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and its two “Millennium Trilogy” follow-ups — “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” and is currently in pre-production with none other than Producer Scott Rudin and directed by David Fincher. Not too shabby.

Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman and now Kristen Stewart have all expressed interest in starring as Lisbeth in the adaptation of the Swedish thriller, which was already successfully adapted by Danish director Niels Arden Oplev. The word on the street (or on MTV) is that they are expecting to wrap casting on the film very soon. It has also been rumored that Daniel Craig has been up for the other lead role in the film but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

MTV News spoke to Stewart about fighting for the role on the red-carpet for Eclipse. Stewart seems to be interested in the role, but is also busy during the time of the shoot.

“I think I’m going to be working,” Stewart said. “I’m booked for, like, the next six months, but it’s an incredible project. I hope someone really cool does it, because I can’t wait to see it. But I don’t know if it’s going to be me.”

Sounds to me like she’s playing it smart and not getting her hopes to high, especially while Twilight still has her firm in its grasps. Stewart definitely played it cool and said she hasn’t even met with Fincher “I’m working, and he’s really busy…Who knows? Movies push all the time.”

Sound like we’ll just have to wait for the announcement! Stewart seems like a good pick for the role, but my money’s on Portman or new comer Mulligan.
