With Thanksgiving on the horizon, all any of us can think about is stuffing our faces with food. Let’s be honest, every year the holiday turns into a gorge fest that doesn’t involve us giving thanks for anything. To soften the blow of your impending weight gain we’ve composed a list of the Top Ten Fat Performances to get you through it all. This list includes a few naturally chubby thespians as well as some fit ones who slipped on the infamous fat suit all in the name of comedy.
When you take the comedic tone of Harold Ramis, the casting connections of Judd Apatow, and the backdrop of Mel Brook’s History of the World you get this weekend’s, Year One. In order to combat the box office champThe Hangoverand the romantic charm of The Proposal, Ramis and company are busting out the big guns. Led by the outlandishJack Blackand typically subdued Michael Cera, Year One attempts to take you back to where it all began one slapstick joke at a time.
Look over there! /Film has just put together a little bundle of set photos from Gulliver’s Travels, which reveal some new casting information for the film.
Catherine Tate who was rumored to be playing the Queen of Lilliput apparently got the role because she’s on set running around in a huge dress. Unless she just liked hanging around sets in full wardrobe, which would be a bit odd. James Corden and Billy Connolly also show up in some of the pictures, which again was a surprise for me. Who knew they were in the film?
I think that is Emily Blunt behind the tree in the photo above, but I’m not sure. Can you tell? Jack Black didn’t appear to be shooting anything, although if you look very closely you will see that he was wondering around the set in the photos below. Jason Segel (who we know is in the film) doesn’t seem to be making an appearance in any of the pictures, unless he’s hiding out somewhere I’m not seeing.
Check out the photo gallery below. Maybe you can find Segel…
I mean, we all knowJack Blackhas it in him to lead a comedy and Michael Cera is good in everything he’s in. Put them in a biblical comedic piece with a supporting cast that includes Paul Rudd and David Cross as Cain and Able and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Isaac, with a screenplay by Harold Ramis (Groundhog Day), Gene Stupnitsky (“The Office”), and Lee Eisenberg (“The Office”), and it’s hard not to fail.
Fight back with humor! Nothing like a good musical to prove a point. It’s amazing how many well known faces they got to show up just to sing in the background. Pretty cool!
This is an absolute must-buy and the best movie of the year to this point.More than that, it’s a celebration of movies in general as its main character, a lovable robot, expresses itself through old Hollywood musicals when his beeps and chirps fail him.Fan of cartoons or not, this is an essential addition to any DVD collection.
Jack Black to star in Gulliver’s Travels. Black, will also be appearing in Judd Apatow-produced comedy The Year One, a sequel to School of Rock and Kung Fu Panda. [Variety]
Horror Director Hideo Hakata takes on psychological thriller, Chatroom which is an adaptation of stage play by Enda Walsh. [Variety]
New Obama/Joker T-Shirt. I think they’re a little late on the Batman election wardrobe. Although I guess you could always represent a third party (although I think the Joker would have a better chance at winning). [/Film]
Gods and Titans Casting News: War of the Gods is looking to cast Henry Cavill as Theseus, legendary king of Athens. Clash of the Titans may cast Sam Worthington as Perseus. Both are in talks. More to come. [Cinematical]
Starring: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin and Dwayne Johnson
One of the better comedies of the summer hits DVD today in all its action and joke-packed glory. This edition boasts “62% More Jokes”, a number so arbitrary it’s probably true. These come in the form of deleted scenes and improvised line alterations from second city alums Arkin and Carrell.
This film also contains the somewhat creepy relationship between Carell and Hathaway, a growing trend in film these days, finding middle-aged men pairing up with 20-something females. One can only assume this was the fantastical plan of several Hollywood execs trying to start a reverse cougar trend. Whatever the case, it casts a pall over any romance using this odd technique. Hathaway is great in the movie, but couldn’t they have found a single comedienne over the age of thirty or are they no longer allowed to appear in films?

Hollywood Reporter states that Jack Black will be playing the role of Matt Damon in a live-action Bourne Indentity spin off by Kung Fu Panda writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. In the film, Black washes up on a dessert Island and somehow believes he was a spy. Could be funny?
Danielle Panabaker (Sky High, Mr. Brooks) will star in Chuck Russell’s upcoming sci-fi action film called Prodigy about an elite prep school. The story is based on Dave Kalstein’s book, about students becoming geniuses with the help of drugs and diets. Sounds like fun! Sounds a bit Cruel Intentions-ish, but I’m sure it’s got it’s own thing going. Afterall, kids and drugs, what’s not to love?
