This summer has brought an onslaught of comic-book movies, but the tide has turned against them. From Thor to X-Men: First Class to The Green Lantern, none of these super-expensive movies have managed to crack $200 Million at the box office, the number Superman Returns made (and that was considered a failure). Partly it’s the films, partly it’s the characters – many of whom aren’t as well known as Batman and Superman. Enter Captain America: The First Avenger. It’s a relief to say it’s entertaining, and will hopefully buck the trend. Find out more below….

From the outset director Joe Johnston might have seemed an odd choice for Captain America: The First Avenger, but he was the perfect fit – having done a period superhero twenty years ago with The Rocketeer. He discussed the movie along with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and producers Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito in a recent press conference, and all spoke of the challenges of making a superhero film that’s meant to tie into next year’s The Avengers. Take a look…

Can Captain America save the summer for superheroes? That’s the question now that we’re three comic-book movies in this summer. And for all the hype, none have performed to expectations. Thor started the summer and is doing Wolverine numbers, while X-Men: First Class and The Green Lantern have done underwhelming business. But maybe Chris Evans and Tommy Lee Jones will get the masses excited. Or maybe this new trailer. Check it out…

And it’s good! Paramount and Marvel studio’s Captain America: The First Avenger is one the big titles of the summer, and the Joe Johnston-directed, Chris Evans-starring film opens July 22, will be the last of summer’s four big superhero films. The trailer is mostly the set-up: Skinny Steve Rogers becomes a superhero through the tutelage of Tommy Lee Jones‘s Col. One of the more anticipated films of the summer is Joe Johnston‘s Captain America: The First Avenger, but so far there’s only been a poster, and the Super Bowl TV spot for a film that opens July 22. They’ve also released some footage from the film – a trailer for a trailer, if you will – and there’s a new image of Chris Evans as Captain A. Take a look…

A few weeks ago, the role of Captain America was finally filled with Chris Evans, an actor best known for playing another Marvel character, The Human Torch (via Fantastic Four). This clash of the comics has been a hard pill for some fans to swallow and people wanted to know why the studio chose someone who was already established in another franchise. Director Joe Johnston has finally broken his silence and explained to the folks over at Earth’s Mightiest, that there was a method behind the decision.

The Wolfman is a remake of the popular horror classic that was produced by Universal over 60 years ago. Instead of capitalizing on a more contemporary adaptation of the character the studio decided to stick with the old plot and feel of the original. This includes the overseas location and time period, accompanied by plenty of blood and gore. This film could have been an amazing revamp of its predecessor but the excessive violence and unnecessary bloodshed ruins it all.
