According to the LA Times, Kate Winslet has taken on the lead role in the remake of Mildred Pierce, a film most remembered for starring Joan Crawford and those infamous eyebrows. This time around, it will be a miniseries event as opposed to a single feature. It hasn’t been picked up by anybody at the moment, but HBO is interested in the project. The adaptation is to be lead by Todd Haynes ( I’m Not There), who will also direct the project.

- No Wall-E sequel for you! That’s pretty much what writer/director Andrew Stanton said regarding the buzz surrounding another Wall-E installment. “Personally, I never consider sequels. I always love the idea of something just being contained and done.” [MTV]
- Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is developing a new project entitled, Damascus Gate. The film will be ”a political thriller involving a journalist and a group of extremists in modern-day Jerusalem.” [THR]

- Stephen Daldry recieved the top director’s prize at The Evening Standard British Film Awards on Sunday, for The Reader. As you already know the film is nominated for several Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actress for Kate Winslet. [Variety]
- The British Academy of Film and Television Arts will honor writer and director Terry Gilliam with this years fellowship prize. “The fellowship is the highest accolade bestowed on an individual by BAFTA in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film.” [Variety]
