Identity Thief Reviews, Interviews & More
The first gigantic film of 2013 has arrived, and it's Sam Raimi's Oz: the Great and Powerful. The film has a clear path to over $200 Million, and though it didn't do Alice in Wonderland numbers, it's still a monster. Check out the full results...
It took a little over two months to get there, but it looks like we're going to have the first blockbuster of 2013 with Oz: The Great and Powerful. Sorry Jack the Giant Slayer.
If the film didn't cost $195 Million, the opening of Jack the Giant Slayer would probably be a good reason to celebrate. Unfortunately it cost a lot and will probably never make its money back, unless international audiences go for it. It's a snoozer of a box office weekend, but here are the numbers anyway.
Last year at this time we had John Carter, a big fantasy effort based on classic literature that was deigned a loser and everyone involved got dinged for their efforts. This year we have Jack the Giant Slayer. And where John's director Andrew Stanton is regrouping by directing a sequel to Finding...
It's Oscar weekend, which means that people aren't really going to see the new movies. the best hold of the week went to Silver Linings Playbook, and the two new pictures got topped by a three week old comedy that still fell forty percent.

This weekend, the movie industry felat celebrates itself by having a gala party and giving 20% or less of the people there awards. It's a big weekend for movies, except the ones in theaters.
Because making a film that isn’t a sequel or is based upon an original idea is just too gosh darned hard, Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson has announced that the studio will be churning out ever more Bourne sequels, as well as sequels to the films Identity Thief and Snow White and the Huntsman, and there’s nothing we can...
Well, it's no surprise that A Good Day to Die Hard ended up on top, but was it a quick victory, or signs of new life in a quarter-century old franchise? We'll know next week. And as for Beautiful Creatures this weekend... well, it does not portend well for future young adult fiction. All that and more...
Originally, the first two Die Hard films were set on Christmas (even though both were summer movies). By the third film, there was no set holiday (school was still in session, that much is sure), while the fourth film played up it's Independence Day release date. As A Good Day to Die Hard is coming out for Valentine's Day, we would hope - but...
There's no getting around it. Melissa McCarthy is now a movie star and Identity Thief is a monster hit. Storm or no storm, people turned out in droves for this film. While Side Effects, supposedly Steven Soderbergh's swan song from filmmaking, did modest business.
Black comedies are difficult to pull off but, when done right they turn into instant classics that fans will share with others for years to come. Identity Thief is not one of those films. It delivers is a predictable story with unlikeable characters. By the end you believe that our hero deserved to get his identity stolen.
If it feels like the off season for cinema, you're not wrong. But that doesn't mean there aren't gems in the rough. This week we get the latest/possibly last movie from Steven Soderbergh, but then also Identity Thief. Which should win the weekend.
There are a number of films that have tried to do the Midnight Run/Planes, Trains, and Automobiles thing, and it's a hard balance to strike. That seems to be what Identity Thief is going after, as it pairs Jason Bateman as the hapless straight man who must take Melissa McCarthy across country to clear his name. Now there's a...
