Ice Age 4: Continental Drift To Be Released July 2012

How many blockbusters can 2012 hold? In 2 years some of the biggest sequels and reboots will debut during the packed summer season including Spider-Man, The Avengers, and Batman 3. According to Variety, we can add Ice Age to that list because it’s getting in on the action too. The next installment of the prehistoric franchise will be entitled, Ice Age: Continental Drift.

The film’s release date has been set for July 13, 2012, which places it smack-dab in between Spider-Man (July 3rd) and Batman 3 (July 20th). The Ice Age series has been a money making machine for Fox with its previous installment raking in over $884 million at the worldwide box office. No plot info has been released nor has the returning cast been confirmed but we’re sure all our favorites will be back.

The film’s placement during the 2012 line up does seem a little odd but the movies surrounding it are going to be marketed towards completely different audiences. Anyone can watch Ice Age, it’s a general family film. Spider-Man will be targeting the teenage set (the reboot will center on a young Peter Parker), and Batman 3 is for the more serious comic fans. They all have their niches so maybe Continental Drift can survive amongst these wolves.

P.S. Like its predecessor, Continental Drift will also be in 3D. Don’t act surprised.

Chris Wedge to Direct Leaf Men

Director Chris Wedge, best known for his work on the prehistoric hit Ice Age, is set to direct an adaptation of William Joyce’s illustrated book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. Fox Animation has committed to financing the venture, with Wedge’s Blue Sky Studios producing.

The news comes after a long battle took place over the film between Fox and Pixar. Fox had initially given Wedge their blessing to seek a new home for the film, only to later back off that decision when Disney came very close to striking a deal with the director.

Sources in the animation community who followed Wedge’s near move to Pixar said it would have been unusual to see Wedge spend the next few years making an animated film for a rival seeing how he’s so closely identified with Blue Sky. He was one of the driving forces behind making Fox a family film powerhouse.

The story for Leaf Men focuses on a troop of bugs who try to save their garden home, but in order to do that they have to battle an evil spider queen. Knowing that their too weak for the task they call on the mythical Leaf Men to help them. From that point on animated family fun ensues.

Movie Releases: Public Enemies, Ice Age, I Hate Valentine’s Day

Sadly it looks like Michael Mann’s Public Enemies is not going to top this week’s box office, Ice Age and Transformers are just too powerful. But aside from all the mega-films we have coming out, it seems foreign movies with subtitles are trying to take over. We have the Anne Fontaine’s sex thriller, The Girl From Monaco starring an international list of stars such as Fabrice Luchini, Roschdy Zem and Stephane Audran. Then the story of an obsessed dancer who wants to be John Tavolta in Saturday Night Fever in Pablo Larrain’s Tony Manero. Finally, we have the autobiography of writer/director Agnes Varda in a film titled Beaches of Agnes. Although they will only be released in limited theaters, they are a good example of international actors/directors coming up in America.

The there is I Hate Valentine’s Day. Not only does Nia Vardalos star in the movie, she also directs it. This film re-unites her with her My Big Fat Greek Wedding’s co-star John Corbett. The title itself makes me want to watch it.

Ice Age 3 International Poster – They Look High!

Is it just me, or do they look high in this photo? Normally I prefer International posters because they use more colors and have a certain edge to them that US posters are missing, but in the new Ice Age 3 International poster that just popped up on IESB something doesn’t look right.

I love the Ice Age series (mainly for the squirrel, Scrat forever trying to hide his acorn), but this looks like something you would see on a cereal box. I get that they are trying to get all the characters into the shot, but everything seems too clustered and they look like they’re on something. Maybe the Japanese audience likes them with a little extra sparkle in their eyes, but to me they all just seem like someone slipped some uppers in their drinking water.

Synopsis: After the last film Ice Age: The Meltdown, Scrat is still on the hunt to hold onto his beloved acorn (yay!), while finding a possible romance in a female sabre-toothed squirrel named Scratte. Manny and his friends life begin to chande as Manny and Ellie, are expecting a baby. Diego is fed up with being treated like a house-cat and ponders the notion that he is becoming too laid-back. Sid begins to wish for a family of his own, and so steals some dinosaur eggs which leads to Sid ending up in a strange underground world where his herd must rescue him, and we are introduced to a one-eyed weasel known as Buck who hunts dinosaurs.
