The hit musical Rock of Ages took many of the kitschy but lovably sincere rock anthems of the 1980′s and Broadway-ized them. So who better to head up the film adaptation than Adam Shankman, who gave Hairspray a similar stage-to-screen treatment? The film – which stars Julianne Hough, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand and Malin Ackerman – hits theaters June 1, 2012, but now there’s a trailer. Check it out.

The premise is in the trailer: there are young kids who want to be stars, and a Tipper Gore-esque politican who thinks that this new-fangled rock and roll leads to sex, which then ties it into Hairspray while still hitting that 80′s nostalgia button. Then there’s Tom Cruise with his long hair, and making jokes about being a rock and roller. Anyway, check it out:

This script was worked over by Oscar winner Michael (Little Miss Sunshine) Arndt and Justin Theroux, so this is definitely an A-list wanna-be blockbuster, but it’s currency will probably be strongest with people who love the modern musical, and those who didn’t live through the era. Perhaps it’s time for those from the 1980′s to experience their own version of Grease, where the things that seemed real become cartoon versions of history. Alas, what kills my interest is the cutesy versions of those songs. But it could be fun.

What’s your favorite modern musical?

Though the title suggests a stoner comedy along the lines of The Pineapple Express, Your Highness is more of a goof on the fantasy and Sword and Sorcery movies that took over cinema in the early 1980′s, films that ranged from the studio financed Conan the Barbarian and Clash of the Titans, to the Italian and American rip-offs like Yor, the Hunter from the Future and Barbarian Queen. If you’ve got a soft spot for The Beastmaster, but also recognie that it’s kinda goofy, this movie is for you. Otherwise…

The Players

Directed by: David Gordon Green

Writers: Danny McBride Ben Best

Starring: Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel, Justin Theroux

The Story

Thadeous (McBride) is the second son of King Tallious (Charles Dance) and therefore second in line to Fabious (James Franco) who is always successful on his magical journeys. Recently he’s rescued Belladonna (Deschanel) from capitivity, and plans to marry her. Then the evil Wizard Leezar shows up and steals her for “The Fuckening” where he will impregnate her with a dragon. Thadeous and Fabious are forced team up to find her, and eventually get the help of Isabel (Portman), who has a quest of her own.

The Good

Comedy from Unexpected Performers: Sure Danny McBride is going to be funny, but performers like Damien Lewis and Toby Jones are commited to the material, and it pays off in jokes and directions unexpected that kill. Oscar-winner Natalie Portman plays it straight, but then when she has to deliver filthy dialog she does it without a wink and it kills.

Justin Theroux: Playing the villain, his hamstrung plot for “The Fuckening” falls apart the further it goes along because of his incompetence.

All Out: Some of the jokes, and settings are just plain out there. From a fortune telling mythical creatures who’s also a pedophile, to a randy Minotaur, the film goes to some pretty strange places for laughs, but that it’s doing so in this setting

Brotherly Love: McBride and Franco don’t look like each other, but their relationship is very real, and that’s helped by Franco’s commitment to character. The film works because it never descends into parody (the closest it comes is a very direct mockery of Clash of the Titans Bubo) and the two play off each other well.

Cadence: Comedy works when it hits you with a surprise, and with David Gordon Green’s comedies, sometimes those surprises come from weirdly chosen inflections of a line, or weird digressions. Though McBride’s comic cadence is well defined – and he does it well here – Green constantly finds notes to hit that come out of nowhere.

The Bad

The Prologue: McBride’s character gets in trouble with midgets. Comedies that use midgets for punchlines are often bad, and though there’s one good joke in the mix, it starts the film off on the wrong foot, which is made worse by…

The Opening Credits: The pot angle of this film was a mislead, and the opening credits (which are vandalized while they play) sets this up to be more along the lines of a spoof movie. If the movie itself never tips its hand, the credits do, and so you’re left with the first couple minutes of the film kinda sucking.

The Specificity: Having grown up watching pretty much all of the films this film is riffing on, I get it, and I laughed hardily. For many who have context of a film like Krull or Excalibur, the genre being toyed with isn’t really so familiar as to play as well with people who don’t know it.

Overall

This is the sort of film that usually creates a binary response. If you like McBride’s comic stylings, and appreciate the references, then you’ll probably have fun with it. But those who aren’t McBride fans, or didn’t play a little Dungeons and Dragons, and never saw the fun of Krull are probably going to be left at a loss. Ultimately, the film is a goof, and perhaps part of what makes it appealing or unappealing is that they actually made it.

