Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods was the unfortunate victim of financing. Set up with MGM, the studio went through a rocky period, which left Woods and their Red Dawn remake distributor-less. Cabin was shot in 2009, but will finally see the light of day April 13, 2012. But if you don’t believe it will finally come out, there’s now proof as Lionsgate has put out a trailer.
Well, it’s finally here—the trailer for the Marvel Films juggernaut in which they mash together the Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America films into a gargantuan, two-hour plus sandwich of explosions, Robert Downey Jr. quips, unconvincing Hulk CGI, and Scarlett Johansson doing things in tights: The Avengers. Toss in some Nine Inch Nails music, the bad guy with the slick mullet from Thor, and some Sam Jackson action in which Sam Jackson acts all Sam Jackson with that Sam Jackson style (did I mention Sam Jackson is in this? Sam Jackson is in this), and you’ve got just about every single Marvel movie trailer you’ve ever seen, all rolled into one convenient mush for you to slurp up.
Marvel studios has been building to Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers since 2008, when Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson had an end credit scene that laid out the possibility of Tony Stark working with a team. Since then we’ve seen Chris Hemsworth cast as Thor, Scarlett Johansson cast as Black Widow, Chris Evans cast as Captain America, Jeremy Renner cast as Hawkeye, and Edward Norton cast as the Hulk. Saving the best for last, D23‘s movie panel concluded with footage from The Avengers, which is still shooting and has two weeks left to go. Though some of the cast was unavailable, Disney brought out Robert Downey Jr., Scarlet Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston and Colbie Smulders to wave at the crowd before they showed the footage twice. Earlier today Warner Bros and Atlas Entertainment announced their partnership to create a reboot of the nineties franchise Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The character was created by Joss Whedon who directed the 1992 feature film and created the 1997 TV series. After it was revealed that they’d found a writer to pen the screenplay for the reboot Whedon had to step in and give his two cents. E!’s Kristin Dos Santos reached out to the creator and gave him an opportunity to respond to the news.

Here’s a piece of random news regarding Marvel’s upcoming big screen adaptation of The Avengers. Joss Whedon is hammering away at the script and keeping all its details close to the vest but recently he opened up about one aspect of the story. He revealed that it will have more than one female presence. Black Widow might not be the only woman kicking ass and looking great while doing it.

Wow! At the end of Marvel’s Thor/Captain America panel presentation, they surprised the audience with a short teaser for The Avengers, which was followed by a surprise appearance from Samuel L. Jackson who came out to introduce the official cast of the movie! Find out more after the jump!

3:44 pm: Whedon says there was never any doubt that he would be a storyteller. Abrams says when he was a kid he was the idiot who loved to do magic tricks for his family. And he revealed that he thinks magic nerds are worse than comic nerds.
