Katherine Heigl in One for the Money Trailer

For a brief moment, Katherine Heigl was not only a movie star, she was in a good movie, and good in it. In Knocked Up she played well with Seth Rogen, and the two had believable chemistry. Then she went the Kate Hudson route, and has appeared in a number of romantic comedies that became more and more phony, and audiences began tuning out. Now she’s in One for the Money, and to be fair it’s not a standard romantic comedy. At least – if nothing else – the trailer suggests that there won’t be a clothes shopping montage. Check it out…

The trailer and star billing shows that the film is concerned with the sexual tension between Heigl’s character and Jason O’Mara’s wanted man – which could turn this into the poor man’s Out of Sight. And between the hookers/snitches and the old people that Heigl seems to live with, it’s possible that this is too cutesy by half. Also, co-star John Leguizamo is barely noticeable in the trailer.

But – to stay positive – maybe this film is Heigl working within her wheelhouse (romantic comedy) with a better twist, and with Janet Evanovich’s novels as the source, perhaps there’s a better story here than any of the last couple films Heigl’s made. She’s also re-teaming with director Julie Anne Robinson, who worked with Heigl on Grey’s Anatomy. The film comes out January 27, 2012.

Katherine Heigl to Make an HBO Movie

Katherine Heigl came out of Knocked Up smelling like a rose. The actress – who started in film and television at a very young age – came across as a formidable leading lady. She made you believe that she might have a relationship with Seth Rogen. She was also on a hit TV show. The world was hers. Cut to: four lesser romantic comedies later, and now she’s going to produce and star in a movie for HBO. The material is Ann Hood’s The Knitting Circle, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Heigl gained a quick on-screen acceptance, but the tabloid side of fame did her no favors. The romantic comedy requires an audience to have sympathy for their protagonists, even though they look like movie stars (and Heigl is undeniably attractive). Since the driving force of these successes seem to come from female audiences, that Heigl came off as unpleasant and coarse has done her no favors.

The other problem is that as an actress she’s good enough, but the romantic comedy genre has written itself into a hole over the last coupe of years. We’ve seen it tried to be rebooted (as it were) for the modern era, but the majority of romantic comedies often are based on unbelievable premises, and require a lot of labor to get to a third act that keeps their couple apart. None of this is necessarily Heigl’s fault, but if the films aren’t good and your public behavior is alienating, your star wattage goes down.

Perhaps HBO is the place for Heigl to flex some acting muscles, or perhaps her romantic comedy star is winding down. Either or.

Katherine Heigl Replaces Halle Berry in New Year’s Eve

Just when we thought we’d found one romantic comedy without Katherine Heigl’s influence, we’ve been proven wrong! Over the past month, the casting for Garry Marshall’s latest film New Year’s Eve has been growing at the speed of light. The movie has experienced a serious surge in actors with the latest batch being added on Thursday. Now according to Deadline, the reigning rom-com queen Heigl has found a way to creep into the mix.

The site reports that Heigl will replace Oscar winner Halle Berry in the ensemble comedy that will have her serving as a love interest for Jon Bon Jovi. He’ll play (you guessed it) a rock star who once dumped Heigl’s food catering character but now finds himself face to face with her again at a party.

Berry recently dropped out of the film just as the production was getting under way. Her reps claim that New Year’s Eve is the perfect project for the actress because it’s an ensemble piece that will allow plenty of flexibility in her schedule. The actress was in early talks to star in the film, prior to this casting but nothing ever came of it.

We feel as if Berry would have been a better fit for the role than Heigl. Her and Bon Jovi are in the same age group and their both really, really good looking. Nothing against Heigl, but we’re sick of seeing her in every romantic comedy produced. What about you?

Katherine Heigl Drops Out of Adaline

Last week we learned that Hollywood legend Angela Lansbury had joined the cast of the fantasy/romance drama Adaline. But just when it seemed like everything was shaping up, the lead actress jumped ship! According to Deadline, Katherine Heigl, whom was set to play the title character is no longer attached to the project leaving it without a leading lady.

Adaline centers on a young woman, born at the turn of 20th century, who is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she meets a man who she considers losing her immortality to be with. While she’s stuck in her late twenties, Lansbury will play her 80 year old daughter who needs her help because she can no longer take care of herself.

Last night Heigl’s reps rung up the folks over at Lakeshore Entertainment and officially withdrew from the project. The actress stated that she wasn’t ready to go back to work yet, being that she’s a new mother and wants to spend time with her daughter. This is also one of the reasons she took her first hiatus from “Greys Anatomy” before eventually being written out of the show.

