While James Bond fans scored a big one today, fans of the Jack Ryan film franchise (The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears) will have to keep holding their collective breaths—Paramount is putting the spy franchise on the back burner as the new Jack Ryan, Chris Pine, is going to be busy starring as Captain Kirk in the rushed-release of Star Trek 2 next summer.

The last time we checked, Paramount’s new Jack Ryan reboot (tentatively titled) Moscow found its star in Chris Pine and its director in Jack Bender. Now, THR is reporting that screenwriter Anthony Peckham is on board to pen the screenplay. If the name sounds familiar, he’s the same scribe who wrote the Guy Ritchie hit Sherlock Holmes, which starred Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

A while ago we learned that Chris Pine would be the lucky actor to pick up where Ben Affleck left off in the long running Jack Ryan film series. The new movie in the rebooted franchise is entitled Moscow, and word on the street has “Lost” director Jack Bender as one of the potentials to direct it. Apparently, everything JJ Abrams touches really does turn to gold. Pine, Bender, who’s next?

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Paramount’s upcoming reboot of the Tom Clancy based Jack Ryan franchise. The last time we checked, Chris Pine had signed on to play the legendary CIA agent and was poised to bring a younger, hipper Ryan to the masses. Over at Pajiba, they’ve caught wind of some serious plot details and the film’s working title, which will be a lot snazzier than what we’ve seen in the past.

I knew I wasn’t crazy! There has been a steady trend of reverse aging with Jack Ryan, the lead character from Tom Clancy’s popular book series. Paramount has made it known that they plan on revamping the film franchise based off of the novels. The first actor to play Ryan was Alec Baldwin, the last was Ben Affleck, and as of late everyone’s convinced that George Clooney is next in line for the role. Well, guess what? It’s not happening!

This is a little casting rumor that I think could work if proven true. If you grew up during the nineties or are a fan of old school suspense thrillers with heavy political undertones, you’re probably a familiar with the infamous “Jack Ryan” movies. Ryan was the main character featured in a series of novels written by author Tom Clancy. Some of his most well known film adaptations include The Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears. Paramount has been looking to revamp the franchise and sources are stating that Oscar winner George Clooney may be interested in filling the shoes of the well known hero.
