James Gandolfini Reviews, Interviews & More
An Oscar winner, some television and some great catalog titles are the treats of the week. And those who love Star Trek are getting one of the better (though maligned) shows on Blu-ray. All in all a good week for fans.
Not Fade Away is a film about a garage band in the 1960's, the culture clashes they face, and the rocky road of drugs and semi-fame. It has the texture of the autobiographical, which can be something of a turn off. But that it comes from David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, makes it a must see.
An adaptation of the George. V. Higgins' 1974 novel Cogan’s Trade, Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly has the look and feel of a low-key 1970s crime flick, the kind of film Don Siegel would have directed between Dirty Harry and Charley Verrick. ...
How time flies. It has been 5 years since HBO's groundbreaking series The Sopranos went off the air. Created by David Chase, the show generated almost an unprecedented amount of attention and acclaim during its run, instantly imbedding itself into our pop-culture subconscious. However, the more time that passes the easier it is view the series more objectively. One...
Is Tom Hanks Old Yeller in Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close? It seems likely. Honestly, it's surprising that it's taken ten years for Hollywood to make a film that uses (and perhaps exploits) the tragedy of September 11, 2001 to make a movie about death (and perhaps a chance to feel good about being alive). Hanks stars with newcomer Thomas Horn,...
Because HBO and James Gandolfini have teamed up before to help forge the single finest television show, well, ever, the network has wisely seen fit to keep that creative relationship going in the form of Eating With the Enemy: How I Waged Peace With North Korea From My BBQ Shack in Hackensack.
Saoirse Ronan is really starting to turn into an untrustworthy character actress. She played a lying manipulator in Joe Wright's Atonement, she's also the lead in his upcoming assassin film Hanna, and now she's getting locked and loaded for another drama called Violet & Daisy. According to Variety, Ronan and James...
Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini join Diane Lane in HBO Films’ Cinema Verite. The film which was written by David Seltzer shows a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the groundbreaking documentary "An American Family." The film is being directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini and produced by Gavin Polone and Zanne Devine.
A huge batch of photos from Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are have popped up online. The film is based on the Maurice Sendak children's book of the same name, and centers on the adventures of a little boy and a group of wild yet friendly creatures. The film stars Max Records as the main character, and features the voice talents of James Gandolfini, Forest...
We just received more beautiful character posters for Spike Jonze's upcoming masterpieces Where the Wild Things Are. We were just discussing Jonze's choice to use men in suits rather than CGI and how that choice helped in creating the magic and beauty behind the film, and these posters are a perfect example of that. When you look at the close up of...
It seems as if the speculation for a Sopranos movie is starting to get serious. A number of cast members have all stated that a screenplay is in the works! According to Cinemablend, Sopranos star Lorraine Bracco stated, "We've all talked to [series creator] David [Chase] to give him a kick in the booty to get [the screenplay] right." She also...
Look it's more Obama posters! Wait, that's James Gandolfini as General Miller, Tom Hollander as the lost and in need of guidance Development Minister, and Peter Capaldi as one of the foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker for their upcoming political film by Armando Iannucci called In the Loop....
You may have heard the noise surrounding Kevin Smith’s upcoming studio film entitled A Couple of Dick’s. I liked that title but it is no longer with us. Even though it’s an obvious play on words, the film is now being called A Couple of Cops. Boo!!! Smith will direct Bruce Willis and 30 Rock alumni Tracy...
Is this another pointless hostage film? Well, I like hostage films if they're well made, they're worth your time. So, what does this one have going for it? It has the amazing cast of Denzel Washington, John Travolta, and my favorite James Gandolfini, lead by Tony Scott, a man that knows his way around an action film. It was...
