There was a lot of entertainment news this week, from the cancellation of “The Playboy Club” to the unfortunate death of our era’s Edison, Steve Jobs. So, we’ve compiled a list of news bits for you to catch up.
The American Cinematheque in Los Angeles will open their doors to John Lithgow and John Waters this coming week. They’ll both get their own night to talk about their experiences in the movie business, and will share new projects. Tom Six‘s The Human Centipede II debuts this weekend in Los Angeles. We also have a few trailers to show you including My Week With Marilyn, where Michelle Williams channels one of the most famous faces of Hollywood’s Golden Era. Catch up below.

Though 20th Century Fox hasn’t always treated the franchise with respect – either in the original run or in it’s re-imagined Tim Burton fiasco – but the story is durable because man’s relationship to nature and meddling scientists are an evergreen subject. A few days ago there was a rumor that Don Cheadle and Freida Pinto were offered roles in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming prequel, Rise of the Apes and it turns out it was partially true. According to THR, the Slumdog Millionaire actress has officially signed on for the film alongside James Franco and fellow newcomer John Lithgow.

Several promotional photos have been released for the upcoming Amy Adams film, Leap Year. It’s a romantic comedy that co-stars Matthew Goode and Adam Scott in an international love triangle. The film will debut a month before the Valentine’s Day rush in January, so its rom-com competition won’t be that steep.

Confessions of a Shopaholic is a surprisingly poignant film mixed in with a lot of estrogen. That being said, yes it is a “chick flick” but, men, if you find yourselves being dragged into this movie, know that it’s really a funny film with more depth than you would expect. This film has two sides in it. It’s really great female, shopping movie and yet it also deals with addiction and digging yourself into a finical whole (something many of us can relate to). Although the latter is fluffed up so that a teenage audience can relate to it, the first part is not as cliche as it could have been due to the unique performance by Isla Fisher. No matter what the subject matter, she’s really great in this film and makes it worth watching.