Rating: 7.5/10

Your Highness hits theaters April 8.

Justin Theroux first got attention when he was one of the characters in David Lynch’s Mullholand Dr. But though he worked successfully since then, his collaboration on the script for Tropic Thunder brought him new life as a screenwriter (he got sole credit on Iron Man 2). He’s currently co-starring in David Gordon Green‘s Your Highness - with Danny McBride, Natalie Portman and James Franco – as the evil wizard Leezar who has an evil plan for Franco’s fiancée (Zooey Deschanel). Check out our talk.

Note, his character’s plan is called “The Fuckening,” and we talk about some aspects of the finale, so that section could be considered a spoiler. It appears at the end of the interview.

On Writing Vs. Acting

You’re a successful screenwriter, when it comes to a good role versus a good script, would you have trouble chosing?

Justin Theroux: I would always choose the script, but you get more creative control that way. But in a situation like this where everyone’s really funny and you want to do it, it’s a chance of a lifetime. I think a script has longer legs than a performance, so in the end it’s more satisfying. Harder but more satisfying.

What’s going on with your screenwriting career at the moment?

JT: I’ve got a couple pots simmering. Ben Stiller and I handed in a draft of Zoolander 2 we’re excited about, and so we’re just waiting for that to happen, and that’s pretty much where that stands.

Do approach Zoolander differently now that Ben Stiller’s a huge star and director versus when the original movie came out when he was known but not a superstar?

JT: You mean where he’s at? No, because he knows the character’s the same, you’re not writing for Stiller. He not that different between when we made the last movie. Ben’s such a smart screenwriter, he’s good at cutting away fat and creating material, he’s kind of a genius when it comes to creating a screenplay. As is evidenced in Tropic Thunder.

You were a screenwriter on Tropic Thunder, which gave Danny McBride a breakout role, and he’s writing this script, was there a dynamic shift working on this film?

JT: No, I was a huge Danny McBride film from The Foot Fist Way, so when we were doing Tropic, Ben said “I think we should get Danny McBride” and I was like “Yes, that guy is super funny.” I think that gave Danny entre to say “hey do you want to do this with me?” I think we’re both fans of each other. He’s got this immitigable style as a writer and performer, this blunt force way of writing jokes, which is super funny and I can’t do, so I’m happy to say whatever he can come up with.

Green Vs. Lynch

David Gordon Green looks like David Lynch a little bit, how would compare working with the two of them, are there similarities?

JT: David and David? When I worked with the Davids… (laughs) They’re different, but if you had to find a similarity they both have very good senses of humor and both create a really fun working environment. I know when I worked with David Lynch on Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire, I was shocked at how serious they were because when you’re on a David Lynch set it’s like you’re making a comedy. You’re having so much fun, and you’re laughing and David’s laughing, and then you watch the movie and they’re like (imitates a Lynchian drone) and all of sudden these weird glances. The movies are the sign of a good artist, and he keeps the set and the filmmaking experience light and accessible to the actor and then he goes into the lab and does his mix, and it’s like “holy shit, that’s something totally different than what I thought we were making.” And the same is sort of true for David Gordon Green in that he keeps it real light, real easy, but knows exactly what he wants – and so does David (Lynch) as well. But in as far as approach goes they’re very different guys.

So it must have been fun collaborating with this David?

JT: Yeah. Those guys have such a particular way of creating jokes, and being a fan of comedy it’s unique and in their own voice, I was stoked to be able to participate. They’re great at coming up with stuff on the fly.

Was there a lot of improv?

JT: There was, but Danny must not be giving his screenplay the credit it deserves, because it was a really funny screenplay. Any good movie or script – if they’re doing their job – it’s giving the highest possible platform for an actor to leap off of. That script was very high up there – it was a smart, tight script. And there was a lot of improv once we got on set, but a lot of the script was in there.

Playing a Ringer

How does it feel to come into a role where you’re a ringer?

JT: It’s the fun part because you don’t have any heavy lifting to do. You just get to shout and chew scenery and be awful and say a few jokes, and you don’t have the romantic story line or the quest part of the story, you just pop up now and again.

Did you have any input into your look?

