‘The Expendables 2′ Trailer Features Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Norris, Van Damme And More

Brace yourselves, folks—you are about to witness the most testosterone-heavy 60 second clip you have ever, or likely will ever, witness. Seriously, this thing is the visual equivalent of eating a pound of raw meat, going to the gym for an hour, and then challenging a stranger to a bloody streetfight. Also, like those things, it’s kind of really dumb (but in a fun way). What am I referring to, you ask? The Expendables 2 trailer.

Honestly, you have to peep this clip to believe it, with its near-comic avalanche of clips featuring cinema’s most muscle-bound and steroid-pumped action heroes, with many returning from the last film, along with a few new faces, including the bearded visage of Chuck Norris (!), along with Jean-Claude van Damme as the film’s villain.

So what did you think? Ridiculous, no? Honestly, the trailer feels like it’s bordering on some kind of online fanfic by combining all of these new and old action stars into one film together, but, that said, it may end up being strangely hypnotizing and watchable, like the previous film, which was simply too silly not to enjoy.

The Expendables 2 will hit theaters in 2012.

‘Universal Soldier’ To Inexplicably Become Weekly TV Series, For No Discernable Reason

Despite the fact that this is a movie franchise based upon a film in which Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren starred as Vietnam-era soldiers who were killed and then turned into cyborgs who punch and kick each other a lot (I know, I know, it sounds like it should be cool, but it isn’t) Universal Soldier is somehow getting a freaking TV show. Go figure.

According to The AV Club (via Deadline):

“Most recently, both Lundgren and Van Damme were due to return for 2012’s Universal Soldier: A New Dimension, its title both a nod to the film being in 3-D, as well as the more nuanced shade of existential ennui the actors would no doubt bring to their characterizations. And even though original Universal Soldier producers Allen Shapiro and Craig Baumgarten are attached to the series—which will be scripted by Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis writer Damian Kindler—it’s not clear whether the show will bear any relationship to the film series beyond its basic premise.”

Can we just pause for a moment and reflect upon the fact that we live in a world in which people would willingly produce a film called Universal Soldier: A New Dimension, which is a 3D film about Van Damme and Lundgren in which they star as a couple of aging Vietnam-era cyborgs who are still trying to kick each other, but this time in 3D? Let’s all sigh over that for a moment.

Jean Claude Van Damme Cast in Joel Silver’s Dragon Eyes

Jean Claude Van Damme is on a roll. First he landed a voice gig in DreamWorks upcoming sequel Kung Fu Panda 2, then he got picked up for a part in James Bobin The Muppets movie, and now Joel Silver has tapped him for a role in his latest martial arts flick, Dragon Eyes. The eighties action star has been on a solid winning streak and we hope it continues.

According to a report from EW, Van Damme has been confirmed to star alongside martial artist Cung Le in the film. He’ll play a shady mentor who once trained Le’s character Ryan. Ryan “has just arrived in a neighborhood blighted by drug crime and official corruption and he’s ready to use his fists and his street smarts to take on the local gangs and the police.”

The film will be directed by John Hyams, who previously directed Van Damme in Universal Solider: Regeneration. Coincidence? We think not! Dragon Eyes will begin shooting at the end of the month. The movie will be produced by Silver and After Dark Films. Who’s excited about seeing Van Damme in the mentor role?

The Muppets: Billy Crystal, Jean Claude Van Damme In, Jane Lynch Out

The Muppets cast continues to grow at an alarming rate with this latest bunch of actors. Over the past week we’ve heard that nine actors have come on board for various supporting roles and now three more have signed on. According to THR, Billy Crystal, Oscar winner Alan Arkin, and Jean Claude Van Damme (yes, him too!) have joined the cast of the film. There’s also been some clarification about who won’t be involved, as confirmed by actress Jane Lynch. Find out who’s staying and who’s going…

Last week, Lynch was said to be joining the film but according to the actress it’s not true. She stated, “I’m not doing the Muppets movie – they haven’t asked me.” Even though a formal offer hasn’t been made, she’s more than willing to spend some time with the puppet folk if they extend an invitation. “I would do it if they asked me.”

On a more positive note, the trades are reporting the trio of Crystal, Arkin, and Van Damme are legit. They’ve all been confirmed to make guest appearances but no character descriptions have been released. We’re assuming they’ll play themselves considering that the movie centers on The Muppets putting on a show to raise money for their movie studio. What’s a fundraiser without random celebrity appearances?

Jean-Claude Van Damme Suffers Heart Attack

Legendary action star Jean-Claude Van Damme has had a set back. According to several reports, the Belgian actor recently suffered a heart attack while on the set of his new movie Weapon. Before you get too worried, Van Damme is alive and well and recuperating as we speak but yesterday his fans and those around him were scared for his life.

When we think of Jean-Claude Van Damme, we think of someone who’s fit, tone, and unstoppable. The actor just turned 50 and has kept up with his famous physique unlike a lot of other 80s action heroes (What happened to you Steven Seagal?). Production on Van Damme’s film was stalled this week due to “unexplained complications,” which we’re assuming was the actor’s health scare.

