With year-end worst of lists, it’s rarely fun to pick on films that are dead and buried. Is it really worth rehashing why I Am Number Four or Apollo 18 are bad movies? In five years no one’s going to remember those films, to say nothing of Shark Night or One Day. in fact it’s likely everyone’s forgotten them. What’s much more disappointing and terrible is cinematic good will squandered. And so here is our list of the ten worst films and trends in cinema in 2011:

Over the weekend, Immortals fought its way to the top of the box office. The action film grossed $32 million, which came as a shock to us. We expected Puss In Boots to hold on to the No. 1 spot a little longer. Adam Sandler‘s twin-drag comedy Jack and Jill followed Immortals in second place, earning $26 million. Puss In Boots came in third with 25.5 million, bringing its total to $108.9 million, while Brett Ratner‘s Tower Heist came in fourth, earning $13.2 million. Rounding out the top five was Clint Eastwood‘s biopic J. Edgar, which earned $11.4 million.

Adam Sandler‘s Jack and Jill features twins named after the childhood rhyme. Puss in Boots features those characters from the childhood rhyme. Both are the most likely candidates for the top slot at the box office this weekend, with The Immortals and J. Edgar also hitting theaters. Last weekend saw Boots rebound from bad weather and hold the top spot against Tower Heist – perhaps it will make it a week three. Weak three could also describe the wide releases this weekend.

It fits a lot of bio-pic formulas, with Judi Dench playing his mother, and Armie Hammer playing his possible lover.