JT: Yeah, we stole Gary Oldman’s Dracula hair, but just enough so we wouldn’t get copyright infringement. In Zoolander I stole his True Romance look when I’m playing the evil DJ. Me and David and Danny watched a lot of villains from the era. Labyrinth, all the movies I watched growing up. And then the performance I took from was Merlin in Excalibur – that slightly drinky English take, and the weird chrome helmet thing. That performance made me laugh so hard, cause it always looks like he’s been drinking all morning. I took my lead from that performance. And then a little bit of makeup from David Bowie from Labyrinth, we took the teeth from Willem Dafoe in Wild at Heart. A Frankenstein of other villains.

How game was Zooey for some of your madness?

JT: We all respected each other enough where we’d say “please don’t make me say this to Zooey Deschanel, it just feels wrong.” And Danny had a similar thing with Natalie and she had a similar thing with Danny, but we just got in to it, because of the world we were in and the stupidity of the world we were in, it was fun to say those sort of ridiculous things to each other.

On His Character’s Evil Plan

Your character has some difficulty completing his revenge, do you think your character had performance anxiety, or do you think he was forced into this?

JT: I asked David and Danny “what’s the deal with my character?” And David said “He’s nineteen years old.” I thought he was four thousand years old, no he’s nineteen. And that makes so much sense because he’s a nineteen year old virgin. He’s a guy who’s never had sex who’s been raised by three demented women who are much, much older, and he has to perform under two moons in front of his parents.

Though you said you got to chew up the scenery, what was great was there was an insecurity and vulnerability – not just in the moment.

JT: Well he has this backwards trajectory. Normally the bad guy grows more and more powerful, and my trajectory was coming in horrible and you think “oh this is a guy to be reckoned with” and as he goes on he grows more and more neurotic, so he has this sort of downward spiral. “oh god this guy’s unraveling.”

Did you consciously sketch that out, or did it come out organically?

JT: I think it came out of knowing that he was a virgin, also the idea of his whole life being about The Fuckening, and making this moment happen. Why on earth would you put this on a platform in the middle of a huge room in front of your parents? That would be the worst way to lose your virginity. So I think it came out of – weirdly enough – the reality of our fantasy movie.

It feels like all these medieval sword and sorcery villains try to dance around what they’re going to do, how did it feel to conspire to “The Fuckening?”

JT: That was a conversation I had with Danny and David earlier. With these kind of movies there’s always an event called “The Darkening” or “The Awakening” or the whatever, so I said “how about we called it ‘The Fuckening’?” and they were like “oh my god!”We weren’t mincing words. “I’m going to take her and have my way with her and put a dragon in her womb.” I’m sure it will be on the DVD somewhere, but the plan did come to fruition at one point and because it went so haywire, I ended up laying an egg with a dragon in it, and I shot this sequence where I gave birth to this pustulated and horrible whatever… maybe it was a bridge too far. The Fuckening was consummated in a completely perverted way where I gave birth to this half baked dragon that was manned by some wonderful little person.

Your Highness comes out April 8. Check it out.

It’s time to get dirty and medieval with the newest trailer for the David Gordon Green comedy, Your Highness. The director reunites with his Pineapple Express co-stars James Franco and Danny McBride, who are joined by Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel. That’s not a bad group of people to headline a film. Over at IGN, they’ve just released the red band trailer and yes, it’s pretty vulgar. Take a look…

Official Synopsis:

Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he’s settled for a life of wizard’s weed, hard booze and easy maidens. But when Fabious’ bride-to-be, Belladonna (Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off.

Half-assedly embarking upon his first quest, Thadeous joins Fabious to trek across the perilous outlands and free the princess. Joined by Isabel (Natalie Portman)—an elusive warrior with a dangerous agenda of her own—the brothers must vanquish horrific creatures and traitorous knights before they can reach Belladonna.

It looks like people were just as foul mouthed back then as they are today. This is an extremely long trailer clocking in at 3 and a half minutes. We hope they didn’t reveal all of the good stuff with it. We’re personal fans of “Suck the venom! Suck the venom!” and we also like, “Handle your shit man.” If there’s more where that came from this should be pretty hilarious.

Your Highness hits theaters on April 8, 2011.

What do you think of the red band trailer for Your Highness?

We thought we were done with Zoolander. After the the demise of the long awaited Anchorman sequel, we were pretty sure that Zoolander 2 would follow in its footsteps and never see the light of day. But screenwriter and co-star Justin Theroux says there’s still life left in the property, and he’s got the script to prove it.

Theroux spoke with MTV about the progress of Zoolander 2 and revealed that the script is in “good shape right now.” He hasn’t submitted it to the studio just yet but he’s very optimistic about what their reaction will be. He wouldn’t divulge any plot details but he assures us that “It’s too funny — it’ll blow your mind.”

