Kathy Bates Joins ‘Two And A Half Men’ To Play Charlie Sheen’s Ghost (Really)

Because it’s a necessary and organic plot development that in no way is trying to exploit the controversy generated by its former star, Two and a Half Men will feature an upcoming storyline in which the ghost of Charlie Sheen’s character (who was killed off to explain Sheen’s termination from the program), returns to haunt the remaining 1.5 men, as well as his replacement, Ashton Kutcher. And no, Sheen will not be playing his famous character—Kathy Bates will be.

In the episode, which will air on April 30, features Jon Cryer’s character suffering a minor heart attack and ending up in a hospital, where he is visited by the ghost of Charlie Sheen’s character. Apparently, the storyline will revolve around how, in the afterlife, our souls are transformed into large older women who were really great in Misery and About Schmidt. Or it’s just a cheap cash-in on the Charlie Sheen controversy/memes, which only makes the show about a year late in terms of jumping on the bandwagon.

Still, anything is better than actually having to listen to Charlie Sheen being back on television, right? One more “Winning!” or “tiger blood” might cause me to have an aneurism, and I’m just not ready to hit the light at the end of the tunnel and turn into Kathy Bates just yet.

Midnight in Paris: Movie Review

Woody Allen‘s highly mysterious (and rightfully so) film Midnight in Paris has made its way back from Cannes and will be appearing in theaters in America this weekend. For me, this is one of my favorite Woody Allen films in a long time. It’s not necessarily what you would expect from Allen, though it does follow certain patterns we’ve come to know from him and one can definitely see references to his earlier work. There’s something both nostalgic and yet fresh about the film that makes it fun to watch. It’s finely made, finely acted and overall a fine picture to find yourself at this weekend…

The Plot:

Mightnight in Paris is romantic comedy with a twist (that will not be given away in this review). The film starts with a couple traveling to the French capital for business and their different reactions to the world around them. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better.

The Good:

The Acting: For me Corey Stoll who plays Ernest (no need for a last name here) steals the show. He does a fantastic job of bringing his character to life in a fun and lively way. Wilson is one of Allen’s best leads in a while, mainly because he’s so NOT Woody Allen like. His laid back persona allows you to watch a Woody Allen film without watching Woody Allen. Michael Sheen, brilliant as an American playing an anglophile. Alison Pill, Kathy Bates, Tom Hiddleston (I’m just listing the cast now) and all the rest all gave wonderful and surprising performances.
The Concept: Without giving anything away, it’s a bit far-fetched and not something entirely new, but the way that Allen handles the idea with such a nonchalance is really quite fun.
The Scenery: Allen and his cinematographer Darius Khondji really do an amazing job of capturing the feel, almost the smell of Paris in the spring time. They take their time establishing the location, light the scenes in a way that makes everyone and everything glow, and use some classic music to help you take it all in. Really well done.

The So-So:

Not Broad: This is not a film for everyone, and without giving too much away, you need to have a certain amount of knowledge of art history and literature and desire to know more about it in order to really find the film amusing. If you’re a nerd like me, it’s a blast and really fun to see so many well known faces, as well known names on the big screen.
Allen Cliches: It’s hard not to see patterns repeating themselves, it’s up to you whether you see that as good or bad. I for one didn’t mind them, in fact I rather enjoyed them, others may easily have a different opinion and one I can understand, just not relate to.

Overall:

This was a really interesting film and if you have any knowledge of literature or art your will definitely appreciate the references and find it humorous. It’s one of Allen’s better films of late, it’s extremely well made and the acting is superb. It was really a pleasant, fun experience to sit down to, and one well worth watching,

Kathy Bates and Harry’s Law Get Off to A Fine Start

On Monday night, Kathy Bates returned to television and it had nothing to do with NBC’s “The Office.” The Oscar winning actress is headlining her own series called “Harry’s Law” about a sassy, no-nonsense lawyer who likes things done her way. Think of her as Judge Judy, but on the opposite side of the table. The ratings have come in and the people have spoken. “Harry’s Law” is — OK.

According to EW, “Law” brought in “a healthy 11 million viewers, but it earned a mere 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.” Compared to other NBC programs that have occupied the same time slot, it did OK for itself. Last fall, “Chase,” averaged only a 1.5 rating when it occupied the same timeslot. Overall, the show came in second place for the 10 pm hour, and it beat its lead-in “The Cape,” which only brought in 6.2 million viewers.

Speaking of “The Cape,” the drama suffered a huge dip in the ratings. It dropped 31% from last Sunday’s premiere, which is dangerous. Perhaps they need to ditch some the late-nineties WB writing and get a little more contemporary. We like the premise but “The Cape” would have fared much better if it was released 10 years ago and was sandwiched between an episode of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and “Smallville.”

Today legendary director Woody Allen finally decided to reveal the full cast for his upcoming mystery project, Midnight in Paris. In the past we’ve picked up on one or two actors like Marion Cotillard and Owen Wilson and now we’ve learned that Oscar winner Adrien Brody has joined the film. Here’s the complete cast list along with a brief synopsis…

The Synopsis:

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS is a romantic comedy that follows a family travelling to the city for business. The party includes a young engaged couple that has their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.

The film stars Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Owen Wilson, Nina Arianda, Kurt Fuller, Tom Hiddleston, Mimi Kennedy, Alison Pill and Corey Stoll.

Production on Midnight in Paris begins this summer in you guessed it…France! Out of this bunch of actors we’re mostly interested in seeing Tom Hiddleston because he’ll be playing the main villain in Marvel’s Thor next year. We want to see what he’s got!

Woody Allen Reveals Cast and Details of Midight of Paris

Woody’s at it again! The man just won’t quit! Especially when he’s signed into a three part deal with Allen’s Gravier Productions and Mediapro, the Spain-based company which also funded Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the upcoming You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger which will be released later this tear by Sony.

Today Woody Allen revealed the details and cast of his upcoming film that he’s beginning pre-production on titled Midnight in Paris starring the dynamic, star-studded cast of Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates and Carla Bruni. Also in the cast are Michael Sheen, Nina Arianda, Tom Hiddleston, Corey Stoll, Mimi Kennedy and Kurt Fuller. The film shoots this summer in Paris. Sounds like fun!

Synopsis:

Sounds more like Whatever Works, but with travel! Why not spend some time in Paris and shoot a film with a million amazing actors!

It’s the planet or mankind. Someones gotta go. AWESOME. For those of you living under a rock, this film is a remake of the 1951 classic. Although this one’s special effects will completely outdo the older films, it’s always worth watching a classic before the remake. The films stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, and Kathy Bates. I LOVE that they went with Kathy Bates for this role. It’s like they wanted real actors or something.

Woo. This is pretty cool. Yahoo! Movies has just released a new 5-min. extended international trailer for the sci-fi classic remake The Day The Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, and Kathy Bates. I have to say, I wasn’t too excited about this film. The 1951 film was a classic, and I think classic should be left alone. But this trailer looks pretty f-ing cool.