He suffered what’s being classified as a minor heart attack and was rushed to a local New Orleans hospital where he was shooting. “His wife and mother of two of his children, Gladys Portugues, joined him in New Orleans following the event and it now appears that he will make a full recovery.” His representatives sent an email message to MTV stating that “He is okay.”

Tip: One of our readers, Dan Bloom sent in an email stating that Van Damme’s heart attack was very real. It was mild but it did occur. Can anyone else verify?

Michelle Yeoh, Jean Claude Van Damme Join Kung Fu Panda 2

The cast for DreamWorks’ sequel Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom continues to grow as three new actors have joined film. This past weekend we learned that Gary Oldman signed on to play Lord Shen (a peacock), and today it’s been announced that Michelle Yeoh, Victor Garber, and Jean Claude-Van Damme will join him!

According to a recent press release sent out by DreamWorks, they noted the returning cast as well as the latest additions. The film will star Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross and James Hong and is slated for release on May 27, 2011 (Memorial Day weekend).

Yeoh will bring to life the mystical character of The Soothsayer (a goat), while Van Damme and Garber round out the cast as Master Croc and Master Thundering Rhino. We have to admit, it’s great to see Van Damme get legitimate work that’s not in a straight to DVD capacity. We’ll take this over Universal Solider 8 any day!

The big question is, will Van Damme be able to pull off voice acting when he struggles so much with the old school stuff? He was pretty good in JCVD but now we’ll see him a different format. The cast for this film definitely sounds like one to watch for next year.

Van Damme, Lundgren Reunite For Universal Solder IV in 3D

Jean Claude Van Damme was too good to appear in Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action flick, The Expendables yet he’s content with starring in another sequel in the long running Universal Solider series. The actor along with Dolph Lundgren will reunite for a fourth installment that’s expected to be shot this fall in 3D (face palms).

According to THR, Universal Soldier IV will be a reunion not only for the actors who appeared in both the 1992 original and the 2009 sequel Regeneration, but director John Hyams who worked on the last film will also return. Production is scheduled to begin in October and will be financed by Foresight Unlimited.

After Van Damme gave such an amazing performance in JCVD we’re really surprised that he’s fallen back into old habits. One of the main reasons he said he didn’t want to work with Stallone in The Expendables is because he felt that there was no real story, just action. What story can we possibly explore with this Universal Solider that we haven’t already seen in the previous films?

This is sort of a let down because it contradicts what he’s been spouting over the past few years. And the fact that it’s playing into the whole 3D trend isn’t helping.

Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Eagle Path Trailer

What decade am I in? I feel like I just took a step 20 years into the past. Our favorite Belgian Jean-Claude Van Damme is starring in an upcoming action film entitled, The Eagle Path. I know it sounds deep, and the recently released trailer for it makes sure it looks as melodramatic as possible. Van Damme stars as Frenchy (yeah, I know) a taxi driver who happens to be a former soldier and mercenary. Convenient, eh? One night he picks up a female passenger in his cab who ends up changing his life forever.

I can honestly say besides Van Damme, I don’t recognize any of these actors. Did they really just show someone getting a bicycle thrown at them? Was there a paralyzed guy releasing some serious ammo from a shotgun? This trailer is hilarious, and takes me back to my youth when I was completely obsessed with these types of action movies. I will say that I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t show Van Damme do his signature split kick in mid-air. It always shows up in some form or fashion in all of his movies, you know it’s true.

Jean Claude Van Damme Refuses to be ‘Expendable’

As I’m sure you already know, the Sylvester Stallone action flick The Expendables has become my own personal obsession. The film has an unbelievable cast, attached to a badass eighties action story. With Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren signed on to star, I had one major question, where’s Jean Claude Van Damme? According to FirstShowing, Van Damme was offered a role in the action fest but decided against it. Continue reading to find the reasoning behind his decision.

Van Damme claims that Stallone was just interested in pitching money and action, not story.

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie,” JCVD told Total Film. “But I ask him about the subject, about the story. He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be. [Stallone said:] ‘You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.’ [So I said:] ‘Sly, what is my character?’ So I didn’t do the movie.”

Oh really? He didn’t take the film because there was a lack in character development? On one hand I commend JCVD’s attention to detail with wanting to participate in something meaningful, but come on. His entire career has been based on action roles, no one is expecting him to start reciting Hamlet all of a sudden. Don’t get me wrong Bloodsport is one of my favorite action movies, but he didn’t fully commit to that character, and it was a biopic! The American martial artist Frank Dux portrayed with a Belgian accent. The same thing for his role as Guile in Street Fighter. The All-American hero, once again with a Belgian accent. Yep, I see how dedicated he is to his characters.

Has JCVD gone to his head?

I would have really loved to see Van Damme in this film. If not for the action team up, at least for some ’80′s nostalgia.
