Coming a full four years after the show should have ended (honestly, the show hasn’t been great since season three, and ran out of stories entirely by season four), House is finally coming to a finish at the end of the current season (we’re in the middle of season eight, in case you’re not keeping track). After eight years of desperately trying to find plotlines to match the superb acting skills of Hugh Laurie, and a full four years of limping onward (pardon the pun) simply because the show makes money, the show’s producers have decided to call it quits.

Making films about Santa Claus is difficult business. Besides the fact that he mostly plays to those under ten, the very act of Santa Claus-ing is hard to make cinematic. But the wizards at Aardman animation figured out a way to crack that nut: it’s about Arthur Christmas (voiced by James McAvoy) the younger and goofier son of the current Claus (Jim Broadbent), who loves Christmas more than his diligent but mechanically driven brother Steve (Hugh Laurie). in what feels like a snuck out release, Christmas has real charm and should become a seasonal perennial.

With such a strong season going, we can allow “House” to be a little uneven from time to time. Last night’s episode had some great moments, but overall, it wasn’t as impressive as the past few episodes have been. “House” is winding down a dramatic season that has featured a lot of ups and downs for its various characters, and while this particular episode doesn’t exactly change the game too dramatically, it does end in a change for a character that we didn’t exactly expect. While there is reason to believe that this positive momentum won’t last, it did provide for a solid episode. Read our review to learn more…

After having directed the first two Chronicles of Narnia films, it was unknown what Andrew Adamson would do next. He obviously played with the big toys, and had a number of successful films under his belt (he directed the first two Shrek films), but the response to Prince Caspian was lacking, and the fall off from the first film was intense. He’s circled a number of projects (as is the way now), but it looks as though he’s commited to his next: an adaptation of the book Mister Pip, which will star Hugh Laurie, according to Deadline Hollywood.

This week’s episode of “House” marked the much-awaited return of Olivia Wilde, and we’re very pleased to report that she delivered big and made her comeback especially memorable. While the episode struggled to balance its various stories, one of the plots was impressive enough to keep us hooked, leaving us genuinely moved by the end of the hour. “House” has gone back to its roots. By that, we mean that the good doctor is popping pills like a raver and mistreating his boss and the love of his life in shockingly juvenile ways. Maybe this is what some fans crave, but we’re truthfully a little bored with the act by now. Sadly, it characterized most of the episode. Read our review to see how we felt…

Yeah, we knew this was coming. In a show like “House,” characters can only stay content for so long, but to be fair, that’s kind of why we tune in. We do want these people to make progress, but if there’s no more progress to be made, well, we get a littled bored, don’t we?
This week’s episode assured us that we won’t be bored with this show anytime soon.
