Recently, Joseph Kosisnki’s Oblivion was let go by Walt Disney after it had been picked up last year. Today, there was a press junket for the Blu-ray and DVD release of Tron and Tron: Legacy. We got a chance to talk to Kosinski about what happened to Oblivion and its future, and a possible sequel to Tron: Legacy.
Having made his name in commercial, Joseph Kosinski was a very hot director, and when he was tapped to take on Disney’s Tron franchise, he was given the keys to the kingdom – albeit one with a number of catches. Disney seemed to want to be in the Kosinski business, and when they picked up his graphic novel Oblivion – which tells a post-apocalyptic love story – his nest at the Mouse House seemed assured. Disney has now let the project go. It’s hard not to speculate on what that means.
This weekend Joseph Kosinski will pick up where Steven Lisberger left off nearly 30 years ago when he directed Tron. The sequel Tron Legacy has been infused with new blood both in front and behind the camera. Kosinski is one of the most sought after up and coming directors and he has a lot riding on Tron Legacy’s release. Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski has found another film gig besides The Black Hole remake. According to THR, he’ll reunite with Disney for Oblivion a big screen adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name. The studio purchased the rights to the Radical publication for the sole purpose of Kosinski directing it.
It’s been a long time coming, but Tron: Legacy is finally hitting theaters later this year (after being promoted for like 4), and some of the cast and crew are stopping by Comic-Con for a chat, just like they did last year. Disney has been extremely heavy handed with their marketing of this winter’s Tron Legacy setting it up to become the next Avatar. The long awaited sequel is directed by Joseph Kosinski and we’re sure after the film drops his services will be in high demand. According to THR, he won’t have to wait that long because he’s already become a hot commodity. The trade is reporting that he’s signed on to direct the sci-fi/action film, Archangels.
Joseph Kosinski is the man behind this year’s long awaited Tron Legacy, a sequel that’s been over two decades in the making. Now that the film has been shot and is in post production, he has his eye on another sci-fi feature, The Black Hole. Over at MTV, they spoke to the director about his vision for the film, and what we can expect from it as compared to the original.
The long awaited sequel, Tron Legacy will hit theaters later this year in December, and fans have been holding out for over two decades for its return. The film will feature Jeff Bridges reprising his role as the main character, Kevin Flynn and we’ll see more of the extreme special effects Tron is known for but with an added boost.