Lakeshore partner Gary Lucchesi, a producer on the film said, “We were scheduled to shoot mid-March and we hope to achieve that. We are great fans of hers and if this is what she has to do, we respect that.”

Angela Lansbury to Play Katherine Heigl’s Daughter in Adaline

Back in May it was announced that Katherine Heigl had signed on for a new project that was tentatively called Age of Adaline. It’s a fantasy film that takes the rules of life and logic and tosses it to the wind. According to Deadline, another actress has landed a part in the movie and it’s none other than legendary film, stage, and TV veteran Angela Lansbury.

According to the site, Lansbury will play the daughter of Heigl’s character. If that throws you for a loop, there is a method behind the madness. Heigl plays a young woman, born at the turn of 20th century, who is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she meets a man who she considers losing her immortality to be with. While she’s stuck in her late twenties, Lansbury will be her 80-something child who needs her help, because she can no longer take care of herself.

J Mills Goodloe and Sal Paskowitz have written the script, which has been receiving rewrites from Allison Burnett. The film is slated to begin production in April and Summit Entertainment will distribute.

Life As We Know It: Movie Review

This weekend Katherine Heigl adds another notch to her romantic comedy belt – and, shockingly, people (chicks) over the age of 16 might actually enjoy it. Life As We Know It, also starring Josh Duhamel, follows the disaster of two single adults becoming guardians to the daughter of their mutual, recently deceased best friends. The Warner Bros. release is directed by Greg Berlanti and opens in theaters nationwide this Friday.

The Plot:

Allison (Hendricks) and Peter (MacArthur) arrange a blind date for their best friends, Holly (Heigl) and Messer (Duhamel). Unfortunately, the doomed couple never actually make it to the restaurant, due to an immediate lack of chemistry – within seconds of meeting they can’t stand each other. A few years later, Allison and Peter are killed instantly in a car accident, leaving their baby Sophie, an orphan. They select Holly and Messer as guardians, forcing the two to painfully inhabit the same space to raise the child.

The Good:

Concept: Most romantic comedies in some shape or form are reminiscent of their predecessors. Let’s be real, there are only so many cheesy, chick-flicky story-lines one can write. Life As We Know It, though, features a surprisingly original concept.
Not All Gooey: There are ample “Aww!” moments to elicit female shrieking and swooning – but the framework of the story is undoubtedly tragic. Holly and Messer are not only coping with the death of their best friends, but they’re immediately tossed into parenthood – a totally foreign/terrifying endeavor for both of them. The silver lining: they hate each other. The “dramatics” are sufficiently overshadowed by good comedy and cheesiness, but still play a substantial role in the film’s makeup.
Not Painfully Predictable: Any moron with half a dozen brain cells can predict that Holly and Messer will clearly end up together. But the inevitable sparks don’t fly until the fourth quarter of the film. You really see them struggle to share space, make collective decisions, and acknowledge their feelings for each other. Berlanti makes them work for it, and the audience wait for it. This build is obviously conducive to a stronger pay off.
Duhamel: The man is a dream boat, that goes without saying. But he’s surprisingly funny, and surprisingly believable. Who knew?!

The Good/Bad:

Heigl: In every romantic comedy Heigl makes the same choices. Don’t get me wrong – it works for chick flicks, but it’d be nice to see a little variation.
Cheese: Again, this is a romantic comedy. Expect everything that comes with that territory.

Overall:

It’s better than your average chick flick – but a chick flick none the less. Decide for yourself.

Rating: 7/10

Life as We Know It opens in theaters nationwide October 8th.

Josh Duhamel Strips Down for Life as We Know it Poster

A new one sheet has been released for the upcoming dramedy, Life as We Know It. The film stars Josh Duhamel, Katherine Heigl, and a baby. A baby who’s probably played by several toddlers, with too many names to mention. It’s interesting that the studio has just now decided to release a poster for this film considering the trailer dropped months ago. Check out Duhamel in his tighty whities below…

Life As We Know it centers on two single adults whose lives are dramatically changed when their mutual best friends are killed in an accident and name them as the guardians of their daughter. Besides Heigl and Duhamel the cast includes Josh Lucas, “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks and Jean Smart.

Is Duhamel giving the baby a peek into its own future? If this photo was just shown from his waist up you’d really have questions about why Heigl’s head is going south. This image was actually taken from a scene in the film that Heigl’s not even in — ahh, the magic of photoshop.

Life as We Know It hits theaters nationwide on October 8th.

Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Katherine Heigl’s new film, Life as We Know It. It appears that the actress is trying to step out of her rom-com comfort zone with the movie and her co-star Josh Duhamel. The key word is “trying” because there’s still a lovey-dovey element that plagues the story, but it’s Hollywood what else would you expect? Check out the trailer…

We told you! Even though the premise is extremely depressing they managed to squeeze a love story in there. Life as We Know It doesn’t look like a slap your knee, spit out your water kind of comedy but it still has a few familiar elements that we’re used to seeing in Katherine Heigl films. Regardless of the lack of originality, they cast a cute kid as the baby and anyone who can put poo on an actresses face and get away with it is OK in my book!

Life as We Know It will hit theaters on October 8, 2010.

Two New Clips From Killers

Killers, the action-romantic-comedy that will bring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher together, is less than a month away. Two more clips are in, one with very few words, the other with too many words (if you ask me), but the latter makes up for it with some much needed humor. Check it out below…

Killers centers on a single woman (Heigl) who meets the man (Kutcher) of her dreams while on vacation with her parents. She eventually begins to date they guy and they fall in love, but the only problem is he has a shady occupation that involves bullets flying ever so often. Soon the two love birds are on the run of their lives when they discover that their neighbors are out to kill them. Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara also star as Heigl’s parents.

The first clip seems to be filled with the usual action-comedy staples with Kutcher running and panting, and cars crashing and exploding. As for the latter, as dull as Heigl’s character may appear to be, it’s nice to see some hints of comedy. We’re even introduced to a new “marriage” term, “the three-year-ooze.” Nice one! Killers hits theaters on June 4, 2010.

Katherine Heigl Cast in Age of Adaline

If you’ve been dealing with a bad case of Katherine Heigl overload brace yourself because there’s more to come. The former “Grey’s Anatomy” star has just signed on for a romance-drama (no surprise there) called Age of Adaline where she’ll play a woman who can live forever and doesn’t look a day over 30.

Age of Adaline will be produced by Lakeshore Entertainment and was developed by Anonymous Content and SKE. In the film Heigl will play “a young woman, born at the turn of 20th century, who is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she meets a man who might be worth losing her immortality.” So this is a sappier version of every other film she’s done that centers on a woman who’s deemed “unlovable” and tosses caution to the wind for a man (face palms).

Heigl, Jennifer Aniston, and Kate Hudson are single handedly destroying movies for the general population. To be fair Hudson has tried to step outside her comfort zone with The Killer Inside Me but the other two are lost causes. We won’t be waiting in line to see this movie but we’re sure some of you will spend your hard earned cash to see Heigl do what she does best.

New Killers Theatrical Trailer

If you thought you could go a summer without seeing Katherine Heigl in a romantic comedy you were wrong. Dead wrong! A new trailer has been released for her and Ashton Kutcher’s latest film Killers (sigh) and it’s just as boring as the previous one. Are your ready for some mediocre action, acting, and romance? Check it out below…

Killers centers on a recently single woman who meets the man of her dreams while on vacation with her parents. She eventually begins to date they guy and they fall in love, the only problem is he has a shady occupation that involves bullets flying ever so often. Her idyllic life turns to shambles once she and her new boyfriend realize their neighbors have been contracted to kill them. Besides Kutcher and Heigl, the cast includes Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara as Heigl’s parents.

We’ve tried to give this movie the benefit of the doubt but it just doesn’t look entertaining. It comes across as very generic and forced. Heigl and Kutcher look like the lighter versions of Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise in their upcoming action-comedy Knight and Day.

Killers debuts in theaters on June 4, 2010.

New Killers Elevator Clip With Kutcher and Heigl

First came the trailer, then came the posters, now comes a clip from Ashton Kutcher and permanent rom-com staple Katherine Heigl’s latest film, Killers. From a distance it may look like a lighter version of the 2005 action flick Mr. and Mrs. Smith but it’s far from it. This movie is on a whole other level and we don’t mean that in a good way. Check out a scene from the film featuring the two actors, an elevator, and some partial nudity below…

Before we jump into the clip, let’s remember the premise of this romantic thriller: a single woman (Heigl) meets the man (Kutcher) of her dreams while on vacation with her parents. They date, they fall in love, and she discovers that her new man has some skeletons in his closet, which is the perfect set up for slapstick antics to ensue.

The following scene highlights the couple’s first encounter in the French Riviera, where the pristine Heigl can’t take her eyes off a shirtless Kutcher. Even though nothing about this film particularly tickles our fancy, Kutcher is semi-charismatic for this minute-and-a-half scene. Heigl on the other hand is no different than her previous overbearing characters in 27 Dresses and The Ugly Truth (and yes, we saw both). Check it out for yourself …
