While most of the focus on Gore Verbinski’s upcoming full-length adaptation of The Lone Ranger has focused on Johnny Depp’s pasty-faced and eccentric take on the sidekick character of Tonto, news broke this week that another pale, oddball artist will be bringing his weirdness to The Lone Ranger—former White Stripes frontman Jack White.
Oh, God, this is gonna go well. According to /Film, Jerry Bruckheimer, who has produced such filmic treasures as Top Gun, The Rock, Con Air, Coyote Ugly, and Pearl Harbor, as well as such television gems as CSI, Cold Case, and The Amazing Race, will be teaming up with ex-wrestler/ current non-actor actor and eyebrow cocking enthusiast The Rock to produce a television show about professional wrestling in the 1980s.
Last week, super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted several photos from the set of his upcoming feature, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film marks the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack and the debut of new director, Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine). Walt Disney Pictures has released a new featurette promoting their upcoming fantasy epic, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The film stars Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel as the title character in this modern day adaptation of the animated classic Fantasia. The video centers on the battle between good and evil and the fate of mankind that rests solely on the young and frail shoulders of Baruchel’s character. Check it out below…
Jake Gyllenhaal is a great actor but his talent is completely wasted on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. If I could describe the film in one word it would be “boring.” This is supposed to be a blockbuster summer action flick and even though it’s being released at the right time, has the right producer (Jerry Bruckheimer), and the right studio backing it (Disney), it gets it all wrong!
The King-of-Action is back with Disney’s new video-game turned summer blockbuster, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, and Sir Ben Kingsley. If there’s one thing that Jerry Bruckheimer knows how to do is set up a landscape for destruction. He’s like a kid who now gets to recreate his fantasies with life sized toys.
The thing that has always impresses me about Bruckheimer is how calm and cool he is during interviews. You know the guy is one of the top producer’s in Hollywood who is known for making things explode, and yet he always wants to talk about story and actors. The man is definitely a pro at promotions. The super-producer has several highly rated TV projects including the procedural dramas “CSI”, “CSI: Miami“, “CSI: New York” and the award winning reality show, “The Amazing Race.” According to Coming Soon, he’s gearing up to add another series to his current roster with the NBC drama, “Chase”.
