With all the recent (and not so recent) hints and speculation about his proposed superhero film Ant-Man, it seems Edgar Wright has finally put us straight on the matter – sort of – by announcing that he hopes to start shooting the film this year. The project has long been in development from the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Shaun of the Dead director, and now things finally seem to be moving in the right direction.

With The Adventures of Tintin, Steven Spielberg has finally decided to play with some of the newest toys of cinema, and in his first motion capture film, he revolutionizes the format. Moreso than Avatar, here Spielberg is let loose to play with the camera as he sees fit, and you can see an invigorated director who’s able to stage sequences in ways that would be unimaginable in live action. And that’s enough to make it a must-see.

Last night the AFI festival hosted the first public screening of director Steven Spielberg‘s The Adventures of Tintin. Or, that is to say, the first public screening in America – the film has been open outside of the U.S. for more than a month, and has already made over $100 Million internationally. Spielberg’s first animated/motion-captured film, it stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in an adventure story where Tintin comes across clues to pirate treasure. We’ll have a longer review when the film is released, but check out our quick thoughts…

Joe Cornish‘s Attack the Block opened July 29 in limited markets, so those who’ve been hearing about the film, but don’t live in the major metro areas have been out of luck. But on August 19, the film is expanding to Boston, Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. But Screen Gems also wants to add a sixth location. The catch is that you have to vote it into Philadelphia, Detroit, Miami, Houston, Phoenix, San Diego, Denver, Portland, Cleveland, or Minneapolis. Check out the details…

The little English film that could, Attack the Block hits limited screens this weekend. Highly championed stateside since its South by Southwest debut, what makes Attack the Block so special is that it is a throwback to the 1970′s and 1980′s films that geeks love (from Assault on Precinct 13 to Gremlins) without ever feeling like it’s just a rip-off. In that way, director Joe Cornish paid a greater homage to Steven Spielberg than J.J. Abrams. It’s a marvel. Check out our review….

Though Joe Cornish is a first time director with Attack the Block, he’s not someone fresh out of film school, or a dilettante. Having been in the British entertainment industry for over a decade, his move to feature length filmmaking was as considered as the movie. Cornish was happy to talk about his influences, and was somehow drawn to speaking of Grace Jones. We had a great chat about the film, and he’s a very sharp passionate man. Check it out.

Joe Cornish’s debut film Attack the Block has been screened repeatedly in America and is already out in the UK, but after the great press out of SXSW it was unknown when the film would hit American shores. Screen Gems bought the rights, and now the film is going to go out on limited screens July 29. This is great news – we’ve seen the film and it delivers the same sort of 80′s throwback charms that Super 8 promised but couldn’t deliver.

One of the titles that came out of South By Southwest this year with incredible heat was writer-director Joe Cornish‘s Attack the Block. Executive produced by Edgar Wright and starring Nick Frost (among a young cast of Brits), the film was a fan favorite and recently had two screenings in Los Angeles, the first with ticket giveaway winners and a second for industry people. It seems those screenings went over like gangbusters, and the film was just picked up by Sony’s Screen Gems for release.

One of the geek hits to come out of South by Southwest is Joe Cornish‘s Attack the Block, which was executive produced by Edgar Wright. Cornish and Wright have worked together for years, and also wrote the upcoming Steven Spielberg film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. With the two of them doing press on their latest effort, their long-in-development film of Marvel comic’s Ant-Man was bound to come up, and they teased some information to The Playlist. The money quote from Cornish: “We’re currently working on it, not right now. But the day after tomorrow we’ll go to Los Angeles and…”
