Since her Oscar nomination for 2000′s Almost Famous, Kate Hudson has followed the blueprint for starlets: Lots of romantic comedies, and at least one thriller. What she hasn’t done much of is acting, or at least acting more than “charming.” That is a skill-set unto itself, but she’s definitely fallen into a number of boring movies. So it’s good news that she’s been cast in the lead of Joe Lynch‘s thriller Everly, as we might see her do something interesting again.

But the real winner this week are period film buffs who get The Conspirator and Jane Eyre on DVD this week. Two films which, after much investigation, I’ve determined were released this year. Who knew?

Not only that, but season five of everyone’s favorite Showtime Serial Killer, two excellent Special Editions and the worst DVD of the week!

Standing toe-to-toe with highly anticipated Thor, I’m certain the filmmakers are banking on their celebrity-stocked cast to score serious numbers at the box office. We we fortunate enough to sit down with the picture’s leading ladies, Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin, to talk about the project.

SomethingBorrowed Something Borrowed: Movie Review

Ah, the rules of feminism. Who came up with them, how flexible are they, and when is it legitimately fair  to call “Oh NO she didn’t?”  National best-selling author, Emily Griffin, has an opinion or two in her novel, Something Borrowed, which was quickly adapted and now stands several days shy of release. Directed by Luke Greenfield (The Girl Nextdoor) and pimping a solid celebrity line-up (Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Krasinski) the rom-com hits theaters Friday, May 6 – (and WILL be your newest guilty pleasure pic, ladies).

the killer inside me6 3 10 The Killer Inside Me: Movie Review

The latest movie from prolific but patchy Michael Winterbottom, The Killer Inside Me, is faithfully adapted from a novel by black-hearted pulp writer Jim Thompson. It features a stand-out performance by Casey Affleck as the cold-blooded psycho of the title, but with walk-outs and angry reactions at Sundance earlier this year (listen to them here), it is already the subject of some controversy for the vicious beatings meted out to its two female stars, most notably the extended pummelling of Jessica Alba’s sweet and pretty phisog.

Out of all the films to get trashed at this year’s Sundance Film Festival The Killer Inside Me took the cake. The audience’s reaction to it was less than stellar (listen to the outrage) and at one point a woman had to be physically removed from the theater because she was shouting her disdain at the top of her lungs.

No matter how you feel about the film it’s coming out this summer and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. If you don’t want to see it, don’t watch it but if you do here’s the trailer…

Last night after the premiere of Michael Winterbottom‘s film, The Killer Inside Me starring Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba, the director, producers and some of the actors walked out onto the stage and before anyone could ask a question an angry audience member decided to tell them “the film was so violent that she couldn’t believe it was accepted into Sundance.” Then she kept going on about how “it was just horrible.” The majority of the crowed booed her out of the room, while the director tried to move on. She wouldn’t be the last audience member to bring up the film’s violence, others asked “how do you expect something like this to sell?” “Do you support violence against women?” Scroll down if you want to hear the audio for yourself…