“[W]e start off with them in a pretty bad place,” he said. “They’re about to ring 40′s bell. They have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another.”

One of the things he did open up about is the return of Will Ferrell. The actor played Zoolander’s nemesis Mugatu, [spoiler] who was exposed as an attempted murderer at the end of the film. The writer said that they want the actor and the character to return, but they also have some new villains taking the stage in the sequel and one of them is inspired by Jonah Hill. Therefore, those rumors about him being involved in the film weren’t that far off.

What do you think of the premise for Zoolander 2? Do you want to see a sequel?

Not long ago we attended the press conference for Iron Man 2, which was basically Robert Downey Jr.‘s chance to show off a unique hybrid between himself and Tony Stark. Not only did he dominate the stage, the questions, and everyone elses answers, but at one point he literally “held” the press conference together – but more on that below. In attendance along with Downey was the director Jon Favreau, writer Justin Theroux, producer Kevin Peige and cast members Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, and Don Cheadle (sadly no Sam Rockwell who absolutely rocked the film).

There’s no doubt that Downey is as entertaining in person as he is on screen. He’s smart, clever, scolds bad journalists in a professional and yet witty way. And although he’s jovial he in no way takes what he does for granted and you can tell that he works very hard at what he does and knows how to give one hell of a sound bite. For instance…

Question: Robert, did you dress up as a superhero as a kid for Halloween?

Downey: Growing up, no, but in my mid-thirties in Palm Springs right before an arrest, yes. Underwear Man. It was a premonition.

And of course the telling off of the journalist…

Question: This is a little off topic. Robert, are you going to be the Vampire Lestat?

Downey: Yeah. I mean anything that’s going on, just imagine that it’s been offered to me. I like that you’re imagining that we’ve been on topic so far.

Jon Faverau comes off almost exactly opposite of Downey, he’s much more humble and sweet with long detailed answers about the process of film-making. He seems like he hasn’t let any of this go to his head and really cares about what his fans think of his work.

Question: There was a lot of improv in the making of the first Iron Man. How much of the original script are we seeing onscreen? And how much of it is the entire group coming together and making things up as they go?

Favreau: The story was very well fleshed out… We leave a lot of room in those scenes and try to do multiple cameras sometimes or stay up and rewrite. Justin, he was doing multiple passes, sometimes double digit passes on scenes because we learn things from each scene that we shoot. We try to shoot pretty much in order and what’s nice about having the actors that you see up here is that they’re all very good stewards of their characters emotionally and they’re used to being in films where you don’t have the safety net of all the high technology and the explosions.

One of the best parts of the press conference was the banter between Downey and Favreau…

Question: Jon, I noticed your cameo from the first movie definitely got more fleshed out. Why did you decide to join in on the action yourself? Robert, I noticed your wife’s name was in the credits as a producer when she wasn’t on the last film. What did that mean for you?

Favreau: Sure. Do you mind if we swap questions? He’ll talk about Happy Hogan and I’ll talk about Susan Downey? Susan is a great producer. It’s not like she came onboard and became a producer because we’re making ‘Iron Man’. Quite the contrary. We were funneling towards a start date and we had a lot of ideas spread out and… she has tremendous organizational ability and she understands Robert’s creative process, understands the first movie and lived through it with us.

Downey: On a certain level they might’ve thought that she was going to come in and tame me or put me in check but I was completely out of my mind — power hungry. Let’s talk about Happy Hogan. There’s three Happy Hogan’s in the movie. There’s the Jon Favreau that’s in actually excellent shape. He was boxing everyday in pre-production and made it into the ring for the scene where he gets his ass handed to him by Scarlett. It was originally a longer scene and maybe he was just too emasculated to let it be in the movie, (to Scarlett) but I think you laid the boots to him quite severely….

Favreau: Yes. He’s on a run, let him go.

Downey: Then about midway he’s struggling with the meta-fast but occasionally binge-eating on pizza and then saying, ‘This is crazy. I have to get back in the gym -’

Favreau: Can I have my question back?

Downey: By the time we were doing re-shoots they were framing him out of shots. Here’s the thing though, this is one of the things that I love about you.

Favreau: Oh, here we go now.

Downey: You know what, I don’t even have the up beat part. I forgot it.

Sadly, the two lovely ladies barely got to say much, you can check out our Scarlett Johansson interview for more from her.

