It seems like just yesterday a heavily bearded, sun glass wearing Joaquin Phoenix made his iconic appearance on the “Late Show With David Letterman.” At the time we didn’t realize what the hell was going on with him, but in hindsight we now know that it was part of his new film I’m Still Here. Now in promotion of the finished product, Phoenix will return to the place where it all began…Letterman.

Also check out our I’m Still Here movie review from the Venice Film Festival.
This weekend Casey Affleck’s much talked about documentary I’m Still Here opens in theaters. The film follows a (lost) year in the life of actor Joaquin Phoenix as he attempts to step away from the world of Hollywood and into the world of music. In the first clip released from the movie, he meets with music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs and asks him for advice regarding the next phase of his career. This should be interesting…

Lets gets down to it. The film just premiered at The Venice Film Festival and much like the people there, the real reason you’re going to watch I’m Still Here is to try and figure it out for yourselves, not because I tell you the score or the cinematography is so good. The question we’ve been asking ourselves since we heard the rumor that Joaquin Phoenix was quitting acting and then humiliated himself on Letterman is, is this real or not? Well, that all depends on what you believe is “real”.
I’m Still Here, takes many of the moments that have been displayed in pop culture of Phoenix’s “life-style choice” for the past year or so and shows us how they came to be and the effects they caused on our dear specimen, Joaquin. Though some of the events that we saw take place (ie. the Letterman interview) were most likely staged, it appears that the story behind the lie is in fact genuine.

Do you remember when Joaquin Phoenix was a young, talented, and handsome Oscar nominated actor whose career was on the incline? If so you must also vividly remember when all that went to crap after he stopped shaving, combing his hair, or exercising in any capacity. His new disgruntled look was only mirrored by his equally strange behavior and on the outside none of us had any idea what he was doing.
The big question surrounding the drastic shift in Phoenix’s career and personality will hopefully be answered with his documentary, I’m Still Here. It chronicles the actor-turned-rapper’s life during this tumultuous period and the first teaser trailer for it as been released. Take a look…

Do you remember when Joaquin Phoenix was a respected up and coming actor? Do you remember when he received an Oscar nomination for his amazing performance as a psycho emperor in Gladiator? Most importantly do you remember when he went batshit crazy, started dressing like a hobo, and acting like he was under the influence of some serious drugs? That last moment in his life was chronicled in a film by Casey Affleck entitled I’m Still Here and it’s been confirmed to hit theaters this fall.

Update: Edward Norton has released an official statement regarding his recasting.
One of the biggest questions hovering over Marvel’s Avengers movie (besides Chris Evans ability to play a believable leader) was whether or not Edward Norton would return to play Bruce Banner aka The Hulk. According to several reports this weekend the character will appear in the film but the actor will not. The studio has dropped the ridiculously talented Norton like a hot potato and it looks like they’ve already got a replacement in mind.

Deadline New York has just broke the scoop that Casey Affleck has officially completed the mockumentary he directed about his brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix’s metamorphosis from actor to hip-hop musician. For the past year or so it’s been hard to tell if Phoenix has completely gone mad or if he’s actually been doing it all for a film – if so this may be one of the best films ever created. After seeing the video of his new music career, he was definitely making tricky to say “oh no, it’s all just as act,” and much easier to say “dude, that guys wasted!”
According to Deadline, the film has already made it’s debut and is still being kept tightly under wraps…

Personally, I thought this was a little too mean. Obviously Joaquin Phoenix is having a bit of a rough time. Do we really need to mock him at a huge event? What do you think?
