Don’t get me wrong: The King’s Speech is a handsome, well-shot, well-acted, well-written movie. It’s quite good and Colin Firth deserved his statue. But, it’s also the exact kind of movie the Oscars shouldn’t be nominating in the first place, and proves that the Oscars have never been less relevant than they are now.
The winner of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Cinematography is Wally Pfister for Inception. He was obviously nervous during his acceptance speech but still found time to thank the film’s director. Pfister stated that he wouldn’t be on the stage without the incredible vision of his master Christopher Nolan. He also stated that Nolan’s work has inspired him for 12 years.

Inception may finally get its just desserts at this year’s Saturn Awards. The ceremony that honors the best in science fiction, horror, and fantasy has released its nominees for 2011. Christopher Nolan’s Inception leads the way with nine nods including Best Science Fiction Film and Best Director. Fanfiction has been around forever and when YouTube came on the scene it gave writers the ability to add visuals to their stories. Sometimes they have original ideas and characters and sometimes they feature people from movies and TV shows. Recently we discovered an underground fandom for the characters Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Eames (Tom Hardy) from Christopher Nolan’s Inception. In the movie the men are constantly bickering with one another, but in this particular fan-fic that’s just a cover for their true feelings. What we saw as annoyance some people saw as underlying sexual tension!

The holiday season is upon us, and apparently Santa Claus doesn’t know the meaning of the word “recession.” There are no lay-offs at the North Pole (unless you’ve just watched “Family Guy’s” Road to the North Pole episode)! There’s not a whole lot of variety on DVD this week, but what is there is really big. Like $200 Million-plus big. Yes, two of the biggest movies of the summer hit shelves this week, and they couldn’t be more different. We have the mind-bending action film Inception for sci-fi fans and film geeks and Shrek Forever After for their kids. Or maybe you just love both!
There’s also some great documentaries leaping from TV to DVD and the worst DVD release of the week!

What kind of world do we live in when parodies aren’t safe from plagiarism? One of the biggest films of the past summer was Christopher Nolan’s fantasy flick Inception. It was a box office and critical success, which left the whole world confused as to what it was about. Several parody videos popped up following its release including one from College Humor.com, which we posted ourselves. Now here’s where it gets tricky. In last week’s episode of the Comedy Central hit “South Park” they also aired a parody of the film and it used some of the same dialogue that was present in the College Humor version.
Fall is officially in full swing, and that means that all the major movie studios are celebrating the season by releasing their Oscar-bait projects. These are the pictures that feature less “badass action” and more “sensitive, nuanced performances by Philip Seymour Hoffman and Sean Penn.” So, rather than reviewing all of these films individually, we decided to do what any dedicated movie-goer would do: judge them based on their trailers.
Let’s take a look and decide whether or not these films are likely to bag an Academy Award a few months from now…
Christopher Nolan’s Inception was one of the biggest hits of the summer. Prior to its release we didn’t know what it was and after its release we didn’t know what to make of it. Even though many were left confused one thing is for sure, we liked it, we liked it a lot! If you’ve seen the film, you’re aware that it was left open ended…or was it? Co-star Michael Caine recently opened up about that controversial finale and revealed what really happened when it cut to black.