***SLIGHT SPOILER***

Paltrow and Downey did have something interesting to say about the tension and kiss between them…

Question: There’s a real ‘Moonlighting’ thing going on with your two characters in this film, but the kiss was highly anticipated. How it was finally having that onscreen kiss?

Downey: I couldn’t get her off me. It was embarrassing.

Paltrow: It was great because both my husband and his wife were right there.

Downey: Yeah. She said to me that I didn’t know what I was doing, like it didn’t feel good and I’m like, ‘You know what, first of all, we’re all friends so what would be creepy is if I was coming off all sexy to you,’ and by the way I’ve done that in movies and it creeps them out!

***END OF SPOILER****

Don Cheadle was only asked the mundane “so what was it like taking over the role from Terrance Howard” question and Mickey Rourke although asked questions, didn’t really give any answers. You try asking an intimidating brick wall a question when it doesn’t want to talk, it’s not easy! Nor productive.

Sadly, the hour that we were supposed to have with the bunch quickly got cut short because a poster fell behind the actors and apparently we can’t ask questions without an image behind them. Although Downey quickly ran to pick it up, wrap it around himself and point to the people on the poster who were answering question, the press conference was quickly shut down. You can see everything up until “the banner falling catastrophe” in the video below but if you want to hear the full shenanigans listen to the audio below the video…

It’s time! Iron Man 2 is about to hit theaters! Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. are back with another installment in their witty, yet action packed franchise. There has been so much anticipation for this film since its trailer debuted (which we sweded) last summer at Comic-Con. The sequel is a solid follow up that comes through with everything you would anticipate from Iron Man, but don’t expect to walk out of the theater with the same “wow” feeling you had after the first film. This is a whole different beast…

The Plot:

Director: Jon Favreau

Writer: Justin Theroux (screenplay)

Comic by: Marvel – Stan Lee, Don Heck, Larry Lieber, Jack Kirby

Actor: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Jon Favreau

Music: John Debney

Cinematographer: Matthew Libatique

The Good:

RDJ as Iron Man: I think we’ve already covered this a million times. The man is genius and he’s perfect for the role. Done!

Sam Rockwell: As always, one of the most under-rated actors of all times puts in another impressive, scene stealing performance. And despite his absence from the poster his scenes with Mickey Rourke were by far some of the best scenes in the film.

Comedy: Yet again, Favreau mixes wit with action giving the intelligent folk in the audience something to chew while things blow up. Although I feel like there was a bit less humor than the first film, it was still strongly present and effective.

Mickey Rourke: This role was made for Rourke, Ivan is tough, barely speaks unless he has something great to say, he intimidates everyone around him, he lets no one tell him what to do, and he has a lot of evil smirks — Favreau just had to take the risk of working with him. But since Favreau seems to like come-back kids it’s not big surprise that he’s in the film and that he does a brilliant job. From the way he delivers his lines to his maniacal chuckle, hes subtle, powerful and extremely fun to watch.

Visuals: Although the fight scenes are sparce, they’re extremely well done, especially Rourke’s first fight scene with Downey Jr. Overall, some really impressive action with some amazing visual effects. I love how this film proves that you don’t need 3-D in order to be pulled into a film.

The Bad:

The Techie Side: As much the techie stuff is fun and very much a part of Iron Man, there were far to many “and back to the workshop!” scenes/montages. We spend about 60% of the film building things, 30% talking about the things being built, and 10% using said products. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I kind of wanted more action and a bit less build up.

The Upsetting:

Accents: It would have made for a far more intelligent and interesting ending if Scarlett Johansson would have gone for the Russian accent. I’m still not sure why she didn’t? But at the end, when she and Ivan face off, they need to both be Russian for it to have the full effect!

The Story: It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t the brilliant show stopper that the first film was. It lagged in some parts and overall was good, but not great.

Overall:

There’s nothing bad about this film. It’s a good film, but it’s almost impossible to live up to the surprise and shock of the first film. It’s hard to really fault it because there is nothing wrong with it. As I keep saying, it’s good! But I think we all wanted to feel the way we felt after walking out of the first film and sadly that just doesn’t happen.

Rating: 7.5/10

Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7th! See it on an IMAX screen, the visuals are definitely worth it!

Could the general public get another extended look at Derek Zoolander’s coveted Magnum, and the oldie but goodie Blue Steel? According to a report from Deadline Hollywood, screenwriter Justin Theroux is getting ready to bring back the vapid male model that’s been engraved in pop culture. Get ready for Zoolander 2.

