When you think of the Great American Novel set in the roaring 1920s, you think of 3D films with an Auto-Tuned soundtrack, right? Well, if so, you’ll dig the trailer for Baz Luhrman’s over the top take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. If not, well… you may wish to look away for the next two minutes and 30 seconds.
There’s a delicate line that needs to be walked with fantasy movies. Often when it comes to invented solutions to modern problems, it can raise more questions than it answers. So we’re curious to see how The Odd Life of Timothy Green plays, as it tells the story of a couple (Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton) who can’t have their own kid, and then wish one into existence. Wish You Were Here was absolutely perfect way to kick-off Sundance Film Festival 2012! It’s innovative, well made, beautifully acted and like all the best Sundance films, there’s really no way to explain it to those who haven’t seen it without ruining it. But, I will do my best to tell you about the wonders of Wish You Were Here without destroying any of this amazing film!

Remakes are a tricky business, but they’re a huge chunk of the world of horror these days. The trend was kicked off by the surprising success of 2003′s Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and since then we’ve seen many of the beloved horror films from the 1970’s and 80’s rebooted for a modern audience. The makers of the 2011 film The Thing sidestepped remaking John Carpenter’s cult masterpiece by going the prequel root – it’s basically the same story, but without using the same characters. Which keeps it from being blasphemous for horror fans, but in doing so tells a story no one needed to know.
