Universal has released a red band trailer for Judd Apatow’s third film, Funny People. The feature stars Adam Sandler as a successful comedian named George Simmons, who’s unfortunately diagnosed with a terminal illness. In the wake of this news, he decides to become a mentor to a young aspiring comedian named, Ira (Seth Rogen). Look, it’s a bunch of “funny people!” Yes, that was a horrible play on words but its the truth. The above photo features one of the many behind the scenes photos I came across on ComingSoon. Funny People is the latest comedy from Judd Apatow, and features Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman. Apatow recently spoke about how it was to direct Sandler, a friend whom he’s known for over 15 years in his latest feature. You can read about the director’s failed attempt at stand up comedy, and view some behind the scenes set photos taken at Runyon Canyon during filming.
Check out the photos and interview after the jump.

I was a little worried about this film but after watching this trailer I think there is hope. Not because of the “I’m dying” plot line, but because they are making Eric Bana and not Adam Sandler the comic relief. I prefer serious Sandler, he’s more funny. It seems like they’re not trying to force humor onto us. They’ve given us a simple pitch, with some subtle humor, that looks like it has a lot of promise. Judd Apatow at his finest. What I love about Apatow’s films is that his trailers are always only 50% of what his films will be because A. He saves the best moments for the movie and B. By staying true to life, punchlines come from long build ups, not catch phrases. So with this solid trailer and an amazing cast including Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, and Jason Schwartzman, it sounds like this is going to be another hit.

Those crazy kids are at it again! By kids I’m referring to Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman, and by crazy I mean hilarious! According to Variety, Hill penned the script for a film called The Adventurer’s Handbook, which has just been acquired by Universal. The film was inspired by the book written by Mick Conefrey. “The Adventurer’s Handbook” is a comedy in which a quartet of pals go on a global adventure, inspired by the hardcore stories of explorers whose tales are chronicled in Conefrey’s book.” Hmm, sounds similar to something else I’ve seen, but I won’t get into that. Check out more on the film after the jump.