Paramount is partnering with Theroux to produce the sequel’s screenplay, which will have Ben Stiller reprising the title role. Theroux has previously worked with Stiller on the script for Tropic Thunder, and he also starred as the psycho DJ in the first Zoolander film. The original movie was released on September 28, 2001, weeks after the traumatic events of 9/11. It was a victim of bad circumstance and unfortunately was overlooked while in theaters grossing a mere 45 million dollars.

The reason a film with such a crappy turnout can warrant a sequel is because of its popularity in the home entertainment market. DVD sales for the film have been through the roof (I own a copy), and almost a decade after its theatrical release it’s still a best seller on iTunes. According to Deadline’s sources, “Theroux is going to Fashion Week in Paris to immerse himself on what is current in fashion. It’s got momentum.”

Whatever momentum they find, it better include my boy Owen Wilson stepping in as Hansel. Also, David Bowie along with another pretty man will need to make a cameo at some point in the film. Perhaps David Beckham or Sting? The one thing about Zoolander that I loved were its over the top cameos. There have been a lot of new stars who’ve made headway since 2001, so anybody could pop up in the sequel, the cast of Twilight, Hugh Jackman, who knows!

Do you want to see a sequel to Zoolander? Who should appear in the film?

Iron Man 2 and Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux has landed a gig as a producer on his next project. According to Reuters, the actor-writer-producer will take on a film entitled, Air Guitar. The film will be produced by Paramount, and yes it will cover the world of imitation licks and kicks while using the infamous non-existent instrument.

The script for Air Guitar will be written by Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger and not Theroux himself, even though we know he could do it if he wanted to. The film will be set “in the world of air-guitar competitions and feature the colorful characters who participate in them.” Air Guitar was originally set up at DreamWorks with Barry Josephson, but both moved over to Paramount when the companies split.

The premise for this film screams Will Ferrell or Jack Black for some odd reason. We all know they’ve covered their fair share of questionable subject matter over the course of their careers. Is there anything Justin Theroux can’t do? Next year, he’ll be starring in the comedy Your Highness opposite James Franco and Danny McBride. Geez Justin, save some work for the rest of the entertainers out there.

What do you think of Justin Theroux producing Air Guitar?

Say hello to the bad guy! Actor-writer Justin Theroux has just signed on to co-star in the upcoming comedy Your Highness. He will star opposite James Franco, Danny McBride, and Natalie Portman in this period piece about royalty and honor. According to Empire, the actor will play the villain in the film. More on Your Highness below.

Theroux will star as an evil wizard named Leezar, who uses his powers to kidnap the fiance of Franco’s character, as played by Zooey Deschanel. Your Highness is directed by Pineapple Express helmer David Gordon Green, and centers on two brothers, a heroic heir to the throne (Franco) and his layabout younger sibling (McBride). The film is currently filming in Northern Ireland. Theroux just came off of a successful screenwriting year having co-wrote Tropic Thunder and the upcoming Iron Man 2.

I love seeing Theroux do comedy. He’s a great dramatic actor as well, but he reminds me of Sam Rockwell in that way. I think they can both pull off either style of acting with ease. The fact that he’s making the successful transition to screenwriter is nothing to sneeze at either. He’s gotten hired for several high profile gigs, which I’m sure any aspiring writer would kill to get. Either way, I’m excited to see him in front of the camera again.

What do you think about Justin Theroux being cast as the villain in Your Highness?

The screenwriter of Iron Man 2, and Tropic Thunder is making a move towards the director’s chair for his next project. According to Variety, Justin Theroux has signed to direct Chief Ron for Universal and Imagine Entertainment. It’s a comedy about a conman who claims Native American (Mohegan) ancestry, so he can open up a casino.

The screenplay for Chief Ron was written by Jordan Roberts, and Brian Grazer is on board to produce. The film is actually based on the true story of Chief Ron Roberts. “His blonde hair and blue eyes raised skepticism over his ancestral claims but he prevailed in court and is now building a casino in upstate New York.” Chief Ron will be the second film that Theroux has directed, his first being the 2007 indie feature entitled Dedication, which starred Mandy Moore.

Theroux seems to be getting quite comfortable with the production side of film-making. I have to admit, I’m beginning to miss his presence in front of the camera. He starred in one of my favorite movies (American Psycho), and is a great overall actor. Chief Ron sounds as if it will be a good comedy that can really get him noticed if done right.

What do you think of Justin Theroux’s turn as director for Chief Ron?
